Guys gutted it out on a day the shots wer not falling. Out manned again down low but our defense was real tough.

Remember they were also playing at about 4000 feet elevation...not that easy.

Six and two with NO inside presence....GO PRIDE!

Thoughts on the game. We shoot 33% from the three point line and were outrebounded 41-34. That was the bad news. The good news is even with a poor shooting game we score 68 points and limit Appy stste to 51. The important stat of the game other than the final score we had 12 Assts to 4 turnovers. A 3 to 1 ratio. Appy State had 6 assts to 15 turnovers. Will take that every game.

Hofstra won 68-51. It was the fewest points Hofstra has allowed since January 7, 2013 in a 52-50 win hosting Georgia State. http://www.gohofstra.com/news/2014/12/7 ... 40556.aspx is Hofstra's recap. http://www.gohofstra.com/boxscore.aspx? ... ath=mbball is the box score. Hofstra had only 4 turnovers. Juan'ya Green led all scorers with 17. Ameen Tanksley and Frank Eaves scored 13 each. Eaves was Appalachian State's only double-digit scorer. Dion Nesmith scored 11, Brian Bernardi scored 10, and Malik Nichols had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400595220 is the Associated Press recap titled "Green leads Hofstra over Appalachian State 68-51."

Another important stat. With 2:35 left we had an 11 point lead. Appy state then fouled us and we were 10-10 from the free throw line in the last 2 minutes of the game. We were able to build the lead to 17 points.

There is no reason we can not be 10-3/ 9-4 AT WORST at the end of 2014. (11-2 would be great but not holding my breath on that)

When our shooting guards are fouled the make free throws...Green, Bernardi and Nesmith. Early in the game Nichols and Tanksley missed quite a few. In fact until the last six or so minutes of the game, we were way under 50% from the line.

We officially have a road-game win streak for the first time in who knows how many years! We have a pretty good chance to add to it on Wednesday against Coppin St.

Agree with you gothamli - I think 10-3 at worst is reasonable for our OOC schedule. Moving into CAA play, however, I beleive we will only continue to be successful as long as the bigs are healthy. We will surely need them once we are up against the likes of Eatherton, Baru, Gettys, and a few others. Our gaurds are dominating, but better teams will expose our weakness inside and pound the ball down low against Walker. Not a knock against him, he is doing fine for a true young freshman (who is still developing physically and mentally). We will need Kone for the experience, toughness and explosiveness....and Gustys for his rebounding and hard-nosed play (recall that although Rokus is a freshman, he played on national level teams and because of the european transition in high school, I think is a sophmore agewise (physically he's more like a 20 year old).

Should have three easy games (Coppin, LIU, Central Conn), one good game against Columbia, and one good test against LaSalle. Then CAA play. I like the fact that we are winning, but I wish the competition so far was having better seasons. Our strength of schedule is pretty low, and it's not going up playing Coppin LIU and CCSU. on the flip side, most CAA teams are playing pretty well so far. Hopefully thier RPIs will rise along with ours and the CAA will look better and better.

Important W to me due to the situation the team is in - App St not a super team, but they're decent with a lot of front court depth - HU didn't have a great shooting game, got outrebounded (as expected), but they played hard, battled through the lulls, and with 1 frosh post guy still put it on them for 15+ on their floor

gotta love this team - all the opponents are not great, which of course helps, but some are solid so don't underestimate what they're doing: adapting to a very difficult situation with a very different gameplan - and they're not just barely getting by, they're winning comfortably, staying aggressive and attacking - that my friends is first and foremost great coaching, and also leadership among the key players

like I said, team hasn't played their best ball yet - prob won't hit their real stride until the big guys return healthy and get a few games under their belt - looking for that high level play to click in around Feb/Mar

in the meantime just keep winning baby - don't care how - this is all about getting to 20 wins and cutting down the CAA nets - the remaining OOC schedule sets up nicely to add on to the win column

love to see Kone and Gustys back for LaSalle, but really just want them to return at 100% to win the conf - I really see every game through the end of the year as very winnable - I'm looking for them to stay at 2 L's to finish '14

good find, enjoyed the article and the site

that App St win was bigger than most gave credit for, all things considered. Very proud of the team -

Met. Gary when he used to live in Bellmore. Didn't realize he moved to South Carolina.
