MBB recruits 2016
Re: MBB recruits 2016
I'm 100% for a redshirt guard, either PG or CG that can play either - prepping for the year after when Powers is gone is important for now IMO
The priority is 1 more 6'6-6'8 stretch 4 - that is a MUST. Then the last scholly, if they're not going to grab a PF which it appears they have no plans to do from what I can tell, should be used for a guard to redshirt and ready to step in the following season - sounds like they are pursuing Simon hard to help in that area... he can play a few spots, including PG
JWF will absolutely see the floor next yr - he's way too athletic and talented not to - BB needs to be platooned with JWF - I think you're putting too much emphasis on the height factor Z - I get the point, certainly combined with DB it's a tiny look, BUT that's not a bigger factor than their talent (see Justin Robinson at Monmouth)
Many teams play small guards and small lineups successfully due to their talent (across all levels), and more and more teams are employing 2 PG sets (read of another P5 the other day) - most PG's are smallish - it's not really a major factor if you have good size elsewhere - and HU will have solid size at each position 3-5
I love BB's shot when it's on, and he displayed a strong ability to drive to the hoop last season, so he is certainly a valuable guy - but he also displayed being a HUGE liability, and JWF brings a LOT to the table - he has a more complete game, super athletic, decent and improving D, and he can light it up...from anywhere. He's a threat driving, slashing, pulling up, and from deep - he absolutely should, and will, get good PT next season
As for Ford, UR makes me uncomfortable - they will be pushing hard, UNLESS they land this Wesson kid first - that would be a boost for HU
But HU needs other guys in their sights just in case, and also to potentially fill the 4th 'ship - not sure if Dylon Gregory is still in the mix, believe it was a 3 school battle - has good size and appears athletic from what I've seen - seems to be able to shoot, drive, and block, but I don't have enough to go on regarding competition - is he talented enough to make the impact needed?
Would love to hear of more visitors...

Gary and/or others, when you get a chance, see if there's any feedback from your folks on Dylon Gregory - curious if he's looking to pick from HU, Columbia, and Wright St, or if he's thinking another route (like JUCO or a Canadian school)...
He's got some talent - and the description that really stoked my increased interest is here:
"A very determined young man, with a hate to lose mentality."
Yeah, I like me some of that attitude! Kid's got some nice highlights - appears to play the 3/4, runs well, nasty in transition, can handle the rock like a guard, drive, slash, pull up, hit from deep, and play some D down low - I'm still trying to figure out if his #34 rank is in a particular grouping or if it's overall for Canada (which would be impressive)

Re: MBB recruits 2016
Gregory seems like the perfect wing redshirt candidate to me. Let him acclimate to this level of play and I think he could be a real diamond in the rough. Remember we were the first to offer him and no one knew who he was, now it seems like he's picking up steam. He's got length and can finish at the rim, seems like the kind of rangy forward that UNCW's team had in droves this year and that we need more of.

And Polito--while I can't seem to find it now I remember seeing something that said he was in the top 40 best prospects in Canada, so I think that #34 is an overall ranking.
Re: MBB recruits 2016
Other then Greer officially signing his LOI this week do not expect any other commitments from now thru 4/20...source said may take a while...If I remember correctly Rokas did not sign until May something....hopefully it's good things happen to those who wait...fishing around for additional names...everyone else please do the same
Re: MBB recruits 2016
ggrrrr... Not what I wanted to hear, but understandable - it's a tough game
I would say that prob points to HU looking hard at potential grad transfers for the 4th spot, or as a backup to what happens with Ford
Also, the Wesson young man decides this afternoon between OSU, Butler, and Richmond - I think this would have an impact on Fords decision as well, although prob not the only factor...

Has Greer signed yet? The signing period opened today.

I don't think JOCO sign LOI.

Che Bob's recruiting might have opened up again. Colorado State has interest as well. I really think Bob can come in and fill that Nichols role right away, possibly a better offensive player though.

