MBB Roster for 2026-27

Post by Jojogunne »

GoHofstra.com now has a page for our 2026-27 MBB roster. Unfortunately, only our three returning players are listed. Both Boyd and Lopez are listed as seniors.

Summer Session II classes begin on Wednesday, so I would expect most of our transfers to be listed sometime this week:

So, I asked Gemini…AI…who the surprise upside transfer will be next season. The answer was Elijah Gelin. He’s one to watch.

Deywilk Tavarez's cousin, Yaxel Lendeborg (Michigan), was selected 11th by Golden State in tonight's NBA Draft at the Barclays Center. I wonder if Deywilk was there?

Do you remember when they tried that once and you needed a magnifying glass to read the names?

lol yep - good idea, bad execution

I like the team, I think, lol - not 100% yet of course - I dig our size and multiple centers, we have multiple wings, we have lots of good sized (and hopefully good shooting) guards... all has to be proven on the court but on paper we addressed a lot of needs.

The yearly question is, do we have leadership - and that we won't know till the ball hits the floor.

So the biggest related question I think right now is who is going to be our PG1?? Most important piece to the entire team in college hoops. We need whoever it is to be a stud general. Do we have that??

Yeah, Polito. This is where the loss of Edmead hurts. We'll see.

It certainly appears that Justin Moore is the PG and he's a good guard. I know his shooting percentages aren't great but he has to dish and this he does.

Have you seen the bio for Michael Cascione?
What an amazing resume!
All State in 3 sports basketball football and baseball. I think we all can agree that in today's era of specialization that this is nothing short of incredible.
I wonder if he will try baseball as well at Hofstra.
If basketball is his only focus here, I would not sell him short.

Kid is definitely an accomplished athlete, takes some real dedication and skill especially to be impactful across 3 sports - man, his family must deserve some credit for ubering and financing all that for him!!

That said, this is largely vs very marginal or below competition, at least for hoops - he's not doing that in a city or catholic or prep league. I still see him as a great depth addition to the scout and practice squads. And nothing wrong with that at all.

Very valid points. A big fish in a little pond perhaps.
1st team all state is a bigger pond. In 3 sports a much bigger sample. Maybe a special kid with a special attitude. Let’s see what he can do at the next level.
Good players have come out of Long Island see Preston Edmead and the kid who finished at Michigan State via Northeastern. You never know.

A few hype practice videos and I'm officially very excited for this season.

Biggie was a pretty big x-factor for us last year... I see Decady in that position this year. The hope is he can take his All-CAA defense and continue to make a jump on the offensive end. It's not too hard to see him further developing an Ameen Tanksley type offensive skill set of consistent 3-pt shooting and "good enough" drive and dish to go with good aggressive offensive rebounding.

If he makes a leap, Tanner Thomas is as advertised, and the shooting and CAA-level experience we're bringing in with Tavarez and Moore are there, it's easy to get excited. Throw 3 seven footers (aka 15 fouls) on top and I'm ready for pre-season and OOC play :-)

DeCady has the athleticism to be a strong leader for this year's team. If we can get one of those three bigs to anchor our defense, plus solid outside shooting from Thomas and good guard play from Moore and Tararez, we'll have a real shot at success.

I really like the Tanksley comparison.

Good points, HU87.

I hope he can do it again. Blending an entirely new squad into a cohesive unit is a skill, and so far, Speedy has succeeded better than his peers.
