Who on that list would realistically come to Hofstra?
Some are well-known (no shot at all), others are from power schools (if they're a top player there, they'll only go to another power school), and the rest are from mid-majors (if they're a top player on that list, they'll jump from their mid-major school to a power school).

Matthew Van Komen, Elon's 7-4 center, and Keenan Fitzmorris, SBU's former center (leaving Stanford), are both on the list. Not that they would transfer here, but how do they still have any eligibility left? The NCAA has not yet approved its "5-in-5" rule.

I noticed them and thought about it with Hofstra for a second but they'll both likely go to power league team if they do have eligibility. Fitzmorris already did - he went from Stanford to Stony Brook, and then played (though, not much) at Northwestern last year. Some guys do return to mid-majors after getting their money and not playing much on the bigger stage, so it's possible Fitzmorris could do that, but that type of case is often not likely.
A lot of guys entered the portal late in the window this offseason just in case the House vs. NCAA case goes their way. If it doesn't, no harm. They just won't play. But entering the portal at least gives them the shot in case they are granted that extra year of eligibility. Here's a bit more on it:

Charleston signed a kid named Mister Dean today. Besides having an awesome name, he's 6'6, was the Big South Freshman of the Year, and averaged a ho hum 15.7ppg and 5.5 reb, and shot 57% from the field. Would have to imagine a kid like that didn't come cheap. Will our time ever come??

Well boys-I can honestly say I’m very scared about this situation we are now facing. Don’t want to be negative, but we need to be transparent. With all the firepower Charleston and Uncw are no putting together, the CAA may be a runaway and it doesn’t look like we will be competing.

With Speedy celebrating his 47th birthday yesterday I was hoping he would have received some birthday presents in the form of recruit signings. Maybe they will be a little belated!!

Glad we have a new coach, but according to Verbal Commits we have only 10 players if German P is back. We are way small, except for Sunday and i just don't see many W's with that lineup. What is going on? Not sure what Charleston, UNCW, or Towson have over Hofstra that makes them so attractive.

Cards. I knew that response was coming. I'm not that sure because this seems to be deeper to me. Are Charleston, Townson, and UNCW that loaded with dough? Not sure. Just don't understand why HU is not more competitive. Actually, this year it seems like HU is not even trying. Hope i am wrong.

As has been said here before and restated numerous times from HUSID kids have been on the campus don't know what the source is but I'm sure quite valid. If we have 3 scholarships left to give then we should be very picky when it comes to giving them out. Thinking outside the box could we bring in walk ons and give them NIL $$$ that would not only make them happy but also pay for their tuition as well. Crazy I know but thinking outside the box so maybe we would have 15-16 players. A few would be walk ons!

It has nothing to do with Hofstra not having money. As a matter of fact, Hofstra has more money combined than those three schools you mentioned. This has to do with not putting money in sports especially in this NIL day and age. Plain and simple

As as been noted, Hofstra's endowment is about 5-6 times that of UNCW and Charleston, but it seems it's earmarked mainly for non-athletics pursuits. They are an educational university, after all, so it's probably that's probably the best use of the funds. But as has also been noted, finding a good balance between funding that and athletics has far-reaching benefits for the university as a whole. I don't know the breakdown of Hofstra's roughly $884 million endowment and how it's used but it's sizable vs. the schools that are Hofstra's its top CAA men's hoops rivals. And when you look at the academic ranking, Hofstra is only on par with UNCW. So, if they're only going to be at that level - and not ranked significantly higher than UNCW academically - is the much larger endowment being used well and could some of it be shifted toward athletics? I have no idea, but just wondering.

I thought it would be understood that my comment had nothing to do with endowments, rather, the dollars allocated by the university to athletic programs as well as NIL money coming from outside sources. Pretty sure we've discussed this topic already somewhere in this or other threads.

I can't see Towson spending more than us...where did that come from? I know we have one more kid who has not been announced and the team is looking to add two more...that would give us 13.
Crazy, the kid from Northeastern signs with Maryland...he averaged something like 5 ppg last year!

Former HU player David Green ends up at Tulsa. Think this might be his fourth school. He is certainly seeing the country. He would have been a perfect fit for HU at the moment in my view.
