CAA MBB Outlook 2025-26

Lindy's 2025-26 College Basketball Annual is out and has a number of predictions for the CAA. Obviously, this outlook was written over the summer, before Victory Onuetu, Jaeden Roberts and Alex Tsynkevich joined us. Otherwise, I don't think we would have ranked 10th. Good to see Cruz Davis on the First Team:

8th place... how the mighty have fallen. But feels fair when you put our offseason, returnees, and NIL budget up against the top of the conference. Hope Victory and the freshman can make an instant impact and maybe we surprise some people

Preseason KenPom rankings are out. Hofstra comes in at 162, which is actually good for 4th best in the CAA behind the expected big 3 of Uncw (120), Charleston (132), and Towson (142)

Better than most pre-season predictions, although most of those were probably before we landed the two bigs.

For those of us that watch other CAA teams OOC games I happen to watch the Towson Liberty game yesterday. Liberty came in at 5-0 and Towson 4-2. Although I didn’t see the entire game I watched the first half and parts of the second half. Liberty looked real good and led a lot of the game but Towson hung around and eventually won I believe 72-69. Towson not only has a deep bench, size, athleticism, rebounding but as always they’re very physical. This will be quite a challenge for us.

Although I didn’t see the entire game I watched the first half and parts of the second half. Liberty looked real good and led a lot of the game but Towson hung around and eventually won I believe 72-69. Towson not only has a deep bench, size, athleticism, rebounding but as always they’re very physical. This will be quite a challenge for us.

Towson has a great test against UCSD, a very good mid-major program (the Tritons were 30-5 last year and nearly took down Michigan in a 5/12 NCAAT). That will be at noon on ESPN2 today in one of the finals (there are different brackets with different finals) of the ESPN Events Invitational (that they've held by different names over the years) at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee.

Was hoping to see Towson against my first alma mater (Bradley, before Hofstra, later), but UCSB held off a late Bradley charge last night. Very interesting matchup between Towson and UCSD if you can catch it less that two hours from now.

Tigers made a good run to get it to 63-55 within the first four minutes of the second half but it got back up to 19 late and USCD won, 87-73.
UCSD was a sizzling 16/25 from 3. Even with new pieces, including a new head coach, UCSD is looking like a potentially very dangerous mid-major in March again. The Tritons are 7-0 and 37-5 over the past two seasons so far.

Seeing Charleston lost Mister Dean (yes that's his name), one of their best incoming transfers to a torn ACL. 2nd CAA team to lose one of their best players for the year already along with Pratt at Northeastern. And Colby Duggan hasn't even played game for Charleston yet either with his own injury

I don’t remember having a freshman playing at the level he is but without a whole lot of competition he’s getting his chance to show out. Just hope he keeps playing at this level. It makes us a whole different team.

Also he is fearless
He is not intimidated by taller players
Some freshmen play like a deer in headlights
He seems calm and either lets the game come to him
Then he can also push the envelope when it calls for him to take over

Cruz and Edmeade are the leaders
Others will settle into their rolls
Once that happen we can be a top 4 team in the CAA
Guys, let's enjoy the ride
It may be a little bit of a roller coaster, but I think overall this team is headed in the right direction

I must say that I am pleasantly surprised with the recent play of Patterson. Following the first few games, I was thinking we had another TJ Gadsden on our hands. Patterson has clearly proven me wrong. Pretty good player to have as your third or even fourth option. Hits some timely three's, will get in the paint for the fall away 10-15 footer, Very Good free throw shooter, good size and length on defense.

Biggie is a good complement to our 2 top scorers.

The CAA started giving Rookie of the Week in 2002-2003, and Edmead is the fifth player to win in at least three of his first four weeks. The previous players to do that were Antoine Agudio in 2004-2005, W&M's Omar Prewitt in 2013-2014 (including sharing it once), Charleston's Reyne Smith (who in 2020-2021 became the only player to win his first four weeks), and Amar'e Marshall in 2022-2023. We had three of those five players.
