Need a minimum of either the 13 or 14 sports in order for the school to be D1

You forgot volleyball, which has been pretty successful and field hockey is improving so that gives us about 10 sports

Then of course, cross country and track and field and you have 14 sports
Probably get rid of golf, men's and women's and tennis men's and women's

So my take is actually the opposite, as many here know, I've beaten this one to death - but we don't need anymore teams, especially good ones. We have a hard enough time winning this conference as it is - the CAA is not getting multiple bids. Maybe once every 30 years if something like Miami of OH happens, but this is a 1 bid league, and we need that bid. I want HU in the dance - I don't care about making the league harder - as you noted, that's counter-productive. The LAST thing we need is another good team lowering our chances. We need NCAAT's, and that's ALL that matters.

Now I am in FULL agreement on cutting sports - I've said this for years already as well - HU Mens Hoops must be the #1 priority, and everything else is secondary. We should carry the minimum number of sports. Even if that means we only cut 2, so be it, cut em and put every last penny into mens basketball.

Mid majors shouldn't be worried about providing all these other olympic sports - I know it's harsh, but have to look at the facts of business today, it's a complete waste of resources that produces next to nothing. Golf, tennis, track, stop it - we're in NY, we don't need that stuff and we're the wrong weather for all of it. Let the $100M + enterprises like OSU and Michigan do that. They can afford it. We cannot.

The only sport I would wholeheartedly support adding at this point would be mens hockey. HU should already have done this years ago - makes all the sense in the world, and I think it would draw a great fanbase - LI has ZERO college hockey to support and there's a significant hockey fanbase here. Hockey fans are a dedicated passionate bunch. If we can't have football, this would be a strong understudy. Building that base would build the hoops base and vice versa - it would all increase the pool size of fans to draw from. This one is a no brainer IMO.

That said, now is NOT the time. Should've done it before, but since we didn't, right now we need ALL resources focused on mens hoops. Once we have that cranking we can entertain a hockey add. For now, it's hoops Recruit, Retain, REPEAT!!!

Polito - Spot on again about hockey. No school is better situated for hockey. Twin Rinks almost in walking distance. The NCC across the street. Plenty of local rivals. Quinnipiac, Army, the upstate schools like Clarkson and St. Lawrence. It makes so much sense it will neve happen.

I would rather spend the money on basketball and get our lacrosse program back up to where it should be...our men's and women's soccer programs are top rate and our softball program should be.
Would be happy if we channel our resources into these sports, with I guess the addition of women's lacrosse and basketball...the other sports don't cost much and attract student athletes who mostly pay their way....dropping them would result in very little savings.

I don’t want high point. They’re good and they have a lot of NIL money for a school like them. We don’t need or want the CAA being any harder to win because it really is a one bid league now. I was thinking if we could get like 3-4 amazing teams in the CAA maybe we could become like the A-10 but I’m probably dreaming about that since I wish we were in the A10 now.

Men’s BBALL should be our main priority. The other sports will get better as well if our men’s bball team keeps making the tourney. It’s just how things go.

HU has been in the CAA long enough to see the conference be better than the A-10. There were years with Mason, VCU, ODU, UNCW, HU, where the CAA was 8th ranked in the country out of 30 conferences and we never really came close to winning the league outside of 2006. I am fine with the CAA as is right now, a 1 bid league that we have great chance of winning year after year bc Speedy plays a tough OOC schedule and has the ability to recruit and build rosters with the capability to win it consistently.

I’m certainly not taking anything away from the team, but let’s be honest here. We have had some good teams and in reality since 2015 (when we started to become pretty good…I remember we beat Florida state that year and I think we lost in the CAA championship) we’ve only won the conference championship two times out of 11 seasons. That’s really not that great. Should we have won more? Absolutely! But we haven’t…

And this year, we did get lucky with UNCW and Charleston getting upset in the championship. Again, not taking anything away from the team as I’m extremely excited, happy, and Proud that we went dancing. But, our dancing record hasn’t been spectacular

Tyler Thomas certainly has the right wing size, rebounding, and offensive skill set - not sure about his defense - believe he got hurt, didn't play much in the WCC for LMU so not much to assess - worth a look for sure, esp for depth, but I think we'll need better for the starting position.

This year Speedy & Co. built a very capable team - P2 level size, multiple scoring options, superior guard play, tenacious defenders, and relatively good rebounders. Where we got beat is in athleticism (which hurt rebounding and defense sometimes vs more qualified teams). We need to continue all the good things from this team, and bring in more athletic 3-5's with size so our wings and bigs can get up and down the court in a hurry and defend everything from the hook to the 3. No big deal right lol

Can already see that's what an Xavier Blake type player will bring - kid is explosive - we'll need more of that in the 6'6-6'9 range, and then another 6'10/7'0 center with size that can still move. HU has offered a guy similar to this in Keoni Sacco who comes from Canada like Blake (now at Fork Union in VA). He's around 6'9, very athletic, scores in the paint, has a handle, drives and finishes, can dish, rebounder, stretches the floor, can start and finish fast breaks, etc. Just an example, no clue if that's our guy, but he's akin to the type.

This is an exciting time, and this is a very enticing offseason for HU - this transfer portal and recruiting season is HUGE for our future.

I agree we need some more size and athleticism up front...relying on mid-sized guys like 6-5 is ok for a back up but we need guys in the 6-7 to 6-10 range who are athletic and can score...we need Victory to take the next step with his scoring around the basket if he stays.

Cutting 2-3 sports would net 100's of thousands of dollars that can be redirected to mens hoops - likely another mil - there's still staff salaries, equipment, uniforms, travel, etc. It's plenty of money that would absolutely have an impact on mens hoops - even another 500k to that program is huge - that pays some bills and some talent!

And I don't believe for one second that those kids are paying 90k a year on their own - highly unlikely - they're getting scholly help from somewhere - the school is not netting that full money from them, not a chance - it's insane HU has the gall to charge that much, but that's another topic lol

Most kids are getting financial aid packages. I highly doubt that many are paying full freight. Coaches of those sports are all part timers so the savings is not very much.

Assuming that Victory is here they need to work on him developing a mid range game. Not shooting three's but be able to to hit 10-15 foot shots. Not everything can come from dunks and close up shots off the glass. Really like his upside and hope he stays. He's quick, athletic and can be an animal rebounder and shot blocker.

He started 31 of 32 games for FDU this season, scoring 10.7 ppg.

His shooting, both overall (37.1%) and from 3 (33.1%) both dropped a few percentage points from his prior year at Hofstra (40.4% and 37.5%).

Hofstra fans should thank him as he deserves credit for Hofstra making the tournament by not playing for Hofstra!
