I will be pleasantly surprised if we get Harvey.
In addition to a full court press on his twitter account from UNCW fans, I see that a shooting guard from Southern Miss is transferring out as of today...mere coincidence?
Let's see

Yes I'm with you here Captain I don't see this happening honestly can't see how it could happen without a scholarship to give as far as anybody knows. I'm perplexed how we could even be in the running. Per ESPN looking at N Carolina players graduating in 2020 Belton is ranked #11 a three star recruit and there's no sign of this kid in the top 17 just sayin and the same was true for Burgess last year. I'm not sure what his ranking actually was. I believe the stock of this kid Harvey rose this year as he upped his play. Your point about a kid transferring out at S Miss. could very well be the writing on the wall good call.

BTW just an fyi the kid that just transferred from S Miss.was a freshman getting 6 minutes a game and on 4/4 S Miss. signed another SG from New Orleans. This may or may not be a factor.

I tend to agree here in terms of others feeling more likely - I could really see him staying 'home' in-state at the W. Seems like a NC kid through and through.
Only way S. Miss gets him is if he wants to be w/Belton... who knows, maybe that's the plan and why he already committed there? Kids, just never know lol

I can still see him coming this way due to HU's long-term commitment to his recruiting, and the quality / success of the program the last few years - HU is a winning place, and now, not a promise of becoming one in the future like others - in the top 4 for a reason of course.

Again, zero concern about space.

He's not a ready-made star, but he does have tremendous upside. He's been a good player for years, but really starred this season on a team with 2 NC State commits (a 4 and high 3). Has good size, and a skill set foundation. I think he's in the top 25 in the state personally. I wouldn't say he's a program-changer, but I see him as perhaps a Pemba type, so 'could' be something in time.

If he heads to SM, even JMU, fine. I really just don't want to see any W resurgence. At all. But there is also the chance that HU is in his group, but not pursuing heavily at this time - this happens a lot as well, hard to tell who a school is really putting the full court press on sometimes. And the kids love the hype and attention, so that muddles things even further lol.

Here's someone we should go after; 6-10 North Carolina backup big man Brandon Hoffman just entered the portal. He has one year left, played in 70 games for NC.

Love to see a frontcourt of Kante and Hoffman next year!

So here's the question(s) I'll ask just like a lot of kids who don't get playing time playing for a P5 school would Huffman want to play for a team behind someone which is what he has done his entire college career? It's a stretch but assuming we could get him would he be an upgrade of what we already have considering Kante is playing around 30 minutes a game? Schutte has been adequate and I know this kid has an impressive resume out of H.S. BUT WHERE WOULD HE FIT IN ON THIS TEAM? You would think he could get a lot of minutes on a team who doesn't have any post player or an inexperienced post player. This kid is huge and of course who wouldn't want to see him backing up Kante but don't think this is realistic but I'll dream also.

I know its impossible to predict injuries, but consider where we will be next year of Kante gets injured or has to sit some games? Yikes!

Having a 6ft10 backup will allow kante to be more aggressive on defense. He will not have to play olay defense in the first half just to stay out of foul trouble. Its only for one year.

Why can't they both play together??? I know Joe doesn't like to go too big but this kid could be a game changer for us...

We have about 7 years of stats on Joe's style and approach. We've never played two 5's together, even with Hunter and Rokas, which would have been our best bet. I don't have personal/inside knowledge, but everything points to the idea that Joe is committed to playing some version of a "4 out" offense with a PF who can stretch the floor to some extent.

Based on this, if we ever grabbed another 5, one would assume it would have to be a HS senior who would develop behind Schutte and Kante and not be minutes hungry.

It seems like we have one more opening-- I'd love a more experienced stretch 4, ideally a grad transfer (especially if Trueheart is the one transferring).

That's the first time I heard Truehearts named mentioned as the possible transfer of course anything is possible and HH is more my choice. Just a correction HU87 I know that we played both Rokas and Sabety at the same time against W&M I distinctly remember the game. We were getting killed between Pierce and Knight if my memory serves me well. It was a home game. It failed miserably because Sabety couldn't guard Knight the way I remember it or couldn't guard Pierce. IDK if that was the only time might have been someone like Evan could be a better source for this info. Cards makes a good point about injuries but that can be said for all our starters since they play most of the minutes. Replay this past season if either Buie or Pemberton gets hurt how does that play out. In this hypothetical scenario how many minutes do we/can we give this kid Huffman if we got him on board??

No reason Joe can't play both at the same time but will he? You are probably the closest to Joe of anyone that posts on these boards. What are your thoughts? Do you think he would play Kante as a 4 if he got a legitimate center?

Now just before the Harvey announcement another Southern Miss guard, this one a key starter, enters the transfer portal.

Harvey is going to UNCW.
Hopefully he's not the next Riller who chose a rival over us.

Ugh. Last place I want any talent to go lol. But it's gonna happen so, is what it is - HU recruits at the top of the league thankfully.

That new W staff still has to prove it can coach, but they are recruiting the state really well right out of the gate. Putting some nice pieces in place, hope JM is up to the task. This Siddle guy is young, hungry, moving aggressively, and ready to make a mark. And they just made a bit of a statement 'taking one' from us.

And don't forget they picked up 4 star transfer PF Ian Steere from St Johns

Yeah maybe they can turn it around at UNCW but right now it's our time and hopefully we can compete for the championship here year in and year out. Our recruiting seems to be indicative of that.

Oh it's not a question of maybe. The W will be back, it's just a matter of time. If you look back at my posts when they hired McGrath, it was a very bearish take... and it was correct. This new staff they have is not that one - they bring a much different flavor and my bet this time is bullish, they are likely to turn them around in 2-3 yrs.

So HU needs to strike hard while they're on top, and repeat. I do think HU is in great position overall - this staff has earned the trust and respect that they will be in the top group nearly every year - super place to be. They recruit really really well for this league, and I think they are finally evolving as a staff - guys like Farrelly are coming into their own, and JM has made significant improvement in his approach. No staff is perfect, and I think JM gets stuck on proving things for ego that he's 'right', but the program is in great shape honestly, and a legit threat to win nearly every single season.

This league is going to be a battle between two stark methods: The JM method of seasoned experience, doing things the 'right' way, staying consistent and forging ahead as such at all costs until it works.

VS

The youth movement of programs like UNCW and CofC who will usually go with young studs who are on the start of their rise, creating excitement, splash, and recruiting bumps. They will win and thankfully will then move on.

Both work, but JM's gonna have to maintain high energy and effort to compete with the above. He can and is... question is for how long.
