MBB Game 33 vs. Towson, March 9 (Mon) 8:30 PM

After a very physical game against W&M, we advance to the semifinal round to face Towson.

The Tigers upset #2 Charleston, 81-56, in the quarterfinals. Tyler Tejada, last year's CAA POTY, is on a tear. He scored 35 points against Hampton on Saturday and 30 points against Charleston on Sunday.

The CBS Sports Network will carry both semifinal games and Tuesday's championship. It's a shame that Saturday and Sundays games were not on a national cable network.

Tejada may be on a tear but he won't beat us by himself and we have throttled their guard Williamson who scored 4 in the 1st game and 3 in the second. Stopping him again in this game I think will be the key. We probably wont shut him down again but need to keep him from having a huge game along with Tejada. I really like this matchup for us!

I think it'll be different this time, but we saw what happened three years ago:

94-46 over William & Mary in the quarterfinals only to lose to UNCW in the semis.
So now, 92-61 over William & Mary in the quarterfinals, and TBD...

Watched most of the Towson game. Tejada was on fire, throwing up some crazy shots! Was fun to watch the BIG TWO in the League go down. I guess their NIL money can't buy a championship; not this year!

I think this will be a tough hard fought game but our superior guards will prevail and Towson has to be a little weary after two games in two nights.

Definitely more confident going into this game than last night, but would fully expect this to be much closer than last night and last time we played Towson.

Think a fast start is critical tonight. Our best should still be better than Towson's best, but as well as they are playing now last thing we wanna do is let them hang around with their confidence swelling.

If Hofstra can jump on them early hopefully doubt, fatigue, and law of averages kick in and finish Towson off. Need to match their physicality and win the boards again.

We're not going to choke in this one we're locked in playing very good D and even when we had to sit Preston we didn't miss a beat. There are just too many options for other teams to defend. The game of basketball can have different results in any two games but we have to beat them for a third time. In 2020 we beat Drexel twice during the regular season and beat them the third time in the tourney. This will be similar except it will be a closer game I believe.

It would be nice to be on TV, but the CAA doesn't deserve those games to be on national TV. Furthermore, the weekend was competing with some Finals and Semifinals, and the top conferences finishing their regular season. Tonight and tomorrow are competing with the worst teams in top conferences for attention, along with Gonzaga (the Semifinal with Saint Mary's and tomorrow's Final are after the CAA). The CAA Quarterfinals used to be on a chain of Comcast regional networks. It would be nice to be on NBC Sports Boston, SNY, NBC Sports Philadelphia, Monumental (formerly NBC Sports Washington) or MASN, and channels farther south for UNCW and Charleston.

ESPN says we are favored by 3.5. KenPom expects us to win 69-63 with a 63 percent chance of winning.

Holy cow. Big matchup. The path is open for you guys. Best of luck tonight!

Crazy to see both top seeds exit in the QF with blowouts. At this point Hofstra winning it all would be the best outcome for the conference!

I'll be watching!

Can not let up or take anything for granted. The keys in the W&M win for me was the high energy from the tip to the final whistle, the total team effort, and the POY finally woke up at this crucial time. It's always a little harder to beat the same team 3 times, so we will need the same output in every game to pull this out.

German really set the tone last night, showed real leadership, and we need similar from him or someone else tonight. Toughness, energy, aggressive defense, those things matter big time in these settings. Don't want to see us get too 3 happy - this has been the kiss of death for many a team, including HU. If the shots aren't falling adjust quickly and apply a different approach to help bridge the gap until the shots eventually settle in.

Tejada has been on fire, but I agree that the 3rd game in a row may start to wear a bit. I say go at him hard in the paint to perhaps help speed up that process. We'll need a huge game from DeCady on both ends of the floor, a chance for Cruz to show consistency that game 1 wasn't a flash, and perhaps Edmead arrives with a bounce back performance to make a bigger impact tonight.

1-0 mentality. Go in with a PURPOSE, stay DISCIPLINED, and OUTWORK them for win #2. Let's Roll

https://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/202 ... ament.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Towson (CAA Tournament semifinals)." Yesterday we had the fifth largest margin of victory in CAA Tournament history. We have the largest margin of victory, and the third largest margin of defeat. It was the second time this season that we had two players make at least five threes. The previous time was Edmead and Roberts, so the two times combined to have four players. Edmead and Roberts makes me wonder how many teams have had two freshmen make at least 5 threes in the same game. Patterson's four double-doubles as a sub are the most by one of our subs since Halil Kanacevic had four in 2009-2010.

Davis broke a tie with Ameen Tanksley and passed Richie Swartz for 36th with 1,120 points. He has 8 fewer than Mike Moore (who led the CAA with 19.9 points in 2011-2012, which was the first season after Charles Jenkins), 11 fewer than Wandy Williams, and 19 fewer than Nathaniel Lester.

It is our first CAA Tournament game against Towson since 2008. Since then, we played 13 teams in the CAA Tournament, including Delaware 7 times.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/sc ... /2026.html has Towson's statistics.

https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=652817 will have statistics.

Pride getting killed on the boards. Defense has been fine but can't keep giving Towson 2nd and 3rd chances.

Also can CBS not find better announcers? Can someone tell them Speedy played for Jay Wright, not Tom Pecora

Thank goodness Cruz got something before the end of the half. We saw it with Stony and Drexel... good defenses can shut down our offense, and lately Cruz. And Towson is a full level above both those teams.

Also have a catch 22 here with DeCady and Biggie. Cant afford to take DeCady off Tejada for a second, but having him out there really hurts the spacing against a defense this good that can afford to ignore him.

Feel fortunate to only be down 1. Cruz gotta get going

Absolutely poor half, and the POY is once again absent for an entire half save 1 at the very end. Exactly why I said to cool it with all that tough sarcastic talk about him and the margin of victory. Yesterday means squat if they don't get it together tonight. A lot of very discouraging signs here, this has the makings of a typical HU choke job. Very uninspiring halftime interview with whatever assist coach that was. Thinks everythings fine lol.

Speedy getting beat at his own game on defense, and getting rocked on the offensive boards giving them 2nd chance points. Not attacking the basket enough either to get to the line. DeCady playing tough, but he's not going to be enough.

Staff better smack some sense into the team and themselves and make some major adjustments, and Cruz better wake the hell up and quit getting shown up by Tejada. Not encouraged at all. We have zero momentum.

I suppose the only thing positive is it's only a 1 point game...?

Getting crushed on the defensive boards. Too many second, and even third chances for Towson. Cruz needs to drive the ball strong. Hofstra going to the rack weak tonight. Cant be chucking shots up. Go up strong. Finish this half strong, lets cut nets tomorrow. cmon..

It might feel like we're getting killed on the boards, but we're actually winning rebounding battle by 2 and 2nd chance pts 11-6. -5 pts off turnovers and -4 on FTs (0 attempts!) making the difference
