MBB Game 12 @Syracuse, Dec. 13 (Sat) 4 PM

This will be the third time Hofstra has faced Syracuse. The Orange won both the 2001 and 2006 meetings.
Syracuse is not the Top 20 power that it has been in the past. KenPom ranks the Orange 65th after losses to Houston, Kansas and Iowa State, and a 2-point win over Tennessee. Nevertheless, they will give us all we can handle.
Here's a recent assessment of Syracuse's team:
https://dailyorange.com/2025/12/syracus ... g-stretch/
The ACC TV Network and WRHU (HAWC) will carry the game.

Speedy should post this on the board in the Hofstra locker room and make sure every Hofstra player is motivated by it:
"
The Orange host four lowly nonconference opponents from Dec. 11-22."
Mercyhurst, Northeastern, and Stonehill are the other three. They also meant Dec. 13-22 because they play St. Joseph's on Dec. 11 and don't host them.

Big talk from a team that hasn't made the ncaas in 5 years, and has basically been in a nosedive since Boeheim left

If Hofstra wins that game after beating Pitt, they could flip Syracuse's statement and say they "beat another lowly ACC team on the road."

Still need to get tickets but I'll be in attendance, tying it around picking my son up from college. Hopefully they come out hot again and put a scare into an overconfident Syracuse team.

In fairness, that was just the school paper/blog that dismissed Hofstra as a "lowly" non-conference opponent, but let's hope their team is just as overconfident. Enjoy the game up there and the visit with your son!

In addition to 2001 and 2006, we lost to them on December 30, 2004. Our best regular season was in 2005-2006, and I wonder if we could have beaten Syracuse then. We lost to Syracuse the season before and the season after.

We played in the Carrier Classic at Syracuse in the late 70's. Not sure if we played the Orange in the tournament though....I'm sure someone can check.

We lost to Illinois State and won at Le Moyne in the 1979 Carrier Classic, where we did not play Syracuse. Le Moyne is now in their third season in Division I.
https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/12/11/m ... c-win.aspx is our preview titled "Pride Takes On Syracuse As Hofstra Seeks Another ACC Win." We wrote that Syracuse has not played since December 2, which is true, but they host St. Joseph's tonight at 9:00 P.M.

Terrific start on the boards. Victory came to play today.
Cuse definitely did their homework... completely ignoring DeCady in the left corner. Should get Biggie in sooner than later

Good game. Nice adjustment by Speedy going zone. Cuse isnt a great shooting team that seemed to cool them off a little.
Too much 1 on 1 on offense on our end. German and Biggie sitting wide open in the corners gotta move the ball quicker and limit the turnovers in the 2nd half.
I dont think Jaeden is gonna find himself out of the rotation again anytime soon. What a half for him

Team really has some fight this year. Getting testy.
Feel like Cuse starting to figure out the zone but after start Starling got off too dunno if Speedy is gonna want to come out of it

Might have spoke too soon on the zone as we take the lead and timeout Cuse off back to back turnovers!

What a win. This team is gelling at perfect time and not lacking any confidence. Speedy hitting stride headed into conference play. So nice have legit big men paired with some serious guard play.

Been saying it for the past three seasons... get German Plotnikov more shots!
Besides the game-winner today (great composure when he had nowhere to go, and great find under pressure from Davis for his ninth assist; nearly a double-double), Getman hit two 3s and had a tough tip-in at Pittsburgh to help get it back to 10 after Pitt got it from 17 to 3. Get that man more shots!
And, needs to be said... there was a lot of doubt here with Speedy last year (maybe some of it fair to call into question) but he has done a very good job this year with gelling new and old pieces (including a freshman starting PG), he has reeled in his guys (taking the right 3s this year, but just giving the blind green light and taking too many 3s), he has them connected and playing good defense, he has them fighting hard throughout the game, every game, and his own competitiveness has been reflected in his players and in hiw they approach and play the game. Long way to go, and we'll see how Quinnipiac and CAA play go, but to this point in the season, he deserves his flowers and the praise now should be as loud as the criticism was before.

1. Where is everybody 2 ACC wins in a week its time to get excited about this team!
2. If people werent watching, yes the officiating was a disaster down the stretch. And our full court press breaking execution was as well. But dont let that take away from how well Hofstra played. One of better coaching jobs by Speedy period. Switching to the zone completely changed the game. The better team on the floor won tonight
These kids fight. Role players make shots. And Cruz continues to separate. Best player on the court against 2 ACC teams.
Now gotta beat Quinnipiac to put the cherry on top of the non conference. We can absolutely be back in the top 4 with a bye in conference this year. (Wont say SHOULD be cause the conference is a lot better top to bottom)
Congrats to Speedy, the staff and the kids. Great win!
