Women's Soccer 2025

Post by EvanJ »

The season started with a comeback 2-1 win hosting St. Joseph's with the winning goal with 5 seconds left. https://gohofstra.com/sports/womens-soc ... core/13749 is the box score. https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/8/12/wo ... eph-s.aspx is the preview. The recap was not written yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_J2yrOOE50 has 28 seconds of highlights. I will not pay for Flo until the CAA Tournament, which is near when Men's Basketball starts, so I will not watch regular season games.

Edit: https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/8/14/wo ... pener.aspx is titled "Moschitta's Moment; Late Goal Lifts Hofstra Past Saint Joseph's In 2025 Opener." The goal was with 5.6 seconds left, and it is very unusual to see tenths of seconds in soccer. The time of the goal was 89:53, which does not match 5.6 seconds. It looked like the clock said 7 seconds left when the ball crossed the goal line and was moving toward the net. St. Joseph's led for a majority of the game. We had more shots 22 to 2, and more shots on goal 5 to 2. When sports are done in May, I wonder if that will be the latest winning in any sport with a fixed clock for or against us. By "fixed clock," I mean excluding track or any other sport that counts up and stops when somebody finishes.

The next game is Sunday at 1:00 P.M. hosting Quinnipiac. After hosting 5 of 8 nonconference games, we host 4 of 9 CAA games. Our last 3 CAA games are away, including ending at Stony Brook. The CAA Tournament is on October 30, November 2, and November 8. The World Series will end on October 28, 29, 31, or November 1, so the CAA Tournament will not be during a World Series game.

A nice win for this team who seemed to me to dominate the action keeping the pressure on St Joes but meanwhile they get the 1st goal so more about the quality of shots not the quantity. So much of the buzz talk was about Millie Davies 1st team CAA and Manon Lebargy transfer from Middle Tennessee but Pearse and Moschitta get the goals. Huge one from Moschitta who's just a sophomore. Both kids from Long Island.

Wow -- What an exciting way to open our women's soccer season! Two goals on two headers, including the game-winner with just second left.

Here's the recap with video highlights:

Also, congrats to our four players who received preseason recognition:

After a bit of a sluggish first half we played better in the second half and Lebargy shows why she's a scorer although she got lucky on the 2nd goal off the head of a Quinnipiac player. We played without Millie Davies but not sure why she didn't play I'm assuming an injury.

So one of our defenders -- Olivia Pearse -- was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week -- for the second time in her career:

https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/8/18/wo ... -week.aspx

Earlier this month, Midfielder Millie Davies and Defender Gabriella Marte were named to the Preseason All-CAA Team, while Forward Mathilde Braithwaite and Pearse received honorable mention:

Congratulations to all!

After beating Columbia 2-1 another game where the opposing team helped us put a goal in their net we go to Yale and lose in a lopsided game 4-0. I think the score speaks for itself after falling behind 1-0 at the half we somehow give up 3 goals in the second half. I didn't see a presser on this game from Simon so don't know what his take was.

We seem to come out flat vs FDU WHO come in without a win. They quickly take a 1 goal lead and again we're playing from behind. We go down 2-0 before we finally score before the half a goal by Carly-Ann Dziewirz assist by Millie Davies. Then we got the tying goal at the 87.17 mark a goal by Polly Watson. A lot of unsung heroes contributing on this team in the early going of this season. I don't think Simon was very happy the way this game went but definitely happy to get a tie in a game that had a L written all over it.

We got a 2-2 hosting Elon. Elon had shut out their last seven opponents, with six wins and one 0-0. Elon scored 1:03 into the game, and with 1:00 left. Hailey Moschitta scored at 73:10, and Mathilde Braithwaite scored at 85:27, but we could not hold on to win. Elon was picked to win the CAA South Division, and they allowed 1 goal this season before tonight.

https://gohofstra.com/sports/womens-soc ... core/13757 is the box score. The attendance was 236.

Simon in his post presser praised the team coming back from a 1-0 deficit and taking the lead. He expressed his frustrations believing that we should have won this game. TOO much play at the end in the wrong side of the field. We should have been able to kill the clock, a shame!

We played our sixth consecutive game and seventh consecutive game without a win. We hosted Campbell, who entered 2-4-2. We had better statistics including shots 17 to 5 and shots on goal 4 to 2, but nobody scored.

Not to make excuses but they’re playing without their best player Millie Davies who has missed multiple games.

We scored early and got a 1-1 at Towson for our seventh consecutive tie, which is the most we had in a season.

Evan, what is the NCAA record for most consecutive ties for women's soccer team?

For all of women's college soccer in the NCAA Hope college had nine consecutive ties however they were not division one. I believe they were either division two or three.
I find that the NCAA record books are very spotty when it comes to women's sports
A while ago, I tried to look up the record for turnovers in women's basketball at the division one level
They had no such stat that I could find
I did, however, find that the record for men's basketball for turnovers in the game was readily available
From what I understand, it was Manhattans 40 turnovers in one game that is the record

We won 2-0 hosting Northeastern to end our streak at seven ties. The NCAA Record Book does not have the record for consecutive ties, but the record for ties in a season is 10, and the record for 0-0 ties is 6. We have three fewer than the record in both of those.

https://gohofstra.com/sports/womens-soc ... core/13760 is the box score. Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir scored his first goal at 39:11, and Olivia Pearse scored her third goal at 80:00. We had more shots 17 to 13, more shots on goal 5 to 4, and more corner kicks 11 to 4. The attendance was 305. We did not post a recap yet.

We had more shots 11 to 8, and more shots on goal 5 to 1. Drexel saved a penalty kick. The attendance was 87 on Senior Day on a Sunday compared to 305 in our previous home game on a Thursday.
