One week to go till our first game. Will we win? Will we win big? Who will start? What are your predictions?

Well I know nothing about Jacksonville, but if reports are accurate Hofstra should come away with the W. Always hard to predict how any team will play in Game 1 of the season. Need some more time for chemistry to build but this should be a solid unit.

Who will start? In basketball do starters really matter? For example I can see Nesmith and Kone (two seniors getting all/most of the starts) but being bench players and replaced early in the game by players more athletic.

Line-up I'd like to see on the floor getting the most minutes:

PG: J.Green (JR)
SG: B.Bernardi (So)
SF: J.Robinson (So)
4: A.Tanksley (Jr)
5: R.Gustys (FR)

Those five players should lead the team in Minutes per game. Anywhere from 25-35+ minutes per player.

The bench, only need about 40 minutes per game of TOTAL playing time from the bench:

These three will likely see the bulk of it
D.Nesmith SR
M.Kone SR
M.Nichols JR

E.Gonzalez should get eased into it this year, he's pretty much a PG only and Green and occasionally Nesmith will be running the show most of the time)
A.Walker I know it seems hard to do with just a 10 scholarship roster but it might be wise to redshirt him this year, get an extra year of eligibility for him. I don't think the need for him is all that great. I think Gustys, Kone, Tanksley, Nichols can handle all of the minutes at the 4/5.

JAM likes smaller '4 guard' type lineups. Tanksley was last years Upshaw at Niagara. He's even better at that role than Upshaw. I expect him to do that at Hofstra most nights. This team will run, much more so than last year. The horses are there.

Should be a fun season. Surprised they are being picked anywhere from 1st to 3rd in the conference. Thought they might have to sneak up on people (which I always prefer). Apparently the CAA is downright horrible this season. When looking at the predicted RPIs of the conference, I thought we were back in America East days. Just have to roll with it and take advantage of it.

I think we'll see an up tempo game, lots of movement, and therefore both some flashes of big talent and some first game/new team sloppiness

JU is also breaking in a new coach and a lot of new starters, so prob the same expected from them, if not moreso on the sloppy side - have a talented guard, but I think if HU can contain him they should win this game - still with the newness of it all, my guess is it will be within about 10pts - if HU comes out firing and clicking on all cylinders they could win by much bigger...I just don't see that first game out

starters my guess is: Nesmith, Green, Tanksley, Kone, and either Robinson, Bernardi, or Rokas, depending on the size/scoring needed against JU (because no clue who they're starting outside of Haywood)

adjusting my prediction slightly - didn't realize Haywood is no longer around JU - they're replacing something around 60 pts/game from last yr to this - first yr coach, tons of new players, so I think after some battling back and forth (normal first game stuff), HU will come out on top by about 12-15 when it's all said and done

starting 5: Nesmith, Green, Tanksley, Robinson, Kone

though that doesn't matter all that much, I see basically every player getting time - let's see what these guys got

Sagarin has us at 71.34 and JU at 63.61 add 4 points for home court advantage for Hofstra and the predicted score works out to about this: Hofstra 75 Jacksonville 63.....I'll take it right now!

We win by 20 after calling off the dogs. Super-psyched for tomorrow. Getting out the blue and gold war paint! Also, love the 8pm tip.

With the women's game starting at 6, I bet the men's game will actually end up starting a little bit later than 8.
Both teams have been in the student center this week promoting the games, and talking to students to get them to go, so hopefully there will be a good turnout.

I don't know if the spread will be that big, as I'd expect a lot of the team to see some time out there.

I might be out for the beginning of the game, so starting at 8:00 or later is better for me than the normal 7:00 start.

Before we play, William & Mary at Florida is on SEC Network at 6:00.

No. Hofstra is on TV much less often than when they had Stokes and Agudio. Hofstra isn't on TV until January 10, which is the first of six televised games (plus the CAA Semifinals, CAA Final, and NCAA Tournament if Hofstra gets there). On Monday November 17, Hofstra at North Carolina State will on ESPN3 online.

All Hofstra home games are streamed live via gohofstra - thankfully! (Live in Minnesota) the quality is top notch and it's free.

http://www.gohofstra.com/documents/2014 ... df?id=2384 says the record is 7 (done 7 times) which is shared by Frank Walker in 1987-1988, Jason Hernandez in 1999-2000, Cornelius Vines in 2009-2010, Mike Moore in 2011-2012, Taran Buie in 2012-2013, and Zeke Upshaw twice in 2013-2014.

Hofstra has 15 assists at halftime and the team record is 25. Hofstra leads 53-32.
