Also, 23-0 edge in points off turnovers (Elon had 12 TOs).

Talking about students, Hofstra needs to have a free T-shirt giveaway. That’s something CofC has done many times over the years. With college students and their wardrobes, just giving out free shirts will get butts in the seats. Even when we had a worse team with Doug Wojcik and Grant’s first year, struggling to fill half of TD Arena, the games when they had free T-shirts always drew huge crowds among the students.Polito wrote:That stat is bananas Stu!
Honestly it sounds crazy, but I'm telling you this area largely still has very little clue just how good and exciting this program is this year - yes, the word is getting out due to the media coverage, but locally HU itself is relying soley on social media and emailing a select group of alumni - that ain't gonna get it done, and shocking they still aren't doing more - I love what they're doing there, but it's a huge mistake and a huge miss.
There should be billboards up and down the highways and parkways - it's really sad. VCU does it in Richmond, why can't HU? They're just choosing not to, and/or not to spend the money to properly promote.
Students there is no excuse, these kids should be ashamed. I am embarrassed for them.
But for the community, HU should've been marketing LI up the wazzoo, I should see so much propaganda that it's nauseating - yet I see nothing. Nothing on the roads, nothing in the publications, nothing on the trains, NOTHING. No one to blame but themselves on that front.
Yeah dude, it was kind of eerie to be honest, the students were so quiet. They have to find a way to get wild on Saturday. There was a free t-shirt giveaway tonight actually, students just left the game early.Hofstra wrote:To hear that we barely drew any students sucks to hear. I wonder what the deal is with that? Maybe this generation just isn't into sports as much? I mean, the team was hyped to the moon over their winter break, its a real shame to hear no one came out. I am sure the players were disappointed to see that. Thankfully the score was not indicative of the turnout.
At least I was right about my prediction - of the spread!!daHUPride wrote:I think we'll win by 20 - spread I am guessing will be 17.The Shadow wrote:On KenPom, as of February 5th, HU #71 and EU #326. I wonder what the odds will be for Thursday evening.
SID ditto and to think that I also met I think for the second time JoJogunne and we all go back into the 70's and the great teams then. I was talking about this game to a friend yesterday who graduated from Manhattan and he said would you take the spread of 18 and Elon? I thought about it and the way the first game went and said maybe but I wouldn't bet against Hofstra. So there r a lot of people out there who predicted a 20 point win but 40 c'mon. I would love to have your crystal balls. I was definitely a cynic going into this one but learned my lesson. I thought the crowd was decent and the Lions den looked kind of full so I ask what would have been an acceptable crowd for a mid week game?? We had over 2,500 people there and like Polito has stated where is the marketing? I'm defintely into the T-shirt giveaway and anything else that will bring people in. IDK if anyone was handed a coupon as you were leaving the game but a student handed me a coupon to get a free ticket for any ticket I buy to the last two games. Maybe that should have happened before the game or had been advertised somewhere? As people are leaving I wonder how many would now go back to the ticket office to purchase tickets?? This seems like a half fast effort to get people to attend the games.HUSID74 wrote:Nothing left to say...great to see this team DOMINATE from start to finish, and to see EVERYONE get a chance to play!
On the negative side, WHAT DO WE HAVE TO DO TO GET PEOPLE TO SHOW UP?????
Disappointing turnout IMO.
Nice to meet triplec today!
I am no marketing expert - so far be it for me to know what works.triplec2195 wrote:SID ditto and to think that I also met I think for the second time JoJogunne and we all go back into the 70's and the great teams then. They have given away shirts at least four or five times this year...Sat we are giving out 2,000 t-shirts, hence it's a sellout. The Thursday night games are a terrible draw locally...too much going on for families I suppose. Not enough local advertising and promotion is the problem.Sctvman wrote:Talking about students, Hofstra needs to have a free T-shirt giveaway. I see kids on campus wearing shirts from 2-3 years previous. Even with the team you guys have this year, with the loss of TV exposure, it has been hard to fill seats around the league. Two seasons ago when CofC had a great team, but finished 2nd to UNCW they only had 3 home games of 4,000+ (TD seats 5,100). Last year they had 7 home games of 4,000+. This year they have 8 already with 3 home games left. A lot of that increase is more student involvement.
Hofstra has 11K students. No reason you can’t get at least 500 or more students at every home game.
Just remember Pride97 who is the major draw here and that's JWF after him I don't think too many people know the players. The team is a winning o/s team but people come to see Justin. Yes an NCAA appearance certainly will help but this is all about recruiting and without the right players how many games can a coach win on his coaching prowess. After next year when Justin, Taylor and Dwyer will have graduated then Pemberton and Buie graduate if we don't recruit well we could regress which puts all the pressure on recruiting this year and next. We have Kante waiting in the wings in reality a freshmen not having played much on the college level and Cramer coming off an acl injury. There's very important work to be done now to keep this team CAA championship competitive.Pride97 wrote:I think the only thing that will get Hofstra the buzz they need to get attendance numbers to rise is a trip to the NCAAs. When that happens (hopefully this year), I think people will start coming when they realize they have a tournament team in their backyard. Until then I don’t think the average fan realizes what good/affordable entertainment is right around the corner. A few successful seasons in a row would help as well. I know we lose JWF after this year, but the future looks bright with Pemba, Buie, Ray and now Coburn for years to come. Hopefully this is the start of what this small group has been yearning for for years!

I believe his mother and probably the family sit right near me I wonder if the mother would go for it. Yeah probably! They yell the entire game definitely a good thing!HUSID74 wrote:Let's do our own TSHIRT GIVEAWAY starting with TARIQ the FREAK!!!!!!
