Coach Nuttall announced that this will be his last season, and Coach Roche is set to step in as the next head coach. Let’s go and win another championship to end the legacy in a high note!

What an amazing run! 36 years as head coach. Nuttall and Bill Edwards should be on the Mt. Rushmore of Hofstra head coaches.
The release said he will stay on in some kind of advsory and fund-raising capacity.

I can not think of any coach in Hofstra’s history that has achieved what Coach Nuttall has done. He took a program that had languished for years and turned it into a Top 25 caliber team which improved every year over a 30+ year run. Beyond his W-L record is a very classy and warm hearted person who really cares. On a personal note, I played for Hofstra well before Coach Nuttall came aboard, but he has always made me feel as part of the soccer family. Hopefully Hofstra recognizes what a special coach they had. A fitting tribute would be name the field in his honor.

The only coach that compares to Richard is Bill Edwards our Hall of Fame coach?
He still holds the record for most consecutive conference championships 10 years straight
That span the American East and colonial
I remember sitting with Richard and he said I just want to remind you that I was hired six months before Bill Edwards came to Hofstra
To which I replied, I'm sure there isn't a day that goes by. We don't remind him of it.
We both had a good laugh
Everything you said about Richard is true just a great human being
I remember passing his office one time and he shouted out to me "Lad come here for a moment"
I said to him, Richard, I have not been called lad for over 45 years

CAA head coaches chose Hofstra and Elon to win the league's North and South Divisions this year.

The coaches also named Hofstra midfielder Laurie Goddard CAA Preseason Player of the Year, while defender Gabriel Pacheco received honorable mention:

Nationally, Hofstra is ranked 23rd and Elon is not ranked, though the Phoenix do have three players on the CAA preseason team:

It lists every team as starting where they ended last season. Vermont is first, and I doubt they are expected to be the best team. There are only 8 voters, so it is a small sample size compared to 32 coaches in Men's or Women's Basketball and more than that for AP Polls for those sports.

We won 1-0 hosting Loyola Maryland. Pablo Hempelmann-Perez scored his first goal at 40:11. We had more shots 10 to 5, and more shots on goal 3 to 2. Loyola Maryland got four yellow cards, and we did not get any. https://gohofstra.com/sports/mens-socce ... core/13743 is the box score. The attendance was 189. We did not write a recap yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RGvB17aTsA is highlights.

Starting tomorrow, my soccer focus will be on national teams, including World Cup Qualifiers for World Cup 2026 that will be mostly in the USA.

Edit: https://gohofstra.com/news/2025/10/7/me ... t-win.aspx is titled "Hofstra Gets Past Loyola Maryland For Fourth Straight Win." We are 8-4-0. Loyola Maryland fell to 2-8-1, so the win was not impressive. On Saturday we go to Stony Brook.
