I've been saying this for a long time we shouldn't be playing D3 teams maybe D2. It is very demoralizing for the team taking the beatdown but Speedy preached "RESPECT" RESPECT for the game and respect for the other team. So I guess respect in this context means beating them up but he did put the bench in to play roughly the last 10 minutes. If he kept the starters in we would have scored over 100 points. No point to that. The one really positive thing coming out of this game to see the huge upside to Jaeden Roberts and what an impact he can be if he's given the minutes. Speedy even echoed that possibility in his post presser. I think we will see Roberts coming in to play the point for Edmeade moving forward maybe limiting minutes for Wills. He adds another scorer to the potent attack that we already have and he's aggressive. He will take it to the basket and likes to play above the rim. Also good look at Alex who could be a viable option to Sunday. A lot of DOG in that kid.

I addressed this a bit here after I spoke to DePaoli after the game:dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 11:01 am Just for a local comparison...
-Iona with their 1st yr no college experience head coach has hosted us, fordham, Princeton, bryant (last night) and is playing St John's at msg this weekend
-last night alone in northeast mid majors you had Merrimack at Princeton, Maine at BU, New Haven at NJIT, FDU at Fordham, Colgate at St Bonnaventure
I dont understand how we cant get any even low level D1 team for a game like last night instead of wasting time with a bad d3 team

I asked him about Manhattan. He said they don't want to come to Hofstra to play. I asked about local or fairly local NEC schools like Wagner, Central Connecticut, Mercyhurst (from PA), Stonehill (from MA). He said it's very difficult to schedule because they all want a home-and-home involving money that can't be worked out between them and Hofstra. You would think they could still somehow get one of those schools or one like some of the others mentioned above (there are plenty of them to go around, any of which would be better than non a D-I), but it sounds like they've tried with those kinds of schools and got nowhere.
DePaoli said they did get the home-and-home with Iona and Bucknell after Hofstra went there this year, so they'll both come to Hempstead next year, but also expect two more non-DI home games next year, like this year.
Maybe it's time for more mascot rock/paper/scissors matches like they did with Iona before.

Why not LIU, they are right down the block!

Most likely, the same situation as the others - home-and-home, money, or like Manhattan, they simply don't want to come to Hofstra.
But they made it work this year + next year with Iona and Bucknell and there are so many choices, it seems there should be other options. All they need is 2-3 per year. Any D-I team is better than hosting D-II and D-III.

You mention money - what exactly are you talking about - They want $ to come here ? Is it home and home $ ?

A few years ago St Francis in Brooklyn said they will come to Hofstra for $50,000

Would they have broken even on that? Not so sure. Especially if they dropped the program before the return game
