Starting this thread a few days early because there is a pregame meet-up at Amity Hall Uptown. This is a short walk from Levien Gym on the Columbia campus. A limited supply of free tickets will be available.

This is not the same old Columbia that is the Ivy League's dorrmat. I beleive they are 6-1 after just crushing Fairfield at Fairfield.
This will be an unexpectly tough game for us.

Columbia, now 7-1 is in a virtual tie with us according to Ken Pom.
We are ranked 133 with a +3.10 rating while Columbia is ranked 134 with the same +3.10.
Columbia will be the favorite Wednesday as they are the home team.
As of now, ESPN's Gamecast gives us only a 37.2 percent chance of winning.

Columbia also currently sitting at 60(!) in the initial NET Rankings this morning. I know they won't stay there, but that means at the moment it's a legit opportunity to pick up a rare quad 1 win Wednesday.

I am an undergraduate alum of Columbia and a Hofstra law graduate. My Hofstra allegiance precedes my Columbia allegiance since as a pre-teen I attended football basketball and lacrosse with my dad who graduated in 1943. With Dad I saw Steve Nisenson play unbelievably well in B’ball.Saw annual thanksgiving football vs CWPost just to show how far back my love for Hofstra and my father go back.
2 memorable b’ball games at Columbia were a last second game winner fro Carlos Rivera and a very tough Desure Buie ACL injury many years later. I have watched Columbia play this year. Not sure their guards are as capable as ours. They are an aggressive rebounding team. New coach this year hired from Florida.

You have really deep Hofstra roots Captain kudos to you for rooting for the right team lol! HUSID said this will be a tough game for us but MAYBE a tougher game for Columbia! If we play the way we have been playing we’ll win this one.

Captain, presume you saw Nisenson play in Calkins. If so, what was that facility like?

To a 10 year old playing CYO basketball in the auditorium that doubled as Sunday Mass Calvin’s did not look shabby but consider my limited perspective

Nisenson was the draw and rarely disappointed.
Scored all those points without the 3. 90+ free throw shooter. Drafted by the Knicks. 160lbs soaking wet.
Any basketball fan would have loved his game.
The center on the team was 6’4. Power forward maybe 6’3” named Mike Pollack. The center was Jim Boatwright.
Mike Tilley was 6’2. Well coached team and fun to watch.
Pre D1 status.

Read an obituary just now about Jim Boatright. Quite an interesting life of service and mentorship he led.
He is perhaps the 1st of a potential super lineup of Thomas Jefferson grads to play ball at Hofstra. Number 2 that I know is Jacquan Carlos and the newest 4 star signee Jahda Swann.

Right now ESPN is showing no line for this game; itis "OFF" wonder if something is up.
They give us a 37.3% chance of winning which is crazy.
I beleive this will be a close game if nobody is hurt, suspended, etc.

It shows Columbia at -1.5 now. Yet ANOTHER Hofstra game in which the spready and the percent chance of winning are WAY off! It's become comical at this point. It's just about every game. :D +1.5 should be about 45% or 47%, not 37%. It should be very good, competitive, entertaining mid-major game, and if Hofstra brings the defense and pressure it brought to Philly, they'll pull it out.

p.s. unrelated, but can't help but notice the nice touch above. Not that there was anything at all wrong with the old font, but I see the site name above is more in line now with the current, new Hofstra athletics branding. I think that's cactus?

Agre Wags it's crazy and way out of whack.
I do agree with you that if Hofstra brings the energy it did vs Penn it will be a good game with us coming out with the win.

Kenpom: Hofstra 133, Columbia 135. Doesn't get much more of a toss-up than that. But Columbia hasn't really beaten anyone yet. Hofstra would easily be their best win, IMO, which also makes me question the similar Kenpom numbers. We know those often need to settle out more as they can often be misleading early in the season. Columbia's record and the Kenpom number look good, but I think Hofstra has been far better tested to this point and should win. Tougher on the road though.

Also, lions vs. Lions tonight!
