This news caught me by surprise given the timing and how much she loves coaching. While only one NCAA Tournament in her 14 seasons as head coach, I applaud Shannon for leading the program to success on and off the field and wish her much success in the private sector. As for a replacement, tough timing to do all-out search so perhaps defensive assistant coach Greg Miceli, who previously ran defense at Stony Brook, could be a pragmatic choice given the circumstances.

That's a really rough run - hard to call that successful, but I know this isn't a primary sport for us and SBU actually owns it on the island.

I would absolutely promote the Assistant and be done with it. Not saying to ignore the program, want to respect the kids for sure, but unfortunately this just isn't something we can or even should put a lot of $ into.

Only one assistant on staff now in Greg Miceli who coaches defense and was previously at Stony Brook so he could be possibility. I would love though if they could hire Stony Brook's associate head coach and offensive coordinator, Sydney Pirreca, who was a standout at Florida and Mount Sinai so she knows Long Island wlax scene well https://stonybrookathletics.com/sports/ ... rreca/1547

Spot on. Pirreca should be very high on the list.

Sydney would be a home-run hire, very well-known and highly respected, especially on the Island. HU recruiting would explode IMO and she would elevate this program immediately. Not sure if she would take it, or if SBU would 'let' her go without HU making an offer that's impossible to refuse, but it would certainly be worth a try.

I just don't want any over-investing in anything other than hoops for the next couple of years.

We have our coach in former Syracuse star Nicole Levy who has spent the last eight years as an offensive coordinator at Colorado, Florida and Syracuse. She also has Long Island ties as a standout at East Islip High School and was a teammate of former Hofstra standout Alexa Matterra there. She checks a lot of boxes and on paper this is a home run hire, especially given the timing of the search so late in the summer.

Fantastic sounds like a solid hire to me, esp considering the timing - respectfully, this isn't the most important sport to me or in today's landscape, so I want to keep the investment reasonable to focus on hoops - she sounds like a very good fit, and can hopefully bring some good energy, local recruiting, and success to the program.

Am even more excited about the hire after seeing this awesome miced up of Coach Levy copied above leading her first practice. She has a great way of connecting with players to go along with her strong lacrosse knowledge.

Another solid hire with Long Island ties (Northport).
