Wow, that is a lot of firepower. The third time this season that the Catamounts have won a match by the score of 5-0:

Yikes, sounds like Vermont may be a lot to handle after that Iona thrashing but HU is still the favorite and at home.

Who's going on Sunday? Shouldn't be bad for late-November weather-wise (low 50s, upper 40s), no rain, although winds near 20 mph which could affect the game as well as the warmth in the stands.

San Diego won 1-0. If you assume that the 10 seed got a harder opponent than the 7 seed, it means San Diego will go to us or host Vermont, and either way the away team will have a long flight. If San Diego beats us, they could fly to the east coast three weeks in a row, with the third week being at 2 seed Pittsburgh.

https://www.ncaa.com/game/6348211 will have statistics.

4 seed Georgetown lost 2-0 hosting North Carolina State, which means 13 seed Marshall will host North Carolina State next week. Marshall leads Furman 4-0. 14 seed Indiana just scored to defeat Akron in overtime, 3 seed Denver leads Gardner-Webb 3-0, and eleven of sixteen games have not started yet.

Edit; https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/ ... b32a7456d9 has video. Vermont started four forwards.

Announcers said UVM will host SD next weekend.

Tough loss. I did not see the offsides on what would have been our tying goal, and I don't think the linesman raised his flag, either.

Nevertheless, congratulations to Richard Nuttall and the team on another strong season. Congrats also to our former goalie, Duke's Wessel Speel, who was named ACC Goalkeeper of the Year.

If the 7 seed got to play the team that would have been the seventh easiest opponent if all of the better seeded teams won in the First Round, we would have faced the 26th best team. He said Vermont is 19th, and San Diego is 20th.

Was there tonight. That was a tough one. Hofstra was the better team for what felt like at least 70% of the match and should have won. I never usually blame a loss in sports on the refs and I won't go that far in this one but it really did feel like Hofstra had to beat Vermont and the refs, including what appeared to be the tying goal with just over four minutes left that was waived off. Credit to the Vermont keeper, who made two great saves that looked like would be goals and for the Vermont's answer on a really great shot from a very difficult a angle, which proved to be the game-winner almost immediately after Hofstra tied the match, 1-1. Tough way to go out. Not a doubt in my mind that Hofstra is a better soccer team but the best team doesn't always win - often in soccer than maybe any other sport. Oh well, still a great year.

Not just that either. It felt like Hofstra had to beat Vermont and the refs all match. It looked like Vermont got away with several fouls and about 4-5 hand balls (at least one in the box) that weren't called on them. I don't know how that happens, especially when you're the favorite at home!

Following their win over HU, Vermont beat San Diego 1-0 in OT last night. Next up is 2nd seeded Pitt on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Damn, we were so close.

Frustrating sport sometimes. I will always believe Hofstra was better than Vermont for the vast majority that night after watching in person. They just had some tough breaks. It happens. Congrats to Vermont though, that's a good job getting that far.

UVM just defeated Pitt to advance to the NCAA College Cup vs. Denver. One more win and the Catamounts will play for the national championship.

He is a defender who entered with 4 career goals for us, and 3 career goals for the Red Bulls. Announcer Stuart Holden, who played for the United States Men's National Team (USMNT) said that the Red Bulls are good at set pieces (corner kicks and free kicks) and Los Angeles does not defend set pieces well, and Nealis proved him right. The corner kick hit several players before coming to him. I do not have statistics about this, but I would think that defenders get a higher percent of their goals from corner kicks than other players do because teams taking corner kicks have many players by the goal.

Vermont beats Denver in the semis; they will play #1 Ohio State or Marshall in Monday's NCAA championship game. Wow!
