Finished talking with coach Russo. This team will be a lot different. Much bigger than last year with 17 new faces. Current roster doesnt show new freshmen and two very talented transfers. We have a transfer from Miami University. Last year he won the college home run hitting contest. He is a beast of a hitter. Also we got a freshman transfer (now a soph) from UNCW. As a true freshman he batted 5th for UNCW. A lot more power. Also look at the current roster you see a lot more size in the lineup. Only a few players under 6ft.

There was also an overhaul in the coaching staff, and both hires appear to be home runs (no pun intended), especially pitching coach John Habyan, who should also be able to help a lot with recruiting considering his pedigree. Interesting that a player would transfer in-conference, and from one of the best schools in the CAA to Hofstra, a team that's been a bottom feeder the past several years.

Stu u of M or Miami of Ohio. Surprised to see a UNCW transfer, thought intra conference transfers were frowned upon if not banned.

When speaking with John Russo he told me Miami. Usually if you are talking Miami of Ohio they say it together Miami is implied U of Miami. he won the College HR hitting contest so i would guess he is from a big school like Miami.

Dont remember the name but said he batted 5th as a true freshman last year. Look at the size of the players on the roster. The new guys are averaging about 6ft3. nine new pitchers and many local players. I think we will have a pretty good team next year.

So I guess I was right. John Russo is very high on this player. Could develop into a very special player for Hofstra.

Sean Rausch, one of our baseball recruits, is also an outstanding football player. He is a regional finalist for Wendy's High School Heisman Award and will be attending the collegiate Heisman Award ceremony tomorrow:

Motivation for the team to surprise the conference? Picked 8th out of 9 and only 1 preseason all-conference player. There is a lot of talent in the newcomers this year, and all new assistant coaches.

Here's a nice writeup/breakdown of the team from Baseball On The Island. The team kicks off the season with 3 games against #5 Texas A&M. BOTI will be at the games.

Not too shabby of a start against the 4th ranked team in the country. We lead and we're out-hitting them. I don't expect it to stay like this, although that would awesome if it did, but if we can at least be competitive throughout this 3 game series, it could be a very promising season for this young team.

This season has been pretty rough for our baseball team. They've had some good games, as well a lot of head-scratchers, but that's expected when the team is so young. They just got their biggest win of the season so far, and 4-3 walk-off win over College of Charleston in 11 innings. CofC beat #2 South Carolina earlier this season, and came into this game 15th in the RPI, so this is a huge win, and I figured they deserve a shout out for it. Our starting pitcher who went the first 9 full innings is a sophomore, and he exited with the game tied at 2. We then brought in a freshman who pitched the final 2 innings and earned his first career win.

Charleston fans are having a slight meltdown on their board, wondering how they managed to lose to a team that was 9-24 (Hofstra) coming into this series.

On any given day....... Our team has struggled all year. Its all about pitching in this league. You are not going to win many games 10-8. Northeastern the only team north of us have been competitive in the CAA because it seems every year they get very good pitchers to come play ball in Boston.

We take game two from Charleston 3-1 to clinch the series! Another freshman pitcher with the win, as John Rooney went the distance.
