ESPN says both worse seeds (Hofstra and Northeastern) are favored by 2.5.

What's worse: Kone's inability to score the winning basket in regulation or Gustys' inability to make a free throw at the end of 1OT?

There's still 8.3 seconds left here. It better not be Kone's inability to hit a foul shot...

Son of a bitch... F'ing FTs - and it was the seniors who blew it - could've and should've won in regulation

Proud of them but WAY too many simple mistakes and missed easy baskets - they really should've won - won't get on Gustys as a frosh, but tough to swallow when your seniors miss FTs in the biggest game of the yr

Heartbreaking

Someone once told me that free throws aren't important.

Hofstra has made 296 three-pointers this season, which the second most in CAA History behind the 2010-2011 Virginia Commonwealth Final Four team that played 40 games (Hofstra has played 33). William & Mary has made 24 fewer than Hofstra this season, so they could pass Hofstra soon.

Edit: Green finished with 200 free throws made which is tied for sixth in CAA history (David Robinson appears twice ahead of him). The CAA record is 215 by Petey Sessoms of Old Dominion in 1994-1995. The most free throws made in a season from 1995-1996 on is 201 by Jerrelle Benimon last season.

Great effort from the team. Came down to execution and free throws. Should have won and this will sting for a while but they shouldn't hang their heads after this one.

Cactus I agree and I will start a thread soon about the team outlook for next year. HH it was Jack Styzenski (aka Gen. Hoffenmueller) who said free throw were not important . Had many spirited discussion on this board with him. They are monumental down the stretch in game that are tight.

I think it was the same guy on the old board who said Hofstra would never win a CAA title.

Well, FT's may have very well cost HU a CAA title today.

Yup, that's who I meant by "someone." ;)

Well, Stony Brook is in the finals yet again this year. But they have yet to reach the NCAA tourney and no guarantee they will again, against top-seeded Albany next week.

I'll take the opportunity HU had in the CAA every time. Been sitting courtside the past two days and was in the same seat last year, and I can tell you first hand, the environment for last year's title game and today's HU-W&M game was all you could ask for in a March Madness experience. There's no way anyone can say HU wasn't capable of winning a CAA title this year, as close as they came, even as a five seed. Stony Brook has been seeded higher, and has even had the title game on its home floor twice recently, and has as many NCAA titles as HU does over that time.

Saying we should have stayed in the America East makes as much sense as saying free throws don't matter in a game like HU lost today.

Until SBU actually beats Albany cant give them props. They have been to the championship game three years now and crapped the bed each time. Now I think coach Pickell is a good coach but he has had better teams with more talent come up short. If they do win it this year I am sure we will here from Newsdays Steve Marcus on how Hofstra leaving the America east was a bad idea.

Any chance we would do the CBI or CIT? Obviously the NCAA or even the NIT would've been more ideal, but those aren't happening.

Either CBI or CIT would be OK. Hopefully the school pays to host so we can give Kone and Nesmith an encore sendoff. Also would be good for the younger players to experience post season.

I'm not big on those tourneys, but Kone and Nesmith played their hearts out in this CAA tournament and many other times this year. They deserve another game (or more) with their teammates and coaching staff. Maybe for that reason alone, I'd be all for it and hope HU plays in one of those tourneys.
