Our men will try to right the ship this Thursday when they travel down to Virginia to play another new CAA team, the Hampton Pirates.

Like NC A&T, Hampton is an HBCU school and was a member of the Big South Conference before joining the CAA.

The 3-11 Pirates have taken their lumps so far this season, losing by an average of 10.7 ppg. In their last two games, they lost to Charleston by 28 and UNCW by 17. They played a challenging OOC schedule that included Georgia and Wake Forest.

Jordan Nesbitt (#5) and Marquis Godwin (#00) lead Hampton in scoring with 15 and 13 ppg, respectively.

The game is on FloHoops.

This is another very important game and weekend for us. We need to hold serve against the weaker teams in the CAA and prove that we are a contender this season.

We cannot survive another debacle like the A&T game.

I am pretty sure that Marquis Godwin was a high school teammate of Jalen Ray.
If Jalen Ray gave us one more season, he would be having a hometown game here on Thursday.

Jalen Ray I remember that guy seems like he was here forever, lol. That's good info. Captain.

Not going to be easy given the inconsistency we've seen from HU this season, but to make up for the NC A&T loss, they really need to beat Hampton handily and get a comfortable double-digit win at W&M. That would kind of put them back on track in CAA play because the solid win at Delaware was promising, an easy win at Hampton is what they should do (even on the road) and then going in, we could have understood an easy home win over NC A&T and a very close, late loss at W&M (as we saw last year and in other past years down there) - doing the opposite, getting fairly easy win at W&M after the close loss to NC A&T would be like flip flopping those two and sort of put them back on track.

Agree Wags, just don't have much confidence in this team's ability to tough out wins. We've been up and down all year so far.

We should be worried about every game until this team proves otherwise. Hofstra has a history of playing down to opponents.

NC A&T was 267

I'm with you here jojo Hofstra does play down to opponents but not tomorrow. We win this game easily with a motivated bunch who felt embarrassed after the loss to NC A&T. One thing for sure is that we have to improve our rebounding this is our Achilles heal right now.

NC A&T is 267 (and that was at home) so, yes. They SHOULD win this game by 20+ points but until they do...

No game is a layup in D1 basketball and especially CAA.

Guess Vegas still beleives in us. We're 10,5 point favs, and ESPN gives us an 82% chance of winning.

That might be by default, severe lack of faith in Hampton.

http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2023 ... mpton.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Hampton."

The only Pirates teams I know in NCAA are Seton Hall and Hampton. This is the first time we play Hampton, and we last played Seton Hall in early 1970.

https://www.flohoops.com/live/48117 will have video.

https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=425742 will have statistics.

Edit: https://kenpom.com/conf.php?c=CAA rates us +2.82 and Hampton -15.19, which makes us 18.01 better. It predicts 81-71, which surprises me because Hampton's home court advantage can't be 8 points to reduce the gap from 18 to 10. Hampton is 340th in KenPom, which is 24th worst of 363 teams.

Edit: We made four threes and lead 16-11. My first impression of Hampton is that the statistics have not started.

Edit: We lead 27-16. Estrada, Thomas, Dubar, and Williams have most of our points, and maybe all, but I do not know because the statistics did not start. We committed the first foul by either team with 8:46 left in the half, and I wish I could find out the record for longest time before the first foul. Then Amir Nesbitt got two quick fouls. We committed at least 5 turnovers, so turnovers and not drawing fouls are things you can complain about if you want to complain while up 27-16.

Not a single mention of this game on Hampton’s website, other than the schedule. No preview. Live stats aren’t even working (assuming Hampton doesn’t have employees to run them). Totally not acceptable for this conference, it’s downright embarrassing.

Life stats still are not working. Maybe Hampton can work on it during halftime and get it going again.

39-23 at the half. Crazy how we missed three layups in this game all by different people Frustrating but I mean we should/could win this game by as many as 30 points. Seemingly scoring at will. I like Williams in this game Hampton had no answer for him and Thomas getting comfortable from behind the arc.
