Could that be Colin Curtin? I haven't heard him leaving so figuring he might stay.ProudofPride wrote:2 assistant job postings are up. I wonder if that means we have 1 assistant line up, but not ready to be announced.

Probably something to legality of needing to publicly post open positions at a university - my guess.
Re: So who will Speedy add to his staff
I applied I'll see if I get any consideration. No one works the refs like me.

Re: So who will Speedy add to his staff
That is pretty funny to see lol - never really looked at these jobs being listed like that, as they have largely / traditionally been so much about referrals (good ol boy in a good way).
But I do think there are more requirements in today's world when it comes to 'fairness', so this may be that. I hope it's just that lol.
My biggest concern is this already looks to be yet another area where HU behind the 8 ball. This should not be a long process. It can't be - this is a crucial time right now. Part of Speedy's interview process SHOULD have been to supply his plan around building a staff - potential candidates, skill sets desired, potential lane / division of responsibilities. It is common place today for all roles to require assignments during the process in order to assess capability / expertise fit. So this should've been ready to action from the get go. And it may have been, no clue, but so far all I keep hearing from Speedy is he needs to build his staff. Yeah, we know lol. What progress is being made? Let's GO
Speedy has a ridiculous network, this should be a fast moving train. CofC is done. Granted Kelsey brought in his entire staff, so clearly much easier than building from scratch, but the point is HU needs to put some fire under their ass. Recruiting is in full swing, Speedy can't do it all himself, and he's no post recruiter. Get the staff set like yesterday.
And I know I'm being pushy, I know this is Speedy's focus along with recruiting, so not saying he isn't doing this, but again a lot of the leg work should've already been done. It doesn't feel like it was. This should not be just starting. And I really hope it isn't and has been in play behind the scenes since it was verbally approved that Speedy would be the selection. So far the south is outpacing the north.
C'mon, let's get NY on this process please!

You must post the position by law...it’s a joke. I hear Speedy looking at many really strong candidates.
Excited for the future!

Re: So who will Speedy add to his staff
I mean that's obviously great to hear, but who??
It's been total CRICKETS. No scoops, no juice, no smoke. Where are we in the process? Who has Speedy even spoken to? Is anyone being interviewed yet?
We're all excited about the possibility, but we need to see some movement here, all the potential in the world is going to lose it's shine quickly now, a full week of zero buzz... I love the press and free marketing, it's awesome, so no knock at all on it, but I don't need to see anymore Speedy interviews with xyz NBA outlet, I need to see a staff. Not even 1 confirmed hire yet is a bit ridiculous quite frankly.
As usual this is taking way too long. Time is of the essence, this program has major recruiting concerns, and they are getting torched by programs already pounding the pavement. I know Speedy is doing his thing, but he's 1 guy. They need to move their asses. No reason we shouldn't at least see some smoke from efforts. All this CIA level clandestine BS from HU gets old.
IMO, and people may or may not agree, HU needs to learn how to better ENGAGE & EXCITE THE FANBASE - where is the staff???

Agree, nothing on assistants and nothing on new players...St John's just signed something like five transfers this week!Polito wrote:I mean that's obviously great to hear, but who??

Re: So who will Speedy add to his staff
SBO signed two this week and also had two trasnsfers. One of SBUs players played in the pro league but did not accept money. So now its ok but several years ago our Aussie player just signed an application form and lost 1 and a half years of eligibility. This is Hofstras SOP with letting out very little info on their recruiting and hires. Just be patient we are told.
Re: So who will Speedy add to his staff
Some interesting stuff from HoopDirt https://hoopdirt.com/daily-dirt-4-16-21/:
This is what a REAL national search looks like at a mid-major that has an admin with a strategy - not to mention allowing actual buzz, excitement, and communication w/out acting like the secret government agency:
"I have heard that Collegiate Sports Associates has the UNC Greensboro search. This group, led by Todd Turner, has former South Carolina / Wake Forest head coach Dave Odom, and former Virginia AD Craig Littlepage on staff as advisors / consultants. So far this off-season, CSA has helped with searches at Marquette (Shaka Smart), College of Charleston (Pat Kelsey), Austin Peay (Nate James), and Western Carolina (Justin Gray). VERY early indications are that UNCG prefers a candidate who has been a head coach. More on this one as it develops."
Think HU did that? lol But notice that CofC did and they crushed a killer hire (with a full staff) in like half the time. HU, and we fans, got very very lucky Speedy was even here for this unprepared and admin to literally default on. And to be clear, I've warmed up mightily about Speedy, pretty excited about the possibilities, this is more a note on this admin that continues to be questionable IMO.
In terms of staff, how about this seasoned gentlemen who just became available??
"Kevin Sutton is out as an assistant at URI. The veteran assistant had been on the Rams staff for the past three seasons, and has also had stops at Pitt, Georgetown, George Washington, James Madison and Old Dominion."
Hasn't been a D1 HC yet, but was at some of the top preps in the nation, and has some great programs under his assistant belt. Guy has some serious credentials including Nike, USA basketball, and has strong east coast and VA ties. And he was making less than $200k/year. This feels like a definite to interview Speedy.

We went that route with the Tim Welsh hire and the Jeff Hathaway hire bringing in a search firm...like everything else sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't.Polito wrote:Some interesting stuff from HoopDirt https://hoopdirt.com/daily-dirt-4-16-21/:

I would have thought that during the HC interview process the finalists would be asked about their thoughts on their staff and some names would be discussed...worried that this is taking alot of time while transfers are being gobbled up...

Hard to believe that during the interview that - names of potential staffing additions were not discussed and lined up - even after that I'd thought that Speedy's connections would bring some fresh blood in/ and with JAM still helping guide the program there'd been some solid experienced connections brought to the table by JAM. I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what is taking so long - i know what we will be told once the hires are made "we had some many great interested candidates"..."we wanted to take our time"..."we feel we got the best"...all that might be true - but smells like lack of commitment (our part and/or theirs).
And that would suck if the deep pool of transfers isn't utilized because we were understaffed or late to the party.
Re: So who will Speedy add to his staff
Ok we're all anxious on these boards but DID just land a Three-Star recruit from a Power 5 conference and word is that assistant coaches will be named soon.
It just takes EXTREME PATIENCE to be a Hofstra fan...LOL

Re: So who will Speedy add to his staff
Haha, you got that right HUSID
if it pays off I'll deal, but if they roll out some chintzy staff not gonna be cool after waiting this long. Make us wait, you better impress.
Re: So who will Speedy add to his staff
We - super-fans want to be "in-on-the-know" - and your right HUSID80 HU does not operate that way - if anything they are consistent.HUSID80 wrote:Ok we're all anxious on these boards but DID just land a Three-Star recruit from a Power 5 conference and word is that assistant coaches will be named soon.

The very secretive protocol - often leaves me guessing - but over the past few years they have done well doing it their way - and our "extreme patience" has paid off more often then not.
Thanks for reminding us what it takes to be a HU fan - LOL!

As long as they have the staff in place by June and get that other big man we should be ok
