The Mountaineers are 2-2 with a big win @ Va Tech.
Hofstra connections: App State Coach Jim Fox was an assistant at Davidson under Hofstra alum Bob McKillop. Fox's brother, Jeff, also played for Hofstra under Jay Wright.

deceiving game, this will not be easy - with the injuries in the post, this will be the guard show - need to light them up and put up major buckets
ASU is not a huge team per say, but they have a lot of front court depth - record is so-so but that road win at VT should get this team taking them serious - I believe they had some guys suspended to start the yr, so there is talent back on the court for them
this is the kind of situation where you look to your team leaders/stars to step up and take control - not fair or feasible to expect Walker to perform miracles as a true frosh - just need him to play sound fundamental ball at his position, and allow Green, Tanksley, Nesmith, and Bernardi to attack and lead this team to a win
If they can get the road W here, I think it's another BIG statement to the guts, talent, improvement, and togetherness of this squad
don't mean to make ASU bigger than they are, this is really more about HU and the current position they're in - the circumstances make this game, this opponent, a key one
Go get 'em!! ROLL PRIDE!!!

I think down the line we'll see the 4 guard set more than you think. If you can put Kone in the middle with 4 guys who are shooting out the lights, it could create some matchup problems somewhere.

I want this team to run the other team off the court. VCU style of defense that drains the legs of the opponent. The last 5 minutes of the game should belong to us. The matchup problem should be Green Tanksley, Bernardi, Nesmith, Robinson and Nichols.

That tells us that we should beat them handily

Not so fast. remember this is a road game for us. We are 0-2 on the road and 5-0 at home. I expect a tight game especially since we have only one true freshman center for this game. If we hit our shots and can limit the damage inside we should be OK.

We need to limit turnovers because I expect us to be outrebounded. Hit our foul shots down the stretch if we get a lead late.

The lack of disclosure around injuries is designed to keep the opposition a bit unsure of what to prepare for. I think upcoming teams will be better able to plan for and exploit the front court issues so nothing is too easy. Stu we have won 1 game on the road...Jackson State. Any road wins are good wins. I think we all will relax when Gustys and Kone are healthy additions to the team

.My Bad. I was away in California and forgot it was a road game. Need to get off fast and keep Walker out of foul trouble. I dont know how well Appy State shoots the three. I expect we will use a combo of man to man and zone depending on the foul situation. I also expect Nichols playing a big role in this game.

Very thorough and informative preview from Scout. It predicts we will win 78-69.

Also, I'm pretty sure I saw Moussa in the arena watching the women's game today, and Gustys did travel with the team to App St., so maybe Gustys is better off than we think if he still traveled.

I agree PoP - pretty good preview from scout. Interesting though how they do not mention recent injuries - I guess they are jsut not aware since HU does not talk about them.

Halftime score is 29-26 Hofstra. This is playing into Appy States hand. They want to slow down our offense. We need to pick up the pace in the second half.

We're only shooting 20% from the field at the U12 of the second half… Down by 1, 36-37. We need to learn how to make some free throws as well.

We closed well and won by about 15. It was nice to see solid game execution in the last 6-8 minutes. Clearly we had the better coached players (and ones who could execute) down the stretch.
We will surely need our bigs to be healthy when the level of competition is higher. We will struggle against good bigs, but we have not really run into any the last few games.
