Re: Media Thread
Bilas has us below Vermont, who's 67th in the NET and 70th in the RPI from a worse conference. Ranking us 58th isn't at-large chatter. I've seen us be praised, but I don't know if I've seen somebody other than fans on message boards say we deserve an at-large bid if we need it.
Re: Media Thread
He lists them in Tier 5, which he says are teams fighting for an at-large. May not means it's realistic, but in Bilas' eyes is it. That's chatter.EvanJ wrote:Bilas has us below Vermont, who's 67th in the NET and 70th in the RPI from a worse conference. Ranking us 58th isn't at-large chatter. Hofstra is 51st in the NET right now.

More JWF coverage on SportsCenter. Almost becoming an every night occurrence. No mention of Grant Riller’s 43 points.

Todays RPI has HU at #44. NET has yet to be updated.Wags wrote:That's the main thing here. I posted this because A) it does suggest that the at-large chatter has begun in terms of the fallback plan, but I mainly posted it because B) it's simply nice to hear that the team is getting this type of national attention. Certainly can't hurt recruiting for the future. That said, the primary focus needs to remain the same: win the regular season title, play well going into Charleston not only tonight, but the NEXT time, and win three in three days.Cards wrote: Agreed, but in the event we do get into the 40's, we would certainly need to be chatted up as well. Of course its a long shot, but some ink and recognition can't hurt.
Re: Media Thread
Just because he uses a term don't mean it's accurate. If all 15 conferences with at least one team he ranked ahead of Hofstra have their tournaments won by one of those teams, he has Hofstra 43rd in line for an at-large bid, which is the 7th team out. With how conference tournaments usually go, it would put us more like the 10th team out. In addition, if we win every game until the CAA Final, none of them will be good wins, and we could be ranked worse then than we are now.Wags wrote:He lists them in Tier 5, which he says are teams fighting for an at-large. Not that he would care, but Riller has a right to be mad. If you give him 5 combined CAA Tournament and postseason games after that for this season and next season, 13 out of conference games next season, and 22 CAA games this season and next season, that's 40 more games. If he scores his season average of 22.0 for 40 more games, he'll finish with 2,548 points, which would be second in CAA history behind David Robinson's 2,669. Jenkins scored 2,513.Sctvman wrote: More JWF coverage on SportsCenter. Almost becoming an every night occurrence. No mention of Grant Riller’s 43 points.

Newsday's article about the game didn't cite an author or the AP.
Re: Media Thread
It's that chatter and attention from a source like Bilas I'm pointing out more than the reality of whether they'd actually receive an at-large bid. It's simply good for a variety of reasons to have that chatter and attention, even if they don't win the CAA tourney and fail to get an at-large bid. But enough of that... they're winning the CAA tourney! (just in case my previous statement may have served as a jinx).EvanJ wrote:Just because he uses a term don't mean it's accurate. Wags, Thank you for posting the interview. It just shows what great young men and true friends these players are. Kudos to Coach Joe and staff for recruiting the Wright type of student athletes. We as fans should be grateful that these fine young men represent HU. Once again, thanks to all for all the hard work and numerous hours put in on the part of the HU community.

Because of who they are and how they are, as much as how they're playing, this is one of the most fun seasons I've ever seen for any team I've ever followed.triplec2195 wrote:This is all part of the winning culture here and these kids are great on and off the court. The tweet says Saturday at 1:45 P.M. https://www.tvpassport.com/tv-listings/ ... 2019-02-23 says they're showing Inside College Basketball at 1:00, Auburn at Kentucky at 1:30 P.M., and Florida State at North Carolina at 3:45 P.M. I like Florida State, so CBS could show two teams I like in one day.

Re: Media Thread
Good article that’s also on Facebook.
Re: Media Thread
It says "Attendance per game is up approximately 900 over last season, a Hofstra official said." It's up 232. A sellout of 4,465 would make it go up 161 to make it 393 higher than last season. This season has our highest attendance since we averaged 2,403 in 2011-2012 when we went 10-22 in our first season after Jenkins.
Re: Media Thread
Newsday's sports on TV and radio listed us because we're on WRHU. They missed both games on CBS and an English Premier League soccer game on NBC. They only list games on channels that they're expecting to show games, rather than checking every channel that could show games. What Newsday does is like if a driver gets pulled over for not stopping at a red light or stop sign and says he didn't stop because he didn't expect a light or stop sign to be there.
Re: Media Thread
Caught the CBS piece with Rothstein, mostly a plug for Vincents lol, but it was a super 5 minute national exposure during their inside college baskeball segment - will take that all day long!
And how amazing that HU's worst loss is UNCW! Bet nobody figured that would happen anytime soon considering that program... sure they loved seeing that
Best win SHOULD'VE been VCU. Huge missed opp. Oh well. Gotta cut nets and do it against a P5 on the national stage!
