Certainly need a big - I am guess that being a immediately eligible transfer
If Knox comes you use it - or another good High Schooler - that will grow into the program.
If not - bank the last schoolie - and see if someone changes his mind about committing else where; a mid season transfer or someone that falls through the cracks. Just don't use and it and burn it use all the available schoolies.
But a big that can play now is essential.

No disrespect to Buie, at all. But love having a PG with his size.
Agree, but only if he plays defense like Buie.
Great that we have Buie for another year. He can learn quite a bit from him -

So as I look at some of our recruits per V/C Tommy Bruner from South Carolina according to 247 is showing his interest WARM for us. This is what it says about him; Tommy Bruner is a 6-2, 170-pound Shooting Guard from Columbia, SC. Bruner has a 247Sports rating of 86, making him a 3-star prospect. He is making a visit to us on 4/18. I wonder now if we are recruiting him as a SG/CG not as a PG?? Is it possible that he could be the heir apparent to JWF in the future?? I also wonder what the status of Chereef Knox of Philadelphia is. We have heard that Joe was recruiting him with a passion. I know we need a Jacquil Taylor type 5 but we only have a few scholarships open. Could someone be leaving or about to lose their scholarship??? We may find these things out soon.

We must see Bruner as a combo guard. The 2 will be Jalen Ray's spot next year...Bruner can back him up...If we get Knox great, still see us looking for a grad big ala Jacquil.

I think Bruner would bring flexibility and depth at 2 positions. We are losing a fine ball handler in JWF. So if Desure or Burgess gets hurt, a Bruner would be essential. I don't see Jalen Ray as a viable option at the point, I like him in his current role.
I am no expert and I love a lot of what Coburn brings but he is not a great ball handler right now. Also I think the book on Eli is he really only goes right...hence the abundance of offensive fouls on him, defenses know where he wants to go and beat him to his spot too often. I think Eli should do a lot of developing his left hand to expand his game for a great senior year and possible pro career. I hope Bruner signs!

After watching some video on Bruner I'm getting really excited to see this kid come here. He plays with a ton of swagger can dribble, shoot, rebound and dish a real complete player. https://youtu.be/3JevWz4ev60

Like Captain said Bruner would give us some nice flexibility and we would not have to recruit a PG immediately after Buie has moved on...maybe Bruner will announce Thursday during his visit ? Does anyone know if KS will be back next season ?? Looks like both Burguess and Bruner are take charge/leader types which is great for us

Burgess is a pure point guard, he, if all goes well will replace Buie after he leaves.

I agree triplec - kid looks like player. So if he were to commit to HU, next season our 1/2 spots would be DB, JR, CB and TB. The following season we would have CB at the point, JR at the 2, and TB as possible sixth man. As long as CB and TB are tenacious defenders and team players, I would be happy with that 8-)

Meant we would not have to recruit PG to backup Caleb if we land Tommy since he is a combo guard

All of these possibilities sound good but I want to know who comes in for Kante if he gets hurt, gets into foul trouble, to get a breather etc.? Are we to assume that Schutte is the 5 backup now assuming he doesn't transfer. We know Stafford is too thin to play the 5. Who's Kante's backup or are we bringing in another Dwyer??

Charleston is in on Bruner, as well.
He'd be a great pickup for the future but also as mentioned above, if he does come here, they'd only have 1 spot left to add talent at the 4 or backup 5 next year, both of which could be of need.

I saw that Cactus too about Charleston
It looks like Cof C already has 2 LOI's for next year at this position and plenty of other undergrad guards. If I am this kid, I want some playing time and HU may be a better option going forward.

Agreed, Hofstra only has 9 scholarship guys who are eligible next year, as of now, with Silverio having to sit a year and Cramer redshirting - Buie Burgess Ray Pemberton Coburn Trueheart Hughes Kante Schutte. If Coburn is going to play a lot of 4 again, plenty of minutes potentially available next year.

Don't count out Hughes for some minutes, hopefully 10 or so per game...he's long and can shoot...know nothing about his defense, rebounding and shot blocking though.

Will be interesting to see if Hughes can develop into a player during his potentially 5 years at Hofstra...

Other than size and 3 pt shooting (in warm-ups) he really is an unknown. If he can play D and rebound a bit he could be a nice asset this year. Would love to know if he has any inside or back-to-the hoop moves. With opponent bigs having to focus on Kante, HH could go outside in and have someone much smaller guarding him close to the basket. IF he has some moves, he could be a match-up nightmare for most teams. I just see a loads of options and potential if, if, if...….

Right now Hughes is a well kept secret intentionally or unintentionally. Only someone that has seen him in full practice mode would know what he is and isn't. He has had plenty of time to develop his game and bulk up. Hopefully he is doing his due diligence. We will see if we get a 4/5 before the season starts.

Per 247 Sports Justin Pierce from W&M who is one of the top available graduate transfers, is down to a list of three -- North Carolina, Notre Dame and Michigan. Pierce took his first visit to Notre Dame this past weekend. My my going from Rags to Riches!!
