Game 24 vs. Elon
Game 24 vs. Elon
Hope the team isn't looking past this one like this forum is! Elon gave us all we could handle at their new are a and has played us tough last year.
Hope we come out with firs and start a new streak.

Re: Game 24 vs. Elon
I highly doubt they would look past this one. The biggest reason they had the 16-game streak is because all during that streak, they focused only on what was right in front of them. They are well aware they had to rally just to barely hang on at the final buzzer to win at Elon this year and I'm sure they remember Elon putting up 89 pts and winning in Hempstead by 13 last year. They'll start dealing with W&M on Friday, but I think their minds and their approach will be where it needs to be for Thursday night. Plus, they can get back to 16 straight in a different way with a win on Thursday - 16 straight home wins (including 13 straight this season).HUSID74 wrote:Hope the team isn't looking past this one like this forum is! On KenPom, as of February 5th, HU #71 and EU #326. I wonder what the odds will be for Thursday evening.

Probably about 20.The Shadow wrote:On KenPom, as of February 5th, HU #71 and EU #326. I wonder what the odds will be for Thursday evening.
I don't think anybody is overlooking Elon, just that the W&M game has been getting hyped for awhile, it's retro night, and the Alums are coming back for the game.
Elon is a tough matchup for us, always has been. We have to move the ball better, and contest their 3 point attempts, which there will be many of. I kind of expect a slow start, the students will be back, and there will be energy in the building. I think we pull away in the late first, early second, and show we're still the class of the CAA.

I think we'll win by 20 - spread I am guessing will be 17.The Shadow wrote:On KenPom, as of February 5th, HU #71 and EU #326. I wonder what the odds will be for Thursday evening.

I have no doubt the team will be ready for this game. This is where our three leaders (DB, JWF, EP) will step up and right the ship.

Re: Game 24 vs. Elon
You guys must know something IDK because a 17-20 point spread. That is very high and we're considered to be that much better then Elon? How about 12-15? IDK if we have been favored by 17 or more points all year. Just sayin.
Re: Game 24 vs. Elon
Our biggest spread was by 17 against North Carolina A&T. Our biggest spread in a CAA game was by 13 against Drexel. The Sagarin and its components expect us to win by 17.29 to 18.71, and that's with us being much worse in the Sagarin than the NET, RPI, and KenPom. I predict the line will be under 17.

Re: Game 24 vs. Elon
I’d guess the line will end up around 13. 17 is high for a line.
Re: Game 24 vs. Elon
I wouldn't be surprised if it opened at 15 and fell to 13, opened at 16 and fell to 14, or something like that.HofstraMathew wrote: I’d guess the line will end up around 13. 17 is high for a line.
https://gohofstra.com/news/2019/2/3/men ... -elon.aspx is Hofstra's preview titled "MBB: Hofstra Returns Home To Face Elon."
https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/ ... ame24b.pdf is Hofstra's Game Notes.
JWF could break David Robinson's CAA record double-digit scoring streak. They're tied at 76 games. A 77th game would give JWF tied for the 13th longest streak all-time and break a tie with Wofford senior Fletcher Magee for the 4th longest streak in the 2000s.
Pemberton is 7 points behind Demetrius Dudley and John Mills and 12 points behind Carlos Rivera for 20th in career points. He's 83 points behind Kenny Adeleke. Passing Adeleke would give him the fifth most points for us in the CAA behind Jenkins, Agudio, Stokes, and JWF. Pemberton is 209 behind Rick Apodaca, who played 2 seasons in the America East and 2 in the CAA.
Elon has not written a preview yet.

Re: Game 24 vs. Elon
https://elonphoenix.com/news/2019/2/6/m ... ath=mbball is Elon's preview titled "Elon Begins Northern Swing at Hofstra on Thursday." It says:
"Defensively, the Pride is 2nd in scoring defense (65.7 ppg), 3-point field goal percent defense (.378) and steals (6.7), as well as 3rd in overall field goal percentage defense (.437) and blocked shots (3.1)."
Some of those are wrong. We allow 68.8 points, and Charleston leads allowing 65.7. Our opponents shoot threes .330. .378 is how we shoot.

The Pride are favored by 18 points. Oddsmakers giving Elon no love. If we contain Seibring we should be in good shape.

Re: Game 24 vs. Elon
Hard to believe that we're 18.5 point favorites per Newsday and containing Seibring has been elusive for us. After sweating out that close game away it would be nice to have a laugher here at home. What's the likelihood though tonite that Bill & Mary beat NE?? Now that would be huge for us!!

Re: Game 24 vs. Elon
I'd say we probably want Northeastern to win. I figure in the best case scenario for the final standings we want W&M to be a 6 or 7 seed and Northeastern to be a 2 or 3 seed. This combined with Charleston being a 2 or 3 would allow us to only have to potentially play one of those teams in the finals. Of course I am not looking past any other team but i'd say those three would be our toughest opponents in a CAA tourney game.triplec2195 wrote:Hard to believe that we're 18.5 point favorites per Newsday and containing Seibring has been elusive for us. Re: Game 24 vs. Elon
As of this morning, seeing Hofstra by 17, with an O/U of 147. So Vegas predicting an 82-65 Hofstra win.
Obviously, Vegas didn't see Elon @ Hofstra last year or Hofstra @ Elon this year, but that spread is obviously based on the talent difference and Hofstra being at home.

Re: Game 24 vs. Elon
Yup ESPN line down to 17 from 18.5, typical of a Hofstra game.
