Looks like today would've been 30. Their last loss was on my birthday last year, to UMass-Lowell. Then they closed 9-0-1 last year before going 14-0-5 prior to, I have to ask... Hofstra's best win in program history, after beating the defending national champs and 1 seed on its home field?!

But not in soccer, and not the defending champs in the others you mentioned? I would think this is the best moment in men's soccer program history? And one of the best moments in HU Athletics history?

Also men's lacrosse against Johns Hopkins in 2008 and they were also defending national champions.

All that stands between Hofstra and the Final Four now is 16th-seeded Furman and one of the following:
8th-seeded Portland, 9th-seeded San Diego, unseeded Grand Canyon, or unseeded Denver.

Postgame interview with Coach just posted. The man exudes class. Will be some big shoes to fill when this fantastic run ultimately ends, hopefully not for several more games!

The NCAA posted highlights that last 3:30 at https://www.ncaa.com/video/soccer-men/2 ... cond-round

We posted shorter highlights at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiVa7Dl ... wKAYcqIYzv

Coach Nuttall's interview is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_k8JdRlV-g

https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/11/23/m ... inner.aspx is titled "Golden Hour! Goddard Sends Hofstra To Third Round With Overtime Winner." Pablo Hempelmann-Perez scored on his birthday.

https://gohofstra.com/sports/mens-socce ... core/14003 is the box score.

Furman is in Greenville, South Carolina, so we probably do not have to worry about snow. Furman allowed 1 shot on goal in their 1-0 win today, albeit Western Michigan fell to 8-10-4, so Furman beat a team with more losses than wins. Western Michigan got to today by winning four consecutive away games at the top three seeds in the Missouri Valley Tournament and at Clemson in the NCAA Tournament. Sunday's game will start at 1:00 P.M.

https://furmanpaladins.com/news/2025/11 ... of-16.aspx is titled "Furman Blanks Western Michigan In NCAA Second Round, 1-0; Paladins To Host Hofstra In Round Of 16."

Duke defeated 3 seed Princeton 2-1. UNC Greensboro leads 2 seed Virginia 2-1. If Virginia loses, the top three seeds will be out. I wonder when the last time (if it ever happened) that a Men's Basketball Tournament had at least three 1 seeds miss the Sweet Sixteen. Men's Soccer seeds 1 through 4 are equivalent to 1 seeds in tournaments that give the same seed in each region.

Friday December 5 through Monday December 8 will have a lot of soccer with the World Cup 2026 draw to determine what group each team plays in, MLS Cup, the Men's Soccer Quarterfinals, and the Women's College Cup (Final Four). There will also be Football conference championship games, the announcement of the 12 team playoff, and the FCS Playoffs.

Would be awesome to go on a run. ESPN+ coverage was good - will they continue to televise the games?

Yes, by contract they cover all the games until the "College Cup" (FF), which are on one of ESPN's cable networks

This is a great second chance to take the coach out in style. Karma says the Vermont rematch should happen and win that one and get on a roll like Vermont did last year,
But first handle Syracuse tonight.
Part 1 of my karma wish is fulfilled. Great and tenacious win under really tough conditions!
Enlarge Coach Nuthall’s and the program’s legacy by marching on! Very exciting opportunity! Go Dutch!

2 seed Virginia is gone. UNC Greensboro, which advanced on PKs vs. Elon, does the same against Virginia.

3 seed Princeton lost to unseeded Duke.
5 seed SMU lost to unseeded Washington.
6 seed Indiana lost to unseeded Saint Louis.
9 seed San Diego lost to unseeded Grand Canyon.

8 seed Portland tied with Denver at halftime.

It's breaking wide open again, like unseeded Vermont beating 13 seed Marshall in last year's national championship game.

As a 20 year old I would play in shorts in 20 degree weather. I'm sure it's tough for the crowd but once you start moving you don't feel cold. Just have to wear gloves.

Yeah, I was guessing with all the running, it's not so bad for starters in the first half, but I would think it may be tough for subs coming in (literally) cold and also for all players going in for halftime and coming back out for the second half. I would think there may be a high risk for cramping up and pulled hamstrings or calves with those last two scenarios, but I guess they are all used to that and know how to deal with it.

Portland defeated Denver in penalty kicks in a game that ended after Midnight Eastern. One of the top six seeds advanced, and nine of the other ten seeds advanced. If you beat Furman, we play Portland or Grand Canyon.

The Sweet Sixteen is set:

Hofstra / (16) Furman vs. Grand Canyon / (8) Portland
Washington / (12) Stanford vs. (13) Connecticut / (4) Maryland

Duke / (14) Akron vs. (13) Bryant / Saint Louis
(7) Georgetown / (10) High Point vs. (15) NC State / UNC Greensboro

The forecast for Greenville, SC goes from 70 and sunny the day before Thanksgiving to 50 and a 49% chance of rain. Bring it on. I just watched a good movie last week, The Ministry of Ungentlemenly Warfare, about WWII and Operation Postmaster (you should see it if you haven't). In honor of the name of that operation, neither snow (in Burlington), nor rain (perhaps in Greenville), nor sleet (nor anything else) shall keep Hofstra from making its appointed rounds through the NCAA tournament! GO PRIDE!

What an AWESOME GAME. Except for some sound issues early ESPN-Plus is SOOOO much better than FLO.
Goddardcontiues to prove he is one of the best players in all of NCAA soccer and this is a GREAT way for Coach to go out.
Let's get to the FINAL Four!

Burko had the assist on the perfect set up for Goddard's game-winner.

Polito was our good-luck charm yesterday. When it was 1-0, he texted me that we need a goal. Literally seconds later, I texted him back that we got one and it was 1-1. A couple minutes after that, I was able to text him again that we were ahead.

At 2-2, late in regulation, a little over 20 minutes of real time before Burko fed Goddard to win it, Polito said, "Where's Goddard and Burko? Bring this home!"

So, I feel Polito spoke the win into existence! :D

Polito - change nothing! It's working. We have to text again during next Sunday's game against Furman while I'm at The Palestra for the last day of The Cathedral Classic (let's text about both and get two wins that day!).

Let's GOOOOOOOOO!!! We see you fellas, MONSTER win men!! Way to go - knocking off national champ and #1 seed on the road is BIG TIME - in OT makes it all the more glorious! Love this for RN, and want to keep this magic going as long as possible - it's all there for them now, they have a feasible path for continued greatness, keep focused on 1 game at a time.

I got you Wags, let's do it brotha! They answered my calls for sure :D

And yep, soccer in the north makes you tougher - my girls play in the same at 10 and 12 - rain, sleet, snow, wind, heat, you name it - unless it's lightening, your butt is on the pitch - just as it should be! Those were my favorite games to play in HS, love getting down and dirty in bad weather, makes the game wild and brutal for the fans, but super fun as a player.

The challenge in the north is heading south and playing in 95 degrees and high humidity - so the cooler the better at Furman! Let's ride this passionate play going for RN and bring the NY power to SC!
