That game was HORRIFIC.. I couldn't even bring myself to post or read the boards last night..

Only so much Juan'ya and Rok can do for this team. Rok's free throw shooting wasn't good last night, but at the same time, he didnt touch the ball much offensively in the second half to get much of a rhythm.

I dont understand why up 14-20 points Walker and JWF didnt get more meaningful minutes.. These guys are clearly going to have to play a lot more then they are playing now, down the stretch. While leading 38-18, I thought the game was a laugher and it was over, I said to myself and those around me that JAM needs to play these people in real game minutes, not just garbage time.. The 2 of them (Walker, and Foreman) played well enough to earn more minutes at that point. We could have saved Green/Rok for late in game if for whatever reason, Hofstra decided to pull a friggen Hofstra like last night night.. and vs. Elon.. and countless others..

Bernardi.. Holy hell.. This guy is lost on the court. Liability in every single facet of the game.. Even at the line late in the game last night, he missed a FT. Defensively Ive seen better movement from Christopher Reeves post accident.. On the driving layup, to give UNCW their first lead late, he totally went to guard a guy outside the 3 line, rather than guarding the ball handler who was driving the hoop with 2 on the shot clock.. He is clueless.. The kid needs to ride the pine a little bit.. It's not like I want him to not play anymore, but I think others are earning minutes more than he is right now..

I agree with Polito.. This game wasn't close, we lost a BAD game.. I also think that is the season right there.. Cant win at home up 20, we won't win in Baltimore over the course of 3 days..

Sucks

does anyone know of a support group for disappointed HU BB fans. ;)

After yesterdays disaster the bar of expectations for this team has been greatly lowered for me. I'm not expecting many more wins and I'm definitely not expecting any CAA title. In a way it lowers the stress of watching these games when you are not expecting great things to happen.
There is always next season.

It's really not fair to pin this loss on solely on Bernardi. Did he have a bad game? Yeah. Is he cold right now? Yeah. But the fact of the matter is if Joe makes any number of very basic coaching adjustments, that game is a win every time. I have a hard time blaming a student-athlete who by all accounts works as hard as he can. I understand we're all frustrated but seriously, reread what some of you guys are saying about an amateur athlete at a mid-major university and it's just malicious. Put this one on the coaches: they get paid to win and make smart decisions and last night that did not happen.

Richs--my only response is at least it's almost softball season, so we can at least see some spring team succeed. Also don't sleep on women's lax. That's as close to a support group as you're gonna get lol. I swear we're at the wrong end of more heartbreakers (in a number of sports) than any school I've ever heard of outside of maybe NC State. Must be something in the Hempstead air.

Its been a full 24 hrs now, and I still can't get over the colossal failure. I think the blame falls squarely on JM shoulders. yes we can blame, FT shooting, we can blame refs, we can say if this guy or that guy hit this or that shot.........bottom line is that coaching decisions carried the day. I see five problem areas:

Use of bench to give breathers to starters
Use of bench to give JWF even playing time with BB
No adjustments to being under full court pressure all game long
Poor use of time outs
Taking RG totally out of the offense - absolutely horrendous! :?: :?

The first was an issue this game, but has been an issue all season. All the others are more specific to this game.
I'm happy JM is at HU, he has the program going in the right direction, recruiting higher quality players is happening (although will get tougher if we cant get into NCAA or NIT), and I believe is really trying his best. :) That being said, I truly disagree with his overall approach to team depth and PT.....and he was clearly outcoached last night :(

This was supposed to be our year and it can still be but I dont have confidence in this team or coaches. I am afraid that next year we will go back to team we were three years ago unless we name some really outstanding recruits.

Wow I can't believe what front runners we all are... we loose a game, albeit one we should have won and the sky is falling! Come on, we are in the hunt for first place and a bid in the big dance... all our games are winnable and I expect us to come out tomorrow with a chap on our shoulder and win the game... then voilà! We are right where we should be.... Come on guys ENJOY THE RIDE....THIS SURE BEATS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO!

