CIT & CBI Selection Thread

Post by Jojogunne »

The CIT tournament is starting to fill up. Participants listed in Google News include Dartmouth, EKU, FGCU (remember "Dunk City" from the NCAA tournament?), NJIT, Oakland, UNH, and the University of South Carolina Upstate:

*****

Have not seen the names of any CBI participants yet:

I'm sure Jeff Hathaway knows all the selection committee members from his tenure as chairman of the NCAA selection committee, and can get us into one of these postseason events if we want to extend our season. If we do play in one of these tournaments, I hope our bench players get some PT. They can use more experience for next year.

I'd imagine that if you are a 20 win team, no matter who you played, you can work your way into one of these tournaments.

CBI and CIT are a complete joke and wish they would be gotten rid of with NIT expanded.

Meh, it's just more basketball. It's a joke if you read too much into it (don't plan a parade around winning it). If you just want the guys to play more games, then there's nothing wrong with it.

play on........we all know winning games in these tournaments doesn't really mean much, but I say its best to let the younger players get as much playing time as possible. I can't see games like this hurting anyone. Take Gustys as an example - there is no doubt the guy played better the more experience he got (i.e. the guy played well in the playoffs), more experience and time on the court with guys that feed him like Green, the better he starts the 2015/2016 season. We all know it would be a shock, but maybe even Walker gets some minutes!

I've got to think that Hathaway is working the phones to pick the best spot for us...is the NIT TOTALLY out of the question? Stranger things have happened. I trust this athletic administration to find the best place for us.....PLAY ON!!!!

With an RPI in the vicinity of 170 and no quality wins, the NIT is out of the question. Heck, we may not even get an invite to the CBI or CIT.

HU current RPI is 173

2014 NIT tourney had 25 teams with RPI <100 and 7 teams between 101 - 172.

2014 CBI tourney had 13 teams with RPI between 100 - 200 and 3 teams between 201 - 240

2014 CIT tourney had 7 teams with RPI <100, 13 teams between 100 - 200, and 12 teams between 201 - 254

Hard to think we could not get an invitation to either CBI or CIT. One thing to consider (not sure how true this is) is that host teams in CBI tourney must cough up $50K. OUCH!

Hofstras endowment about 308 million (I think). To invest in your flagship program that is as jackie Gleason once said 'a meer bag of shells".

I don't think it's a matter of IF...it's a matter of which tournament, who we play and where...just my two cents

Does that $50k get you multiple rounds? Or is that per game?

Here is a "CBI for dummies" reference. I say that laughing because I doubt anyone knows what the CBI is unless they look it up. Anyway, there is a reference to hosting games for $$$$$ in here. I guess $50K might not be alot if you are a major university that will get that back at the gate. Sounds like CBI is for any NCAA team, while CIT is only for mid-majors. So theoretically, you could be playing an ACC or Big 10 team in the CBI, whereas your only looking at mids in the CIT.

Back in the day when Hofstra had football we payed Foxsports which is now SNY 50K per football game that was televised. I once asked President Shuart why pay so much per game. he said you cant buy advetizing at that price when every play you see Hofstra on the football helmet. For three hours you see the word Hofstra on your TV screen. Its well worth the money for your flagship sport.

That can include regular season conference champions who get an NIT automatic bid after not winning their conference tournament and not being in the Top 100 of the RPI.

Fox Sports New York became MSG Plus. SNY never had another name.

50k a drop in the bucket for more PT time, more coverage, more advertising, and prob a positive thing for recruiting when the signing period is around the corner - prospects will have more chances to experience the program

Would very much like to see HU face off against a 'name' program, but will be happy with any continuation of play
