MBB Game 16 @Towson, Jan 8 (Thu) 12:30 PM

Post by Jojogunne »

After traveling back to Philly to take on Drexel, Hofstra will hit the road a few days later to face Towson (1/8).

Preseason favorites to finish near the top of the league, the Tigers have gotten off to a rough start, losing to both William & Mary and Hampton. They will host Monmouth this coming Saturday (11/3).

Towson's scoring leaders are 6-9 Tyler Tejada (17 ppg), 6-1 Dylan Williamson (15) and 6-6 Jack Doumbia, Jr. (11). Could be a tough matchup for us.

FloCollege and WRHU (88.7 FM) will both carry the game. Tipoff is an early 12:30 pm.

This could be a tough matchup for us true but the way that they're playing and the way we're playing the converse of this could very well be true!

Towson was shooting 24% over the first 32 minutes. They didn't have a double-digit scorer until 5:01 left.

The preseason favorite is about to start 0-3, barring a big late comeback.

Monmouth won, 62-48. Towson is 0-3 in league play.

12:30 pm on a Thursday? Strange. I guess because of TV (MNMT).

I would almost be shocked if we find a way to lose this game. Towson is in free fall and we don't need to help them right the ship. Lets continue their slide.

Triplex I hope you are right but I fully expect a brawl in this game. At 0-3 this is an enormous game for Towson. Coach Skerry will have the team super aggressive on the boards and I think they will be very physical on Thursday. I trust that Speedy will reinforce the importance of showing up ready to compete.

The last thing Hofstra can do is take this one for granted. Maybe the preseason polls will prove to be way off (as they often are), but it's still early. If the polls were even remotely right, playing the preseason favorite at their place, with an odd early start time on the road, after travelling to Philly for a second-half battle, then back home, and down to Towson, with the Tigers absolutely desperate for a win to avoid an 0-4 start, could prove to be one of the toughest challenges Hofstra faces during the entirety of CAA play this year.

The message all week (as I fully trust it will be) should be to completely ignore the 0-3 and treat Towson like the preseason contender most people thought they were. It's also a chance to possibly bury Towson early (to take an early 3.5-game lead on them) and to worry about one less fellow contender to deal with later. Lose, and you let them back in the picture, and it's possibly one more contender to have to deal with later when jockeying for position at the top - no shortage of motivation there. So, a huge game, and Hofstra better be ready. As you said, don't help them right the ship.

And, it's the CAA, where we know little has made sense over the years. 0-3 beating 2-0 would make perfect sense the way the league has gone. Wouldn't shock me a bit if Towson suddenly woke up, shot much better than it has, and won. Hofstra can't let them. Bring the D for 40 minutes, led by Onuetu, and at least hold their own on the boards.

100% agree with Captain and Wags here. If we treat Towson the way we treated Campbell and Drexel we will get punched in the mouth and lose this game. I was really hoping Towson had won yesterday to take a little of their desperation off before facing us.

In addition to everything stated already, dont overlook the Biggie injury impact for this game. Tyler Tejada is still one of the elite players in this league, and we have almost no one who can match up with him size/athletically besides Biggie. Of all the conference opponents to potentially not have Biggie for, this might be the worst.

What's the nature pf Patterson's injury and is he definitely out for the Towson game?

Good points here about Towson's backs against the wall but feel we will be just as motivated to bury them and right now we're playing better. I think DeCady gets the assignment to slow down Tejada and DeCady can definitely play physical D so it will be interesting to see that matchup. This should be a very competitive game and I don't think Tejada can beat us all by himself so we will need to contain Williamson and Doumbia.

I'm pretty sure with the secrecy surrounding players we won't know this until game time?

Triplec2195, you are right. Forgot about how everything seems to be a mystery. Thanks.

It appeared that Patterson and Roberts banged their knees. Both returned to the game. I know Patterson came out of the game again. Maybe they need more "imaging" to determine the nature and extent of his injury. Any why announce anything before the next game?

I think Patterson will be ok by Thursday and let's not forget about DeCady. He has won the starting job over Patterson and has been playing well until Saturday's no show against Drexel. The two of them are almost identical physically.

I thought ESPN would favor Towson a little more at home, but they have this one as nearly a toss-up (Hofstra 48.7%).

Towson a 1.5 favorite which shows that even at home Towson isn't getting a whole helluva lot of respect. Hopefully we play 40 minutes and realize the importance of this game.

Worried about this game...hope its not a trap. Towson is going to come out and play it like their season is on the line...which for them it just might be.

Agree husid. Either Towson is imploding or they will start turning things around. They have too much talent not be dangerous in the CAA, so I am more worried about the latter turn around case.

All the above is obviously true and we should play this game like it's a CAA playoff game so we'll see who wants it more!
