Congratulations to Speedy, the MBB staff and our players on achieving what many people have been waiting for -- a trip to the NCAAT!
The next few days and next week will be very exciting, with many predictions concerning who we will play, when and where.
So feel free to post your NCAAT-related comments here, if you like.
*****
Over the next couple of weeks, Hofstra should receive lots of free publicity (the best kind) on television, sports radio, newspapers, and social media -- all of which benefits the university and our basketball program, and creates interest among prospective recruits, transfers, fans, and donors.
In addition to publicity, the NCAAT generates money for Division I schools.
Each NCAAT game is a "unit" worth about $2 million. Schools receive one unit for each game they play.
However, schools do not receive that money directly from the tournament. Instead, the money goes to the athletic conferences, which distribute it to the schools in the conference.
So the more games you win and/or the more teams conferences have in the tournament, the more money conferences receive. That's why all the big conferences want to minimize participation by smaller programs.
*****
One common formula for sharing NCAAT money goes like this:
All teams in a conference receive 60% of each unit (worth $2 million) and 40% goes to schools based upon how their teams performed during the regular season and conference playoffs. The money is paid out over six years. I do not know what happens to these payouts when schools leave or join a conference.
So if we play one game, the CAA will receive about $333,333 per year for six years. That amounts to an average of $25,641 for each of our 13 schools annually. As tournament champions, we should receive a bit more than other CAA schools.

Nice article Jojo thanks for doing the research. Probably our biggest benefit will be the aforementioned publicity that we will receive from varying media sources. This will help sustain our goals from one season to the next so hopefully we'll be in the mix to dance again REAL SOON!! We'll see how our recruiting is affected from the tourney appearance!

Now that you get over half a week of speculation, are you a 13 or can you sneak up to a 12 seed? What teams on the 4 line are you wanting or wanting to avoid? Looks like location options are San Diego, Portland, Philadelphia, Tampa. If you somehow drop to a 14 seed your location options become Greenville, St Louis, Oklahoma City or Portland

Also, our coach speedy Claxton has connections and I believe he still owns a home in Philadelphia

We're already getting the benefits of winning. We were on Channel 7 Eyewitness News for preston's shot vs. Towson and I'm sure many other outlets for that shot. Newsday actually ran a full story on their esports feed this morning.
More to come!

I think they probably give us a 14 seed, especially since we didn't have to play either of the top 2 teams in the CAA tournament to get here. With that being said, anyone know if there will be a viewing party Sunday night at the Mack? If we can host a presidential debate there we can figure out a good screenshot for CBS to show on the selection show.

I'm all in
Then, after that, we should have a meet and greet with the team and congratulate them
There are a lot of fans that couldn't make the trip

The committee won't look at not playing the top 2 seeds in the conference tournament. They'll likely get a 14 seed because they finished third in the league. UNCW might've been rewarded with a 13 seed as both regular-season and conference tourney champs. Also, their strong Kenpom, NET, and other rankings could help them. But the committee will mainly look at the strength of the league, the league's ranking, that Hofstra did not win the regular season title, and mainly base their seeding on that.
A Mack viewing party would be great! I would be there.

Right, I tweeted at the Hof MBB page to see if it can happen. Start it at 2/3 PM, make a day out of it, if anyone has the gym to host events it's us. Especially after what happened in 2020.

Joe Lunardi moved us up to the 13 line after last night. He now has us traveling all the way out to San Diego... but getting to face Kansas and potential #1 pick Darryn Peterson. How fun would that be?!

The Athletic has HU as a #13 versus #4 Virginia in San Diego.

Man I keep thinking what if they put us against St. John's. SJ may have to win the Big East to get a 4 seed but they're capable. The distance between the schools, Cruz Davis vs. his former team, the local attention that would garner, etc. Pitino being from Nassau and Speedy having gone to high school in Queens, Silas Sunday played for Rick also, storylines are endless.

The NCAA likes to put together interesting matchups. The last two appearances UNCW played Duke and Virginia. Hofstra would be a good Big East opponent for the sake of TV ratings. Who might fit that bill?

I desperately want to go but I don't think I'll go to San Diego...In Philly against St John's would be PERFECT!

Philly is also Fri-Sun which is good if you work full time and only want to miss one day. Man I remember St. John's - Omaha generating a lot of attention locally last year. Maybe it was the novelty of SJ finally being good but an HU-SJ matchup would be real big in the tri state, I have mixed feeling about it though.

Based solely on NET we are a solid 13 right now. Depending on upsets in other tournaments (WAC, Ivy, MAC, AAC and A10) we have an outside shot at a 12 seed.

In the WAC, Utah Valley is the only team with a better NET than us. They start in the Semifinals on Friday.
The Ivy has a four team tournament. Yale is the only team with a better NET than us.
In the MAC, Miami (Ohio) will probably get a better seed than us even if they do not win the MAC Tournament, and I will be mad if a team with 1 loss (they are undefeated now) gets left out. Akron would get a better seed than us, and everybody else would get a worse seed than us. We want anybody other than Akron.
In the AAC, South Florida, Tulsa, and Wichita State have a better NET than us.
In the A10, Saint Louis is a lock with a better seed than us. VCU will get a better seed than us or miss the tournament, and they are on the bubble. Dayton would get a better seed than us if they win the A10 Tournament. George Mason and George Washington are close enough to us that they would probably get a better seed than us if they win the A10 Tournament. If somebody other than those five wins, we could get a better seed than the A10 Tournament winner.
The MAC is the only one of those conferences that is worse than the CAA.
I will be happy with a 13 seed. I think our NET would be unusually bad for a 12.

Current projected 12's on ESPN: South Florida (48), High Point (74), UNI (71) and Yale (65). You are 88. Solidly a 13 (might even be the top 13), 12 would need some help, I agree. Maybe the CAA gets a nod over High Point even with lower metrics
