Many here have been hard on his coaching flaws over the years, myself included, but there isnt a person on earth who cares more about this program than him. I literally had his poster on my wall as a kid, and look at him now. So beyond happy for Speedy to get this done
Sounds like no one went to Speedy's birthday party. Draft Day style. What a moment though.

Emotionally drained in the best way possible after last night and tonight.

So proud of the players and coaches. The team found it's way after the 5 game losing streak and played some excellent defense the past month to snag the double-bye and put themselves in championship contention. The tournament felt particularly personal the whole way; the W&M game got real chippy, the Towson game felt like two brothers just slugging it out on the backyard hoop for hours. That game will stick with me for a long time.

Tonight's game was similar. Both teams fought admirably through the fatigue. True respect for Monmouth, but we were the better team. Quiet great 2nd halves from Silas and Victory, kept the points flowing in the paint and on the line. 10 offensive boards. They really gave us all they had. Cruz' legs looked done, but he kept grinding to get to the hoop. German hitting an all-time big shot for the program in the final minute.

Edmead with another heroic performance. He got us the title. Cannot say enough great things about his play this week and season, he can do it all, he elevated the program this year.

A truly pleasant surprise this year. I had no expectations coming in, but we played great in non-con and had a great start in CAA play. Losing to SB and A&T sucked, but we somehow got out of it better, 180 from last season.

Was particularly proud of the coaching staff in the W&M game, I've complained about our in-game strategy all year, but we outfoxed the Tribe with our personnel matchups, they could never take off the way they wanted to, and we pulled away. That game set the tone for the rest of the tournament.

The NCAAT is house money. We've had great teams since 2001 that fell short, and one that didn't that never got the chance. So happy for these players that they get the experience. I can't believe it's been 25 years, I still remember running from the bus in middle school to catch the start of the UCLA game...This is awesome.

I was at the NCAA tournament at Nassau Coliseum, watching the end of a close game. I was hoping it would end so I could watch that game against UCLA. It was months before I graduated from Hofstra. I kept sneaking out by the concessions to get quick updates on the TV there. When the game at the Coliseum ended, I quickly ran to a bar across the street (before returning to the Coliseum for the night session) and was so disappointed that UCLA had already pulled away late by the time I got there.

It IS awesome. Taking a selfie with Speedy with the net around his neck was as surreal as Mihalich giving me a hug on the same floor six years ago. I'm so proud of them. They really believed and fought hard until the mission was accomplished. I hope this teaches us all not to live and die so much with every regular-season win and loss. You'd have thought around here that the program was about to fold when they lost those five straight.

It is BUT how many mid-majors in the NCAAT will have anything like a conference POY, a ROY + MOP, a 21-1 record when holding teams under 70 points, and not a single double-digit loss? They can be dangerous depending on the draw.

I'm just as proud of those teams as I am of this team, and the 2000, 2001, and 2020 teams.

I hold the 2006, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2023 teams in the same regard (though they fell just a bit short; it happens, conference tourneys are crapshoots -just look at UNCW this year or how Hofstra reached the final on a lucky bankshot). Still would've held this team in high regard had they lost on either of the past two nights.

Going to try to keep this simple.

Congratulations!

This was a fun season.

After the Iona game - when we were blown out in the first 10 minutes - I felt like we had a different team this year—more athletic and more cohesive - and did not give up.

To the players, congratulations on coming together as a team in this challenging NIL transfer era. It’s not easy, but you made it happen.

To the coaching staff, you brought in players from the transfer portal. Cruz, Silas, Biggie, and Victory were athletic, engaged, and contributed on the court.

You also developed traditional recruits who stayed loyal: Edmead, who was special; German, like a coach on the floor; and DeCady, who showed impressive growth from the start of the season to March.

To Hofstra Admin, the Pride Club, and Bryan, Jessica, and McKenzie—you make us feel valued and part of the team be it a home game or on the road - thank you.

To the group here on this site, the most loyal Hofstra fans: whether we agreed or not, I’ve always appreciated your enthusiasm, insights, and perspectives.

To the fans jumping on the bandwagon this week, welcome aboard! Good team or bad team - Try coming to some games next year, buy season tickets, and help fill the Mack—these players, coaches, and staff deserve it.

I’m happy for the players, coaching staff, hardworking Athletic and Pride Club staff, all of us fans, and especially our most loyal fan, Sideline Sammy!

In a lifetime of rooting for losers, this is soooooooo sweet.
Congrats to Speedy, his assistant coaches and a terrific team that may have a few surprises in store for a tournament team that doesn’t take us seriously. Go Pride! You. Did. It.

Not our most talented recent team, but for once, the fates were with us, and we got the job done. And yes, after losing five straight, this team seemed to be toast. Well done, Speedy and Co., for non panicking, getting it back on the rails, and executing when it mattered most. This squad has the heart of lions!

Congratulations to the entire team, and especially to Preston for winning Tournament MVP!
Where were our fans...their presennce was vitually non-existent. Congrats to Speedy and the team....predicted to finish eighth and cutting down the nets in March!!!
He should have been Coach of the Year!
And Preston...we need to do everything we can to keep him in Hempstead!

Behind the basket, as weak as the Lion's Den, unfortunately. But they were actually pretty good in number and awesome in support with being into it, being loud, the signs they brought, etc., behind the bench for all three games. I don't think Monmouth had that many more fans, they were just louder at times. Credit to them. Their count mocking Edmead at the FT line didn't shake him at all (he does probably take more than the allotted ten seconds to shoot the FT while he's doing that slight little juggle with the ball though - but all good as long as the refs don't call it).

NBY was there on the court celebrating with the team. Jean Aranguren was also there again last night.

Great to hear that Aranguren was there too.
Wonder if GW can earn a bid as well.

Sweet that we got a bot of well deserved press from this so called LI Newspaper. Probably no major St John's crap to fill the paper.

King Rice's postgame comments:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1va_6BhQoEI

I hope Coach Rice gets to win the CAA tournament soon. He seems like a really nice guy, the kind of coach athletes want to play for.

In his comments, he says he encourages his players to transfer when they are offered hundreds of thousand of dollars, and that his phone is probably blowing up now with agents offering players to him. This environment may be good for the athletes, but it's not good for schools like Monmouth and Hofstra.

King Rice is a CLASS act...he gave such credit to Speedy and our team.
Funny side note...take a look at Speedy's post game presser...he's got a basketball with a STONYBROOK logo on it! GET THAT OUT OF THERE!
