2021-22 Men's Mid Major Poll
We are on the cusp of entering the 2021-22 Men's Mid Major Poll, but please tell the folks at College Insider that Gonzaga is no longer a mid-major team:

Re: 2021-22 Men's Mid Major Poll
They've been #1 for years a P5 team in a mid major conference. We would be relatively high I believe if not for that debacle against Stony Brook. A game that has a lingering stigma attached to it. Need to beat Monmouth tonite who's #10 right now.Jojogunne wrote:We are on the cusp of entering the 2021-22 Men's Mid Major Poll, but please tell the folks at College Insider that Gonzaga is no longer a mid-major team:

Re: 2021-22 Men's Mid Major Poll
This is big time true and we should stay there as long as we don't lose anymore games like that Stony Brook game. We appear to have some weak teams in the CAA this year and we can ill afford to lose to them. Games against Delaware, Towson, Charleston and JMU should be very competitive games as will others.daHUPride wrote:Got to think last nights W gets us into Top 25 2021-22 Men's Mid Major Poll
Re: 2021-22 Men's Mid Major Poll
The CAA is 14th of 32 in the NET, and 12th in the RPI. I saw the CAA expected to be worse than average. In the NET there are two great teams (Towson 62nd and us 71st), five near the middle (Charleston 136th, James Madison 140th, Delaware 142nd, Northeastern 177th, and Drexel 188th), and three bad teams (UNCW 280th, Elon 320th, and William & Mary 351st). There are 358 teams, so William & Mary is eighth worst. They're 0-12 vs. Division I, and they're our next opponent. There are 358 teams, so the mean rank is 179.5. Losing any of our before games before going to James Madison would be disappointing. We're 30th in the RPI, and we're the top RPI team with at least 5 losses. Among teams eligible for the Mid-Major Poll, we're 16th in the NET, and 9th in the RPI.triplec2195 wrote: We appear to have some weak teams in the CAA this year and we can ill afford to lose to them. How high will we be listed in the new mid major poll? We will take a big leap depending on how others fair but we will take a good jump I believe.

I'm surprised that Towson is that high and JMU is that low but neither one of these teams has played any ranked teams. Our SOS is better then both.EvanJ wrote:The CAA is 14th of 32 in the NET, and 12th in the RPI. I saw the CAA expected to be worse than average. I did not know exactly where to put this information, but, ESPN's Joe Lunardi's 12-24-21 NCAA Bracket has HU as the #14 seed in Chicago playing #3 seed Villanova. I think most of us will sign with Santa right now for this to occur. Hey, there is so much basketball ahead for this team, but it sure sounds great to me. Imagine the media coverage for this first round game.

Happy Holidays to everyone I would sign up for that also but will be greedy and want a higher seed. I actually think we can play with Villanova and it could make for a nice story line for a lot of obvious reasons.

Me too. Would love to see that HU vs V match up - AND I would actually go to that game!triplec2195 wrote:Happy Holidays to everyone I would sign up for that also but will be greedy and want a higher seed. On that note - this Flying Dutchmen Fans site - has been great all these years - and especially these past 2 of lockdowns/COVID - I appreciate the insight that you all provide; the passion and knowing there are other Hofstra Fans that support the team thick and thin.
Merry Christmas - Happy Holidays - and Happy HEALTHY New Year to ALL!
Peace!

JMU is 7-2 vs. Division I, so it's easy to be in the top half with that winning percentage even with a bad SOS. Towson is 9-4 with no non-Division I games, and their SOS is better than average. They do have 6 Quadrant 4 games, and we only have 2 of 11, which were Detroit and Bucknell. If we win at Towson on January 11, we have a good chance at leading the CAA in standings and rankings.triplec2195 wrote:I'm surprised that Towson is that high and JMU is that low but neither one of these teams has played any ranked teams. Hopefully no bad losses in the CAA for us.

Re: 2021-22 Men's Mid Major Poll
14 conferences have every team with a worse NET than us. That could fill 14 through 16 including six 16 seeds two of which lose in the First Four. Therefore, we have a worse seed than at least one team with a worse NET. Any CAA Tournament winner other than us and Towson would probably get a 15 or 16.The Shadow wrote: I did not know exactly where to put this information, but, ESPN's Joe Lunardi's 12-24-21 NCAA Bracket has HU as the #14 seed in Chicago playing #3 seed Villanova. Games against the bottom three are six chances for a very bad loss, and home games against the six in the middle of the NET would be bad losses. That's 11 of 18 games that would be bad losses.triplec2195 wrote: Hopefully no bad losses in the CAA for us.

Also of note we're the only team in the top 25 that have 5 losses. Nobody more then 4. They must like the quality of our losses, lol.

Re: 2021-22 Men's Mid Major Poll
Just took a quick look at the mid major poll where we're nowhere to be found. Things of note however are that Iona is #4 with 3 losses, James Madison is #17 with 3 losses one of those was against us, Monmouth #21 with 5 losses one to us and Princeton is 24 with three losses one again to us. Towson has 36 votes and is an outlier right now . You would think that we would be getting votes again considering who we've beaten but I guess that 1 point loss to W&M totally screwed us??
Re: 2021-22 Men's Mid Major Poll
I was also surprised we didn't get any points after beating JMU and Delaware.

That loss against W&M was the kiss of death in more ways then one.
