OF COURSE another Iona kid.
Any idea what his injury was? Seems like this kid would fill the Gadsden role and likely start for us based on that profile. I like his rebounding numbers, esp on offensive glass. And 77% FT should mean there's hopefully a better FG shooter in there than what he showed last yr. Not close to a UNCW/Charleston level move, but still probably our best transfer this cycle to date

Yup, as soon as I saw it, I was wondering - they really don't look too many other places than Iona lately, huh?
Yeah, he did have some good rebounding numbers in the games he played the most minutes, so that seems promising, but small sample.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 8:17 pm I like his rebounding numbers, esp on offensive glass.
Yeah, I was thinking the same on this but he may just be a pretty good foul shooter and not too good from the floor. Hard to say. Actually seeing what his shot looks like (haven't looked up clips yet on him) could provide more insight than the numbers alone. But those are bad floor numbers.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 8:17 pm And 77% FT should mean there's hopefully a better FG shooter in there than what he showed last yr.
On this, I don't think he was hurt (although he may have been). He played in 15 of Iona's first 17 games and then none thereafter. It sounds like it was an NIL holdout, which would be really strange mid-season, especially with only limited numbers to show for his 15 games.
Here's what he did at St. Thomas Aquinas, where he was the ECC (hey, we remember that conference name!) POY, before Iona:

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Before transferring to Iona, Patterson had a nice couple of years at St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC), where he was named the All-Met Division II men’s college basketball Player of the Year for 2023-24:
"A 6-7 sophomore guard-forward from Richmond, Va., Patterson - who also was named the East Coast Conference player of the year, along with selection to the NABC All-America First Team and D2CCA All-America Second Team - led the Spartans (25-6, 14-2 ECC) to the conference tournament championship and into the NCAA Tournament.
"An All-Met Second Team selection in 2023, Patterson this season led STAC with 23.9 points per game (No. 1 ECC, No. 4 in the nation); 743 total points (No. 1 ECC, No. 5 NCAA); 8.5 rebounds (No. 3 ECC, No. 38 Division II); and 57 total steals (No. 1 ECC, No. 40 NCAA). He shot 44.9% overall from the field, 35.9% from 3-point distance and 79.1% at the free throw line.
"Patterson, who has surpassed the 1,000-point plateau in scoring in two seasons and now has 1,174, represents the 11th time a Spartan has been named MBWA Division II men’s player of the year."

Tobin Anderson, Iona's coach for the last two seasons, was STAC's coach from 2013 to 2022. Anderson had his 15 minutes of fame at FDU in 2022-23, when he led the 16th-seeded Knights to a first-round upset of #1 Purdue in the NCAAT. Anderson parlayed that victory into his short-lived gig at Iona, which may explain how Patterson landed in New Rochelle.

If he's the real deal and would become their leading scorer, they could market the team as Harlen's Cob-trotters.stuball888 wrote: ↑Wed May 21, 2025 9:48 am Rumor has it we are looking at a center John J Nance

So I wonder if this kid decided to go on strike and not play a half of the season while on scholarship shouldn't we be major concerned with his CHARACTER?? I know he appears to be a decent get and we seem to be desperate but how far are we willing to go with this apparent insubordinate action??

Well, that's what I saw but it's not a certainty, so we shouldn't jump to questioning his character without knowing the actual circumstances of why he didn't play the second half of the season.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 10:44 am Quote Wags; "On this, I don't think he was hurt (although he may have been). Nothing in his background suggests any character issues.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 10:44 am Quote Wags; "On this, I don't think he was hurt (although he may have been). Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Also, merely sitting out for more NIL money - IF that is even what happened in his case, and it may not be - although, it wouldn't scream loyalty to a program, it's also not a "character issue." It would merely be trying to get paid, just like a few thousands others in the portal have done. And if he is loyal to Hofstra and productive here, none of whatever happened before matters.HUSID74 wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 1:01 pmNothing in his background suggests any character issues.triplec2195 wrote: ↑Thu May 22, 2025 10:44 am Quote Wags; "On this, I don't think he was hurt (although he may have been). Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal
Looks like we've added another somewhat underwhelming 6'4 guard in addition to Patterson, Brandon Morgan out of Western Carolina...

Available roster spots starting to dry up now. Still haven't added a single player who averaged double figures in D1 last yr, or any true bigs

This is where good coaching comes in: building a team that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Morgan played poorly for a terrible team. Will not see many minutes for Hofstra unless he’s miraculously transformed by Speedy’s coaching.
