Re: Media Thread
Newsday actually posted a story about the streak although I don't think it was in the paper...at least not today's.

I refuse to even give them the satisfaction of another user signing in to view. I have never signed in to view any of their material, and I will continue that.
I know some on here really want HU to 'do something', but my take is different. Screw them. Here's what I would do: very quietly, passive aggressively, make sure they are the last to get interviews, the last to get access, the last in everything. They want to be bozos, then let them.
Because here's the thing: As I've said, when HU is good, they are the least of HU's concerns with media outlets. It's already happening, and will continue to grow as the team performs. And see now newsday has no choice but to cover, or look totally ridiculous and out of sync. It's still minor because they are biased against HU, but all the more reason to ignore them. Just like courting the hot person when you were young... you don't go groveling, you play it cool, and flip the script
And trust me, when HU makes the dance again they will be right there pretending like they've been the hometown paper for the hometown team all along. It's going to be comical to all who know.
HU has real outlets now. The great thing about NY media, and something HU has over everyone else in the conf. It would be great if they got their heads out of their rears, but if not, cool, they are are small time hs level.
Excited to see what is to come!!

Re: Media Thread
ABC Channel 7 Ran highlights of our win last night, talked about the streak and promoted the game tomorrow vs. Charleston. Who needs Newsday?

Another nice article in the Post https://nypost.com/…/hofstra-dreaming-b ... -streak-…/ I got this off facebook.
Re: Media Thread
Great article and thanks for posting triplec. Nice that a NY paper does a better job of covering the team than the one in our backyard.
Here's a more direct link to the story..https://nypost.com/2019/01/19/hofstra-d ... wont-stop/

Thanks for the story guys, nice article !!!!!!!!!
Re: Media Thread
Newsday's Mark Herrmann wrote an article about the game and an article about Pemberton. It was wrong to call UNC Wilmington a good team. Mihalich said he could finish Top 10 in Hofstra history. He has 1,162 points. Norman Richardson is tenth with 1,677. If you give us three CAA Tournament wins this season, a loss to start the NCAA Tournament (or the NIT if we lose the CAA Final would be the same amount of games), and 32 games next season with the normal 13 out of conference, a loss in our first CAA Tournament game, and nothing after that, he has 47 games left. If he averages 15 per game, he would get 705 more and finish with 1,867, which would be ninth. Barring a catastrophe, JWF will be our eighth player to 2,000, and it will be hard for Pemberton to reach that. To reach 2,000 if he plays 47 more games, he would need to average 17.9. The most career points by teammates is 4,789 by Jenkins and Agudio (teammates for one season), then 4,424 by Agudio and Stokes (teammates for three seasons), then 3,692 by Claxton and Richardson (teammates for three seasons). JWF and Pemberton could be over 3,692 by the end of this season.

Re: Media Thread
I completely disagree on making them “wait.” That only punishes the reporters who have nothing to do with the coverage decisions. Mark Hermann in particular does great job covering games.Polito wrote:Like I said, as HU continues to succeed, REAL outlets will do the proper job over them - newsday has become small time, and made themselves that way over the years. Total waste. Shame cuz they're local and they refuse to properly support HU, but screw 'em, they're a pea in the media HU is already receiving. And if things go as we all hope, it's going to get goooooood. Benefit of location. An awesome benefit. When HU is great.
And trust me, they will pretend like they've been there all along just to save face. Will be comical and pathetic lol. HU should make them wait and be last for all interview and piece requests

Re: Media Thread
Hermann does come to quite a few games (I sit right behind him). Where the coverage ends up is the editors choice - I think the Hermann does a great job when he is sent to Hofstra.
Re: Media Thread
Mark Hermann is a real pro and gentleman...and you're right, he does not make any editorial decisions nor does he determine what Newsday covers...He can make suggestions to his editor...Just amazing today's paper must have had 20 pages devoted to HS sports...totally NUTS!
Re: Media Thread
High school sports is what pays the bills, even in an area like Long Island. With so many schools probably a large chunk of their budget goes toward HS coverage.
A lot like what happens down here in Charleston with CofC. Our writer also covers the local minor league hockey and soccer teams, and any time there is a big football game, they send him as an extra writer. He does a great job, but our columnist usually sticks to South Carolina and Clemson. He may cover 2-3 of our games each season.
But the newspaper here is family-owned and actually gets stories in the next day’s edition. Wilmington (UNCW)’s paper is printed in Fayetteville, and has a bed time of like 7:30pm or so on a Saturday night. Nothing after 7 gets in the paper. Most of what goes in is online.

Re: Media Thread
I don't like when people root for a team in a top conference in their state but much farther away than another Division I team. According to Google Maps, it takes longer to drive from College of Charleston to Clemson than from Hofstra to Towson.
For high school football, Nassau and Suffolk have four groups of 12 or 14 teams each, and Christian schools compete separately in CHSAA. That's over 100 teams.
Soccer is played outdoors at a different time of year than NCAA Basketball.

Re: Media Thread
NBC had some Hofstra highlights on last nights 11pm newscast (after St. John’s and Seton Hall). They mentioned the streak as well. That’s good local news coverage.

Just got this from Twitter highlights from all of our 14 wins. https://twitter.com/hofstrapride?lang=en This highlight reel is freakin awesome with sound!!
Re: Media Thread
Bruce Beck ran video of our win vs. Charleston and discussed the streak...the LONGEST in the nation! on his sports highlights show on NBC-Channel 4 last night.
Re: Media Thread
Hm, I hear you guys on the reporters being the ones who would be unfairly hurt by turning backs on newsday... certainly not the intent. Glad to hear we at least have one good on the right side. Unfortunately, he has no power, so it's kind of moot guys.
Also, I have no problem with the HS coverage - my issue is HU coverage should be MUCH stronger. And the two can absolutely co-exist.

Newsday printed the standings and this week's schedule for the America East, Big East, and CAA.

PROGRESS????? They have been disrespectful to the school for a lot of years.EvanJ wrote:Newsday printed the standings and this week's schedule for the America East, Big East, and CAA.
Re: Media Thread
They print those standings occasionally. I would guess once or twice a month. I don't know if St. John's, Hofstra, and Stony Brook having good records made them print the standings.
