MBB Game 15 - Delaware - 1/5/15, 7 PM

Post by Jojogunne »

This is our first home conference game of the season. The Blue Hens got off to a rough 0-10 start before defeating A10 St. Bonaventure at the Bob last week. They also host a tough NE squad on Saturday.

http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_206_Men.html

Sharpshooting Kyle Anderson (from Newark, Ill.) leads the Hens with 16 ppg. UD is located in Newark, Del., and the team will pass Newark, N.J., en route to Hempstead. Just sayin'....

I expect a big win tomorrow night from HU. Gustys makes a big difference for us and another DNP out Walker.

26 def seems high, even at home against this yrs UD team - they are coming off a nice first win over St Bona, so prob finally feeling a bit of confidence/positive/relief lol - I expect them to play hard, but HU should really show major force on their home floor, esp work to start strong and have a good first half - take the wind out early

I'd like to see a 15-20 pt win in the end

Delaware's game preview and notes claim that JAM graduated from Hamilton College in 1983… Not sure where they got that information, since it is doesn't say Hamilton anywhere in his bio.

Also, Juan'ya Green tweeted earlier this morning that he's "sick as dog"… Hopefully he still plays.

Not good news about Green. I still have confidence in a "W" with nesmith starting, but obviously would feel better with more depth (a healthy Green).

Prayers your way to heal fast my friend!

Although I will say I'm quite curious to see how this team performs in the case he is unable to play - always need to be prepared, and this could be utilized in a positive way to get that experience under their belts - better to learn now at home against UD than later on...

I believe having Nesmith is a HUGE, often underrated, plus for this team, by me included - knew it'd be great to have a solid Sr coming off the bench to spell guys, but he's been an even bigger part of this teams success - as has been mentioned by others (fans and staff) the team almost improves when he comes in, which is quite rare to say the least!

Could be a nice opp for him to take the reigns for a full game this yr and lead the team to a nice home conf W

Gustys could break two records tonight - rebounds and missed shoots - in less the 2 minutes Gustys must have 5 rebounds just by following his own missed shots. Sloppy.

yet another ugly start. Down 8-13, we're shooting 25% from the field, and 0-7 from 3 about halfway through the first...

I swear Gustys just missed a shot on purpose (recorded another O-rebound) and put it back in.

Hofstra won 71-58. Delaware's largest lead was 7 at 13-6. Hofstra's largest lead was 16 four times. Hofstra made half of their two-pointers but only .217 of their three-pointers at 5 of 23. Hofstra has shot three-pointers .264 (19 of 72) in their last three games. Nobody scored a ton, with Juan'ya Green and Kyle Anderson tying for the lead with 16 points. Rokas Gustys had a double-double with 11 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots. Ameen Tanksley had 15 points and 9 rebounds. Brian Bernardi scored 13 and was the only Hofstra player to shoot three-pointers well. Moussa Kone, who led Hofstra in field goal percentage, had 8 points and 3 rebounds. Dion Nesmith had 5 rebounds and led all players with 6 assists but scored only 2 points. Delaware made only 9 out of 16 free throws which is .563. Hofstra led for 31:03, Delaware led for 7:27, it was tied for 1:28, and the statistics add up to only 39:58. Hofstra had 3 fewer turnovers, 15 more rebounds (including more than twice as many offensive rebounds as Delaware), 12 more second chance points, 3 fewer bench points, 14 more points in the paint, 3 more fast break points, 4 more blocked shots, 4 more steals, and 3 more assists. http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=67974&a=1 has great statistics. Hofstra's most consecutive field goals made was 4 (their last 4 attempts) and their most consecutive field goals missed was 6. Delaware's most consecutive field goals made was 4. Like Hofstra, it was at the end of the game. Delaware made their fifth to last through second to last field goals before missing their last one. Delaware's most consecutive field goals missed was 9.

Towson beat Elon and UNC Wilmington surprised Northeastern. That leaves Hofstra, William & Mary (who won by 26), and James Madison (who are up 7 with 1:08 left in the only CAA game that hasn't ended yet), as the only undefeated teams in CAA games.

Edit: http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400597855 is the Associated Press recap titled "Hofstra handles Delaware 71-58."

Another CAA win when we were not at our best. We killed Delaware with points in the paint. For second game in a row this team adjusted its game and came out on top. Kind of fun watching Rokas and Moussa dominating inside...this team is takin care of business and learning how to win on days the threes ain't fallin.

Something new? I don't recall seeing video like this so quickly after a game. Nice to have.

Replays turn Kone's two dunks into five or six.

http://gohofstra.com/news/2015/1/5/MBB_0105151225.aspx is Hofstra's recap titled "MBB: Balanced Scoring Leads Pride Past Delaware." The highlights are nice but it would be better if they were done with the score and clock on the screen. http://www.bluehens.com/ViewArticle.dbm ... =209836492 is Delaware's recap titled "Hofstra Hands Delaware Second Straight Loss, 71-58."

The attendance was only 1,341, and it lowers Hofstra's average to 1,577.
