As if it wasn't tough enough to win this game, with W&M coming off a home win over UNCW and Hofstra having a 3 1/2-hour bus ride from NC A&T to W&M, coming off a stunning loss at NC A&T, it's now a really short turnaround as well. We'll see what they're made of.
Oh, and on top of that, W&M plays at one of the fastest if not the fastest (still) paces in the nation. Just what you don't want with a short turnaround.

Maybe W&M will be fat and happy after their big win and take us lightly after our pathetic loss last night.

I wouldn't count on that. They're 8-0 (4-0 CAA) at home. I think they'll be ready. It's going to take a very good effort, and even then it'll be a tough challenge to get this one. ESPN giving them a 57.9% chance to win and the earlier start time only helps them and hurts us.

Based on starting lineup looks like no German again. Bummer.
Need Victory engaged and on the court today. All of the W&M bigs can shoot, will get eaten alive if Sunday has to try to chase them out of the paint on defense all day

Ethan Connery, who is on W&M's roster but has not played, went to St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, which was on TV when it had LeBron James, who did not go to college.
https://www.flohoops.com/live/214582 has video.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/sc ... /2026.html has W&M's statistics. They have used thirteen players. Nine players are averaging at least 17.5 minutes and played in at least 17 of 19 games. They had four players start every game, and one player start every game except for three. Their players other than those five have 40.2 percent of their points. Our players other than our five most common starters have 26.0 percent of their points.
Our SOS is 135th according to Warren Nolan that has the NET and RPI, 138th according to KenPom, and 211th according to Sports-Reference.

Won't keep this lead for long if we dont start grabbing defense rebounds. Need to keep the pace to a crawl, don't try to speed up and run past their press, it's exactly what they want and we're terrible executing in transition anyway. Brockoff also getting repeated wide open 3s with Sunday in the game as I feared

I think I’ve seen enough of Patterson.

So to me the 3 things team was doing earlier in the year that were pleasantly surprising and had me believing this could be a special season?
1. They played tough engaged defense
2. They rebounded
3. They didnt settle for chucking deep 3s
So how'd we do in those areas that half?
1. On pace to allow 84 points
2. Gave up 14 offensive rebounds
3. 19 of the 34 shots were 3s (and very few were quality open not rushed looks because of good ball moment/spacing)
I get it German is a big loss, even with Reaves having his best half of the season. And Biggie is still beyond rusty. But these are systemic issues and frightening regression from the team as a whole thats causing this skid

To DutchPride86, Do you think this complete switch in the team's performance can be caused by fatigue? My Dad quoted the Mike Tyson line "Every opponent has a plan until they get hit in the mouth."

Great question. Its just when you know before a game even starts we're gonna get destroyed by their bigs shooting 3s because Speedy's teams haven't defended bigs shooting 3s in 5 years, and then thats EXACTLY what happens....
Coaching lets the kids down, kids lose confidence, it all spirals. I dunno how to fix it

Shadow you know where I am seeing the fatigue now... Cruz. Not finishing at the rim, the 1 legged fadeaway on all his 2s. Who would have thought playing a kid literally over 40 min a game in conference play wouldnt eventually catch up with him?

The announcer misspoke and said Patterson had almost 1500 points at Iona… he had 142.

Such a frustratingly predictable game today across the board.
I'm going to end my ranting for the day with a 2 part question for everyone...
When was the last time you watched Hofstra play a CONFERENCE game and came away thinking man coaches whipped up a great gameplan to beat the opponent? Or is it only so and so was awesome today individually when we win?

I mean it’s a lost year, decent chance our next win is Feb 19th, or later, or next year.
Cruz has played all but one minute since the Columbia game, we’re running him into the ground for what reason. Nothing this staff does with their personnel makes sense to me, I would imagine the players feel similarly.
