Stony Brook (9-8) is reeling. Only 1-3 in league play, the Seawolves scored just 37 points at Drexel yesterday (1/8/25) and host #1 UNCW (15-2, 4-0) tomorrow (1/10/25).
Erik Pratt, a transfer from Milwaukee who started out at Texas A&M, leads Stony Brook with 18 ppg. Rob Brown III, a transfer from Nicholls State, adds 10 ppg.
Before our game next Thursday, there will be a pregame meet-up at The Bench (thebenchbar.com) starting at 5 pm. Sign up by Wednesday (1/14/26) to RSVP for the meet-up and register for free tickets at gohofstra.com/MBB/SB.
SNY (SBU's cable channel), FloCollege and WRHU (HAWC) will carry the game.

More then almost any game during the year clearly for bragging rights on Long Island want this game in a big way and I know I'm not alone. We need to reassert our dominance against the Seawolves who have been trying to balance their won loss record against us but have a long way to go.

Thanks for posting JoJo. Stony Brook's boards are great, enjoy visiting them and they do a good job of posting unbiased, in depth previews.

ESPN: Hofstra, 77%.
Hofstra can't afford to overlook any team, but with the Pride up and the Seawolves down right now, this is a great chance to reassert dominance over our Long Island rivals, especially with the advantages HU has in the backcourt with Davis and Edmead, and with Hofstra being a significantly better rebounding team. If they crash the boards, play focused and connected D, and Davis & Edmead do their usual thing offensively, they should really win this one by 12-15 or more. Stony Brook will be scrappy and up for this one though, and that could keep it much closer, especially if the Stony Brook team that appeared in the first half against UNCW on Saturday shows up in this one.
Hofstra won 23 of the first 28 meetings, but has lost the last three (getting swept last year and losing in the CAA semis the year before).
Since a 21-point Hofstra home win in Feb. 2023, the last six have all been close (Hofstra won at SBU by 3 and by 6, and at home, by 1 on that one-footed buzzer-beater from Tyler Thomas; Stony Brook then won that CAA semis game by 4, and last year's sweep was by 5 and 3). This "should" be the year Hofstra gets back to what we were accustomed to in the past in this series, with a couple of relatively easy wins against SBU this season, but we'll see.
Also, I think I say this every year, and although I'm normally a traditionalist with uniforms, it might be fun once a year or every other year to have alternate uniforms that say NASSAU and SUFFOLK for this matchup.

On paper we should win comfortably but this is becoming a real rivalry and we can't forget losing to them THREE TIMES. Hope Speedy hammers that home and we come out with FIRE!

ESPN has us as 7.5 point favorites. Lets not let SB hang around in this one. We don't need a one possession game at the end!

German had a ROUGH half. Need better ball in the 2nd half overall. Offense was stagnant. Had no flow at all.

THIS IS EMBARRASSING so far!

Well that was pathetic. Cruz total no show and German can't buy a bucket.
Now to both compliment and criticize Speedy. Well done identifying he had to get DeCady off the floor, Stony would not guard him, he wasnt doing anything, and offense was a disaster while he was in there. And credit Speedy for going to Wills, kid is playing great right now hes earned his minutes.
But at the same time, with how poorly Cruz and German played you couldnt get either off the court to give Roberts a single minute that half?! Maybe he knocks down a 3 gives them a spark.
Team obviously misses Biggie, esp on the offensive end. But no reason to shrink the rotation to 7 guys without him
The one saving grace... remember Stony jumped up 20+ on Uncw last game and blew it. Only thing we can hang our hat on right now

Wills starts the 2nd half over DeCady. When was the last time Speedy didnt go back to his starting lineup for 2nd half without an injury? Cant remember any instance

Monmouth down 51-23 at home to Drexel!?!?! I know they've had 4 days off but maybe that game last Saturday took more out of both teams than you'd think

Got jumped. Hofstra just did not look good today. Maybe this loss will spark them moving forward, but this was just a putrid effort on Hofstra end. I dont understand how Roberts didnt get into the game for speed, and I dont understand how Plotnikov played the entire game?
