We opened with an 83-48 loss at Miami. Today we won 73-66 at Yale. https://gohofstra.com/sports/womens-bas ... core/13917 is the box score. Sandra Magolico had 25 points and 13 rebounds. We did not write a recap yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0YSRixNhug is highlights.

Just back from the game. Neither team very good, but Magolico, a transfer from SMU, is a beast. IMO, a big improvement over Swint. Dutch still playing without Chloe Sterling, last year's starting PG who was injured late in the season.

Team is more athletic
Hoping when Sterling comes back, the turnovers will decrease
Emma needs to stay out of foul trouble
She still is not shooting well 30% overall and 20% from beyond the arc

Early yet never worry about Emma she’s a 3 point machine and her game has evolved by necessity inside the arc. Magolico the real surprise teams will have to double team her opening up good looks for our guards.

Having said all this we played Penn in our home opener still playing without Chloe Sterling our leading scorer from last year. Based on a conversation with the coach it seems as if Chloe is close to getting back on the floor. Without Sterling and Magolico who got injured in the win over Yale in our second game we played tough but didn't have enough to beat Penn falling 73-66. This team is competitive and with a full healthy squad we could be tough to beat. We landed 4 early signings picking up three kids 6' or better and one 5'7 guard. All these kids have decent resumes from H.S.

Not my favorite HU sport, it's just been so unwatchable for so long, but that really does look like a strong class - hope they can find better days ahead.

So went to the women's game today with Stu and we watched what I would consider the worst half of Hofstra women's basketball I had ever seen and I've seen a lot of their games live and on Flo. At times we were down by 17 points in the first half we couldn't do anything right between fouls and unforced turnovers. It was ugly we went into the second half down by 14 points and although we outscored Bucknell in the second half and got within two our awful FT shooting down the stretch and missing easy layups finally proved to be our undoing. Many chances at the end to take the lead or to tie but we didn't make it happen. Emma only scored 2 points in this game and that was our first two points. I give credit to Bucknell for totally shutting down our outside perimeter game as we shot 2 of 10. Also shot 17/28 from the FT line which hurt us down the stretch. Bucknell shot 9/28 from three and we out rebounded them 37/20. Our use of a zone defense killed us at they got too may open looks. They played man to man and smothered us the entire game. A lot of work to do as we still wait for Chloe Sterling to get back on the court! We lost 61-55.

Was on ESPN scrolling through and saw that we lost to Maryland 95-38. Holy smokes that’s impressive

Hofstra posted a YouTube thumbnail of being down 65-19. Maryland scored more points off turnovers than we scored total. We only attempted 111 points of shots. To compare, last season we averaged 151 points of shots per game. Points of shots is how much we would have scored if every shot including free throws went in.

It was in Puerto Rico, and we play East Carolina in Puerto Rico tomorrow. East Carolina is 3-4, and 265th in the RPI. They started the season with an 82-63 win hosting UNCW. They lost at Liberty, at High Point, and hosting Old Dominion.

Today was much closer than yesterday, but still not close, as we lost to East Carolina 72-53. We trailed 25-12 after the first quarter. Alarice Gooden led us with 10 points, which is a low percentage of a team's points from their leading scorer.

I didn’t see the game but perplexed at the slow start for Emma who only played 10 minutes and had 5 points. This leads me to believe either she’s sick or injured. I know the coach is major disappointed at how this team is playing so far and she must be counting the days until Sterling gets back on the court and Magolico is 100%.

So we played D3 Marywood(??????) last night and of course beat up on a D3 team winning 80-44. Emma still shooting three's poorly hit 1-9 and finished with 11 points. 15 for Karim, 11 for Sterling who's playing only her second game this year and 10 for Gooden. IDK why we played this game are we trying to boost our confidence level. We haven't been able to beat any D1 teams except for Yale in the second game of the year and lost to Miami by near 40 and Maryland by almost 60. Our next game is against St John's and that could be another ugly loss! This team is very disappointing and based on a discussion I had with Danielle she expected much better results then what she's seeing but they have played with a lot of injuries!

I have been a very vocal critic of our womens team
I must admit they played their hearts out and gave StJohns all they could handle
They played their best game of the season
Kudos to the players and coaches for a well playrd and coached game

Agree Stu but I just thought it was a bit weird when I watched the beginning of the post presser and coach Atkinson has a huge smile on her face so I thought incredible we beat St Johns only to find out we made it close so I guess in this context there's reason to be elated!!!

So today our women play at Kentucky
its probably about a 40 point spread
The big mismatch is at center
their center Strack is 6ft5 and very skilled
they have a few 6ft and taller guards
final score 85-45

85-45 is your predicted score Stu? Probably not far from the truth!

ESPN is giving us a 1% chance to win this game and that's major generous of them!
