MBB Game 14 Campbell, Dec. 29 (Mon) 7 PM

Post by Jojogunne »

Campbell (6-6) played a rugged out-of-conference schedule against the likes of Gonzaga, Minnesota, Penn State, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Although the Camels went 0-6 against these higher-ranked opponents, they gained valuable experience for league play.

John Andrzejek, the former Florida assistant, is Campbell's new head coach. Three transfers lead the Camels in scoring: 6-0 DJ Smith (19 ppg, Robert Morris), 6-9 Dovydas Butka (17 ppg, Pepperdine) and 6-7 Chris Fields, Jr. (13 ppg, Norfolk State).

Campbell hosts Green Bay on Tuesday before traveling to Hempstead next weekend. That game will be on FloCollege.

Our game will be on MSG2 and FloCollege.

Campbell lost 78-50 at Minnesota.

Can the title be changed to Game 14?

ESPN is giving us an 82% chance of beating Campbell and we are also #84 in the NET while W&M IS 69. Next is UNCW at 120 Towson 131. I'd expect us to be around an 8 point favorite over Campbell. What does everybody else think??

I believe we are at home, so I’m thinking 8 points is right on target.

If there’s one thing I’d like to see from the team this year (obviously an ncaa tourney berth) I really want to see them try to dominate these teams and win by as much as possible. For some reason in years past it’s almost like the team would take their foot off the gas when leading and I think that’s a coaching issue. Speedy needs to have enough fire in him to tell the guys to stomp on their opponents throats and beat them by 40

Yeah we all would like to blow teams out and maybe in some of these games we will but a win by 1 point is just as good as a win by 20. It all goes into the win column but yes a lot more stress in these close games. I'm with you.

The 10 straight missed shots in the last game aside, this year's team doesn't seem to be as streaky as last year's team. A lot of why last year's team often couldn't either pull away or couldn't hold maintain bigger leads is because they'd often go through stretches of missing six, eight straight shots or more. This year's team generally doesn't seem to have the same issue, so if they get up big, they should be able to maintain that better.

You’re right Wags. But, I’m sure you see what I’m saying though. This team in years past has never been a team to just destroy teams once they get up big. I even remember watching the Campbell game last year where they were up at home and were up big and then ended up losing in OT

I was there and remember that game well. That's a good example of what I mean. They were up 16 at the half and only scored 23 in the second half. It wasn't the 6,8, 10 straight misses we would see sometimes, but they missed a few, made one, missed a few, and that's why they couldn't maintain the lead and hold Campbell off. This year, they seem less streaky, especially with cold streaks, but we will see.

Last year's team was especially good at playing down to its level of competition.

You’re exactly right Joey bag. That’s what I was looking for I think. Instead of playing down to their competition they need to try and dominate some of these teams.

They played okay when they were hitting, but they couldn't shoot, even when they got good looks. The defense and effort were consistently there, and they led or stayed in games when they were making shots, but those cold streaks were always when things got away from them. And when you can't shoot, those cold streaks can happen against any team, good or bad (as we saw).

This is not last year's team. Completely different...you can't expect the same results from last year.

We're scoring 77.6 points a game and giving up 66.2 a 11.4 point advantage. Last year we scored 66.7 and gave up 65. We're scoring 11 points more a game and giving up about 1 point more. To HUSID'S point we're a far better team and the stats bare it out.

KenPom expects us to win 82-71 with an 83 percent chance of winning. I was unable to find a point spread, but I did find two sets of odds to win the CAA Tournament. UNCW is first. One set had us second, and the other had W&M second. W&M and us are over twice as likely as fourth most likely Towson, and everybody else is way behind Towson.

Spreads should be available in most of the major books later tonight or early tomorrow. But for most of Hostra's games the opening spread will match or be very close to the KenPom point difference. So expect maybe 10.5 or 11.5 as the opening line.

https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/side ... ofstra.pdf is Campbell's game notes.

https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=612057 will have statistics. For now, it has the rosters. Campbell's roster has thirteen players, who are eight guards and five forwards. They used eleven players, nine of whom played in at least nine games.

Campbell has four of the CAA's top 18 in scoring, and two of the top 4 in rebounding.

Jerry Beach has not written I'll Be Quirky yet.

Here is the rest of today's CAA schedule:

KenPom expects Charleston to win 77-68 with a 77 percent chance of winning.

UNCW at NC A&T at 7:00 P.M. on CBS Sports Network
Statistics: https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=613354
KenPom expects UNCW to win 78-70 with a 78 percent chance of winning.

Stony Brook at Hampton at 7:00 P.M.

Video: https://www.flocollege.com/live/214466
KenPom expects Hampton to win 72-69 with a 60 percent chance of winning.

Monmouth has off, and their first CAA game is hosting Campbell on Wednesday at 2:00 P.M.

Edit: W&M made a long three on the first possession of the game for this season's first points in a CAA game, and it did not take long for the video to make a mistake, as it gave those points to Towson.