Bobe13, I actually think we have a chance to be as good next year as we were this year, barring guys transferring out. Call me crazy but

Guards
Powers, Buie, JWF, Bernardi

Wings
Robinson, Pemberton

Bigs
Gustys, Walker, Sabety

Plus whatever other recruits or transfers we can bring in has some potential

Don't you know that's always the way it goes here?

Every HU recruit lands is "the best ever" before he ever plays a minute in college. Every loss in a big game like the one against UNCW on Thursday is "the worst loss ever."

Plus, it really doesn't matter much if you're the one seed, the two, the three. The three seed beat the one seed in the title game last year.

In fairness about the reaction, I think it wasn't so much the loss, but the WAY they lost, up 20 and being unable to shut the door while not being able to hit much of anything from the floor for the whole second half.

There's still plenty of time to improve as a team though, and that's what matter more than the seed, as much as it would be nice to claim a first CAA regular season title for the school. AND HU can STILL get the one seed anyway, as there's still time for that.

Had HU lost at NU and JMU, but beaten JMU and UNCW at home, and started 9-3, no one would have said a word. So, win at JMU and it's the same thing.

While the JMU and especially the UNCW home losses were disappointing, I think people are forgetting that this team is 4-1 on the road in the CAA. So there should still be a lot of confidence this team can recover and get the job done. Until we see otherwise, this year's team has at least to this point in the season, done the job on the road better than any other HU team in a long time.

Very tough, but winnable game on Sunday. Love that it's on TV and leads into the Super Bowl. Makes it a fun day. A win, and HU is tied for second with W&M, one game behind UNCW, and JMU slips to two games behind W&M and HU, three games behind UNCW. A loss, and HU is in a three-way tie for 3rd, with JMU and Towson, a game out of second and two games out of first.

That's what fans do. Nothing wrong with being upset after blowing a 20 point lead in a game for first place. Nothing wrong with being excited to land a big man from Oak Hill or to steal a 3-star recruit from William & Mary either.

Everyone who posts on this board is passionate for HU athletics and wants to see them do well. In all honesty, HU could use alot more fans, students and alumni like the ones who post here.

Exactly right Dooku25 - I go to almost every game - have been a season ticket holder for almost 15 years - I am an alum - I am a fan - occasionally to reactionary at times (like after the recent loss vs UNCW) - but also always loyal and patient at other times (like the years after the i-pod capers) - this gives us all a forum to express our thoughts but most of all shows our passion - I love our small group and the opinions, recruiting scoops - all of the things that a fan(atics) do

my only regret is when we, myself included, sometimes go a bit to far and bash a player - a kid that might not even be 20 - who is a student athlete and not a pro - that is something I occasionally regret - but I don't apologize for being one of a few people that support this team through thick and thin and sometimes get to overzealous in my passion of this team

That describes about 80% of us on this board. Lets face it we all bleed blue and gold on this board.

Very good last couple of posts here. Too add to that, I think the fact that we are so dedicated to the school and the teams is why it's so frustrating when the team doesn't play up to their capabilities. We all want them to do well, and we know what they can do, so it's frustrating and tough to watch when they don't perform as they should

Damn straight Dooku, without us there be not a soul in that friggin arena

Look, we're passionate - no apologies - we have expectations - also no apologies

This was a HUGE game and an even bigger loss - that is a fact - not having any excuses here folks, and it sure as hell ain't the fans 'fault' for being sick and tired of the constant unmet expectations, the complete choking in big games, esp, at home

And lets get this straight, most regulars around here have been following loyally through all the ups and MANY downs over the AT LEAST the last 15+ yrs - ain't no front running around here - but there absolutely is a patience level that is maxed out

NO EXCUSES ANYMORE - I'm totally sick of it. I want the results that they hype up and set the expectations for - I don't give a crap how its done, just get it freakin done.
