Now that we have a full class for 2018, might as well start discussing 2019

Main focus is bringing in our next great shooting guard to follow JWF. I am expecting a combination of Ray and Coburn to step up but need the next guard to follow them. Secondary focuses are PG and big man.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. It's enough to try to wrap our heads around the up and coming year. This team with a little good fortune could win this thing if Taylor can produce a Zeke Upshaw type year with all due respect to Zeke. We all know we will have to play much better D and if Taylor gives us the enforcer type D in the paint contesting shots we will have a player that will give us something we haven't had in years. I'm more into getting excited over this year and the possibilities!

2019 PG Jahmir Young (6-0, 160, 2★) has received an offer from Hofstra.

Mr. Young is from everyone's favorite high school, DeMatha

I kind of remember getting a kid named Leroy Allen from DeMatha years ago. That's when Dick Berg was coaching us if my memory serves me well. We had a PG named Robbie Weingard from Huntington? I think some of these kids were questionable D-1 players.

Weingard was the best HU PG I saw until Speedy came along. Holds the HU record for most assists in a game (16) and ranks second to Speedy in career assists.

Allen was a bruising SG. I believe his son played in the CAA a few years aback.

Yeah Weingard holds that assist record at HU who would have thunk it. What about Frank Walker at PG who I believe came from Christ the King? Also Steve Brawley from Malverne and the kid that transferred to URI I believe. All top notch point guards.

Here's a question that could have numerous answers based on everyone's opinions but good food for thought. Hofstra in 2019-2020 will have a very strong nucleus of a team that year especially if Taylor gets another year of eligibility. Who will replace JWF AFTER HE GRADUATES. Will it be enough that Ray has another year under his belt or will there be a proven transfer to pick up the slack, Coburn or a freshman??

My bet right now would be Ray. He is a born scorer and he showed a lot last year as a freshman.

I imagine that the post JWF era team will be a more balanced team offensively and nobody will be scoring over 20 a game. Justin creates his own scoring opportunities a lot of the time but Ray is more of a set and shoot kind of player. Maybe Eli will start to consistently put up bigger numbers but for now his numbers are sufficient and he always has those games where he looks unstoppable. It will be interesting to see how this team will fare without Justin.

No it won't! Perish the thought.

Let's be honest nobody is irreplaceable and as much as I have liked Justin even going back to his freshman year this team next year could be a more balanced team. You don't want to live and die on the play of one player and we know Justin can have off games. A guy like Zane Martin could effectively fill Justin's shoes and there are plenty of good guards out there.

the offers have been going out at a rapid pace. As of now you have two guards graduating (wright-foreman, wormley), a big (dwyer), and possibly another big (taylor) depending on his request for an extra year of eligibility.

7/16/2018 - 2019 SF Qwanzi Samuels, Jr. (6-8, -, 2★) has received an offer from Hofstra.
7/16/2018 - 2019 SF R.J. Blakney (6-5, 180, 2★) has received an offer from Hofstra.
7/16/2018 - 2019 SF Tyler Millin (6-5, 182, 2★) has received an offer from Hofstra.
7/16/2018 - 2019 SF Justin McKoy (6-7, 220, 2★) has received an offer from Hofstra.
7/16/2018 - 2019 PG Marquise Kennedy (6-1, -, 2★) has received an offer from Hofstra.
7/15/2018 - 2019 PG Sam Griffin (6-2, 158, 2★) has received an offer from Hofstra.
7/15/2018 - 2019 SG Jamon Battle (6-5, 200, 2★) has received an offer from Hofstra.
7/14/2018 - 2019 SF Michael Christmas (6-6, 195, 3★) has received an offer from Hofstra.

Yeah cactus I was about to post something similar to this 8 players in a matter of a few days with 2 PG's and 5 SF's and only 1 SG. They have a total of 14 PG offers which seems to show they are very serious in backing up Buie and having experience moving forward. Also a total of 6 SG's which I believe will grow big time as the year progresses. They have 13 offers currently for SF's which is a position they need to fill considering they don't have any unless you consider Radovic/Trueheart a small forward. This year should be a guard driven offense with more presence in the post hopefully denying easy buckets that plagued us the last few years.

They are in good shape next year in the front court, especially so if Taylor gets another year. They'll need a pg of the future and will be replacing wright Foreman

Well cactus you're being a bit complacent here. In reality with Wormley graduating and with Buie's prior health issues we need at least 2 PG'S to be on the safe side. We might be taking a lot of things for granted with Taylor's ability to play a substantial amount of minutes this year and whether he gets another year of eligibility might be a moot issue if he has a recurrence of his prior injuries. Also the replacement of Justin may not be an easy thing to accomplish but a more balanced scoring team will behoove us in the long run! I do feel confident that with all the players out there looking to transfer there will be lots of possibilities and we will plug all the holes.

At the current time we have 42 offers to fill 3 possibly 4 open spots for next year. 14 PG offers, 8 SG's, 16 SF's and 4 PF's that seems like a lot of offers to fill a max of 4 slots but kids that are being recruited have a lot of options. Also we never know who could transfer and some of these kids they're recruiting have long lists of college suitors and probably the likelihood of us signing them is remote. Just like this year our eventual recruits may never even show up on Verbal Commits?

I'd lean towards this; our 4 commits this year didn't show up on VC until after they committed. And last year I think Ray was the only one that was shown before he committed.

I think verbal commits only lists HS and JUCO transfers as recruiting targets. I do not think transfers are listed as being recruited by"...…..", rather, they only show up when they commit to the new school.

So I would have expected only 1 of 4 of the new guys (hughes) to show up as being recruited.

Cards I think basically this is correct however I don't think that Hughes was ever listed on V/C as being recruited by us but that is just my memory!
