Burko had the assist on the perfect set up for Goddard's game-winner.

Polito was our good-luck charm yesterday. When it was 1-0, he texted me that we need a goal. Literally seconds later, I texted him back that we got one and it was 1-1. A couple minutes after that, I was able to text him again that we were ahead.

At 2-2, late in regulation, a little over 20 minutes of real time before Burko fed Goddard to win it, Polito said, "Where's Goddard and Burko? Bring this home!"

So, I feel Polito spoke the win into existence! :D

Polito - change nothing! It's working. We have to text again during next Sunday's game against Furman while I'm at The Palestra for the last day of The Cathedral Classic (let's text about both and get two wins that day!).
The whole attack was set up by the dude who won a 50/50 ball then delivered a perfect pass whilst sitting on his ass, that was a heck of a play

He also saved a goal by heading out a loose ball in front of our net

Portland beat Grand Canyon, 1-0. The Pride will be headed there next for an Elite 8 matchup with the Pilots if they can beat Furman today.

13 teams are currently left, five more to be knocked out on Sunday (let's hope Furman is one of them!):

Hofstra / (16) Furman vs. (8) Portland
Washington / (12) Stanford vs. (4) Maryland

Duke / (14) Akron vs. (13) Bryant / Saint Louis
(7) Georgetown vs. (15) NC State / UNC Greensboro

We lose 5-4 in penalty kicks. What a tough way to have your season end. Great season for this team.

Our men played their hearts out. Fantastic finish in regulation (two goals in about two minutes to send the match into extra time). And before today, two outstanding wins against Syracuse and Vermont (last year's champion and this year's #1 team).

This is as tough as it gets. Absolutely nothing at all to be ashamed of. Just heartbreaking to see them go out like this and to see Nuttall's Hofstra tenure end this way because they were SO close and it makes you wonder just how far they could've gone had they suvived the close PK round. Wish they could keep playing until someone scores in that scenario, even it means taking a few players off the field after a couple of OTs, or whatever could be done to make it more like real soccer instead of simply PKs. Such a bad way to end it, but I get it with soccer, because it could drag on forever without a goal. Still, imagine an NCAAT basketball game ending with a FT shooting contest instead of a bunch of OTs? Would be easier to take had they lost 3-0 but it's also easier to be even more proud of them than we already would've been to lose the way they did.

The ending in regulation was just incredible. Furman takes the lead, then doubles that lead only 3:49 later. But then Goddard scores only :19 after that, and then he scores again, only 1:18 later to tie it?! Wow! Four goals, from a tie, to a two-goal lead for the home team, and then another tie, all within a span of 5:16, after only two combined goals over the first 76:02. Even crazier than that wild Broncos-Commanders OT tonight (for those who saw it).

76:03 Furman GOAL Wilfer Bustamante (Assist by Luke Hutzell and Caleb Johnson) 1 2
79:52 Furman GOAL Diego Hernandez (Assist by Wilfer Bustamante) 1 3
80:11 Hofstra GOAL Laurie Goddard (Assist by Samuel Francou) 2 3
81:19 Hofstra GOAL Laurie Goddard (Assist by Aleksei Armas) 3 3

What a courageous effort by a fantastic team and coach...shame, as you say Wags, that it had to end on Penalty Kicks,
Coach Nuttall and Lauie Goddard will go down in Hofstra history as two ofour greatest!!!
Thanks for all your efforts on behalf of Hofstra.

Incredible comeback and heartbreaking loss.

I have to say though it was pretty cool to be in the palestra watching the basketball game while following the soccer team in the NCAA tournament on the phone. Felt like a big time athletics program for a minute there.

How about considering renaming the Hofstra Soccer Field for Coach Nuttall? There could be a name like, "Captain's Field at Nuttall Stadium." I think that might be an appropriate honor for the 37 seasons of Coach Nuttall.
