2024 Women's Soccer

Post by Mikey77 »

It looks like the ladies will be competing for the Ivy League crown this year. Four of them on the schedule.

Picked second in the CAA in the pre-season poll. This is the year we're back in the NCAA tourney and win the conference. https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/8/7/wom ... onors.aspx

We play to a 1-1 tie with Quinnipiac who won the MAAC last year and is predicted to repeat. Our freshman goalie from Norway allowed a goal at the 55.10 mark but Millie Davies would later score on an assist from Thorhildur to tie the game. Hopefully I'll run into Simon and get his thoughts on this game. https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/8/15/wo ... pener.aspx

I was at the game. We were the better team the whole way; Davis's goal came in the 87th minute to salvage the tie. Solid opener for the Dutch

Newsday just came out with its top 100 girls soccer team and surprise! surprise! Hofstra has four signees on the list. They are Jadyn Hsu from Bethpage, Olivia Jungkunst, Kellenberg, Jessica Martin, Deer Park. Another top 100 player, Grace Varlay, signed with the Pride's lacrosse program.
Pretty good haul if you ask me!

We started CAA games by winning 2-1 hosting Charleston, who entered 7-1-1. Charleston had better statistics including shots on goal 8 to 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPgzO0-kyh0 has highlights.

That's a good win for us! Our two soccer programs are amazing! Maybe we can sprinkle a little of that pixie dust on some of our other programs.

So we take a step back losing over the weekend to Delaware picked 9th in the pre-season poll. I can't believe that Simon is the least bit happy about this game getting out shot by Delaware and losing 2-1. Delaware came in 2-4-2. Not sure what went wrong but we continue to play two goalies every game with Sullivan a senior who saw action last year playing the first half and Danielsen playing the second. Danielsen is a freshman from Norway. Apparently there's no clear choice between the two but the goalie play has impacted us so far this year.

So we tie yesterday with Drexel 1-1 and had to come from behind to do so. A goal by Petursdottir tied the score. Drexel picked 7th was no easy opponent for us. They're now 3-5-3 and 1-1-2 in the CAA. I've said it before and I believe Simon would agree that our goaltending is a work in progress. It has kept us from winning in some games.

Looks like scoring is more of an issue...only giving up one goal is pretty good!

Actually both an issue note that the freshman started in goal and played the entire game against Stony Brook that ended in a tie. We scored first they tied it before half time. I spoke to Simon the other day and said his team needs to play tougher. They have some injuries and this has hurt this team recently. The goal by Millie Davies against S.B. shows just how good a player she's. It looked like a rocket coming off her foot.

We beat N.E. yesterday 2-1 on goals by Brathwaite and Thorhallsdottir. Northeastern came in to this game winless so we needed this win on the road. https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/10/10/w ... stern.aspx

After losing to Elon who’s in 1st place last week 2-1 we beat W&M 2-0 on two goals by Millie Davies who coach Riddiough believes is his best player. When you see the power of her shots it’s no wonder and also an assist machine. She gets CAA offensive player of the week. We’re back in the playoffs and have one more regular season game vs Monmouth on Thursday. Another strong season by Simon.

We lose to Monmouth 3-2 we get goals from Millie Davies potential POTY and Johnson a freshman. Hofstra playing without Pearse has hurt them but Johnson filling in gets her first goal. Coach wants this team to be tougher and felt they gave up goals on mistakes that have to be resolved. Hopefully we can win a couple of games and get into the championship game possibly against Elon.

We beat Delaware today 1-0 on an unassisted goal from Millie Davies. She's a force to be reckoned with now that she's healthy. Go Pride!!

The goal was 2:40 into overtime. Unlike professional soccer, overtime ends when a goal is scored. We had more shots on goal 5 to 3. Both teams shot off the crossbar. We play at 1 seed Monmouth. Today's other game was at Stony Brook, and Elon defeated Charleston 2-1 with Charleston having more shots 20 to 9. 3 seed Elon plays at 2 seed Stony Brook. Both Semifinals are on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. Since 6 seed Charleston lost, even if we win, we cannot be the best remaining seed to host the Final. If Monmouth beats us, they host the Final. If we beat Monmouth, we go to Stony Brook or Elon. It is Monmouth's third season in the CAA, and all three times we played them in the CAA Tournament.