Re: MBB recruits 2016
Been keeping an eye on him with the UALR coaching change - would have to think he's going to at least re-evaluate, that HC was THE primary reason to go there... otherwise that's a program with almost no history, and is likely to fall back quite a bit without that top leadership... it's not a Valpo or VCU situation where they're built for a long term rise
He's a big body baller for sure, plays hard, has talent, and could def bring some Jenkins-like value due to his size - no one on the HU roster is built like him, save Robinson perhaps (but different games) - would DEF be interested in him at HU - could easily fill that CG role I think they'll need
Colorado St apparently has interest in everyone HU does lol
So Wesson committed to OSU, and that leaves UR in the heavy hunt for Ford - his recruitment is going to continue to get hot - they are in hot pursuit of other wing-forwards as well, so that to me means A) they have a need and going hard after him now, and B) Ford needs to realize he was never there top priority and still isn't, he's one of a couple of guys they're hunting
Hope he notes the difference - to me, he's going to shirt at UR and maybe make an impact JR/SR yrs, depending on his use and other guys - but on an average A10 program that has NO shot at winning that conf in the near future - none. Not a knock on them, just the reality of the top level A10 programs
At HU, my bet is Ford is a 1st teamer in the CAA Jr/Sr - he can be a star here, and HU can, and IMO will, win the CAA during his time here - this guy can make a big name for himself here in a super market with legit NBA connections - I just don't see it at UR, really don't - but hey, it's a good school and I'm sure the A10 sounds good - we'll see what he thinks is best
Agree that Gregory can be something in the future - thx for confirming the thought that ranking was overall for CA, impressive - he looks to have some explosive ability, not a lot of offers, but curious to what he decides to do...a RS yr here could def lead to solid production down the road
Simon visits SJU this weekend, hoping that HU can also get him on campus while he's here... I think HU is becoming more of an option, although SJU is def a real player IMO - his visit to OK St got less worrisome to me as they just took a talented wing commit - if he's looking for PT, HU has to be one of the better options - he will get it here, no question.

Re: MBB recruits 2016
Jaylen McManus commits to CofC. Those guys can recruit and are building something, that's for sure. They'll be good soon. So now Verbal Commits only has us looking at three 2016 wings: Kevon Harris, Antwan Walker, and Ford. All three have gotten looks from bigger schools, landing any of them would be a success at this point.
Re: MBB recruits 2016
Don't forget that we still have Junior Saintel (JUCO) as a potential target. Maybe we're no longer interested since the greer signing, but I have not heard anything recently on Saintel. I would rather have Ford and be able to get 4 years out of him (with a nice high ceiling), but Saintel still shows up on verbal commits (for whatever that's worth).
Agree with you RP15 - CofC is a Program that is heading in the right direction.

Re: MBB recruits 2016
Def a solid late commit for CofC - they are rebuilding well, and will be yearly contenders - I'm very surprised at that choice for McManus - I figured if he was going to stay down south he would've been a lock for UNCW - actually a big miss for them/steal for CofC - that's how you know they are going to be a formidable staff/program
Man, some wild stuff happening with HC Beard between UNLV and TT due to Tubby going to Memphis - this could impact Che Bob - will he try to follow Beard to one of those spots, stay with UALR, or open things back up completely...
Very anxious to hear some news on current targets, or visits from other guys we may not know much about
Saintel I would guess may still be in the mix, but I've heard/seen nothing to go on recently...
Cmon FORD, make Polito a happy guy!!

Anyone have insight on PG Gianni Ford? From the island, seems like he'd be nice depth at our guard spot even if he's never going to be the star. Only SBU and us have offered him.

Re: MBB recruits 2016
Considering his counterpart, Taurean Thompson, has offers from Cuse, Zona and Xavier I'd say we're in good company. Kid could be a star, looking forward to a Buie, Jwf, Pemberton lineup at the guard position.
Re: MBB recruits 2016
That's impressive. I hope there are highlights somewhere.
