I looked at the list of 30 or so players Newsday mentions. Of these, 20 are going to:

-- Top MLAX programs: Duke, JHU, Loyola, MD, ND, UNC (total of 9)
-- The Ivies or Michigan (total of 7)
-- Service academies (total of 4)

That leaves 7 who are going somewhere else, including Hofstra.

Which of the 20 would have chosen Hofstra over Duke, Yale, Army, Navy, etc.?

For those who can wait a year, another exciting Justin will be coming to Hofstra: Justin Sykes, one of the youngest Canadian box lacrosse players to compete in the 2018 Minto Cup championship series. If anything, we should target more Canadian players. We've had some good ones in the past.

the thread has gotten quite since they won, I guess that does not fit the narrative of some posters who seem to be rooting against a coach rather then for the players and the team.

Actually you might want to look at the other lax thread on the UMASS game.

Back to this thread ....

Congrats to Ryan Tierney on being named to the USILA D1 "team of the week." Ryan had a career-high six goals vs. UMass. He was so good, USILA even featured his picture on their news release:

https://usila.org/news/2019/4/9/mens-la ... ril-8.aspx

Seriously, a nice way to cap a good week for the Dutch.

On to Delaware, a high-scoring team.

LOL oh please Dutchflid, take that drama elsewhere - that you Seth? Ryan? Mrs T? Nice whopping 2nd post. You busted everyone! All here because we want the programs to stink. Foolishness  . Doubt you're even around here long enough to read this.

You want more fire in the lax thread then maybe YOU should post more. This thread has been dead for years because the interest in the flailing program is at an all time low. Don't worry about this board of diehards, go check the stands and take your complaints there...and to the sidelines where it's rooted.

To the actual fans: nice big W against UMass - the bad L's and a W like that is pretty typical of a very young team. I have zero expectations for them this season, just not going to be a strong year, so very nice to see them show out a bit against a very good squad.

Another stinking one goal loss to Drexel and another 4th Quarter meltdown. DU 13 - HU 12. HU had a 3 goal lead starting the 4th. Lots and lots of misques by the Dutch. Tierney's one goal losses have to be near 50 or so at this point. Last I looked he had about a .375 percentage in one goal games.

Knowing Hofstra, we will prolly extend Tierney this week another year or 2.

Yesterday's loss eliminates us from CAA contention so for first time since 1995 Hofstra will have a regular season finale with nothing on the line (every year since we have been alive for at-large or CAA tourney berth). Very, very frustrating, but we lost 18 players from last year and were close in every CAA game except Delaware so hopefully next year with many returners back will be different story.

Shows you how far the program has sunk when making the conference tournament is not even achievable.

If anyone noticed men's lax beat Fairfield last night 11 - 9 to finish 5 - 9. I really hope this program turns around next year.

Very frustrating to have nothing to lay for in this final game, but glad we came out on top to go into the off-season on a positive note. This was first time we ended year with a win since 2002 when we defeated UNC and then four days later were snubbed of an NCAA tourney bid. Last time we finished season with a win knowing that was final game you'd have to go back to 1990 when we beat Princeton to finish year 9-5 (we actually finished ranked 19th but was only 12-time NCAA tourney field then).

Newsday had an article this week about one of our incoming freshmen. Headline reads, "Sam Lutfi continues hot streak, powers Massapequa past Syosset."

https://www.newsday.com/sports/high-sch ... 1.30527840

Lutfi has scored 30 goals this season, including 20 in his last five games on a Massapequa squad loaded with D1 talent.

Stony Brook head coach Jim Nagle was let go today. Is recently fired Navy coach Sowell in line to return to Stony Brook?

Lots of turnover in the coaching ranks. If Hofstra has another down year next year I suspect Tierney's days might be numbered as well, although Hofstra has a much longer rope than most schools with coaches.

After a 9-6 season and a #1 5-1 conference finish. Yeesh.
