No matter when it is likely to be ugly day for Hofstra, but I’m exited to face them for first time in 20 years and if weather nice should be decent crowd.

I just looked at the schedule. It’s next Tuesday, the 14th.

So I will quickly mention this game played last night that got caught in the HU tsunami win over Rutgers. We lose to Syracuse 16-8 and after the first period the game really wasn't in doubt for the most part for Syracuse. We continue to show just how bad a team we're.

There are those in the lacrosse world who are wondering how ST still has a job.

A lot of us are wondering that and this sport has been in the crapper for a while now.

Hofstra loses its CAA opener to Fairfield 12-11 after trailing the entire game. Fairfield is 3-5 overall and we are 2-6. We did make it a bit close at the end.

Of our 6 losses this is our third one goal loss

Stu - As mentioned in previous emails ST has got to have the highest percentage of one goal losses of any lax coach ever. Its uncanny.

I know I remember when Jack Hayes was our athletic Director and his last year here he was at one of the men’s lacrosse games. We had lost either two or three games previously by one goal and usually in the last minute I forget who won we were playing but the opposing team scored with six seconds left to pull ahead by one goal, I looked down at Jack and so I had to look at his reaction . I just remember him kicking at the dirt the way Joe DiMaggio did in the World Series when he hit that ball to deep left field

So with all these 1 goals + losses what is the resolution here with this program??

Did a little research. If my numbers are correct - ST has lost 105 games in 17 years. 48 of the losses have been by 1 goal. Thus, 46% of the losses during ST's tenure have been 1 goal losses. If you add in the 15 2 goal losses the percentage moves to 60%. Those numbers seem inordinately high to me, although I don't know what they might suggest. It might suggest that Hofstra is always competitive, but that it just does not know how to win games. It might also suggest that recruiting is not necessarily the problem, as has been suggested on these boards as Hofstra always seems to be in the game, but again that Hofstra does not know how to win. Statistics can be interpreted in multiple ways, but I think we all agree that the program is currently at a low point.

LIsten lets give the coach some professional respect here and having said that he has been around the game a long time. He's aware of what you're pointing out for sure so why can't that be resolved/addressed? I don't know much about lacrosse but what does he say in the post pressers?

I frankly do not understand how my comments lacked professional respect. I was all for ST's hiring. He's run a clean program. He gets high marks from other coaches. He's represented the program well. Early in his tenure he had a number of good years. But he inherited a program that was a consistent winner and NCAA participant, but which has disappointed and languished the last half dozen plus years. There also seems no evidence of a turnaround. I hope he does resolve these issues and turn this around. I frankly can't watch the pressers anymore.

It's very frustrating and whatever the resolution it clearly isn't an easy one otherwise this program would be on the road to recovery. mikey wasn't directed those professional comments to you but I'm sure the coach knows what ails his programs but doesn't have the players to right the ship.

I think I disagree. My point is that Hofstra rarely seems outmatched, but is being outplayed. We seem to have players who can run with the opponent, but fall just short. If the players were the issue, the 1 and 2 goal losses would not be the hallmark of the program. In ST's first year there were 7, 7!, one goal losses. At the time, I thought it was just a coincidence, but it is obviously not. Between 2012 and 2015 there were 18 one goal losses and 23 one or two goal losses. In 2019, 5 of the 9 losses were by one goal. This year 3 of the 6 losses are again by 1 goal. It is uncanny. Players are also not developing in my view. I see little or no growth in a player from his freshman year to his last year. I don't get it and worse, I don't have an answer.

Seth Tierney is still here because of James Metzger
One of Hofstra’s largest donors to men’s sports

I am to the point that I'd rather see the program shutdown than see it further degraded and humiliated. Today's Newsday has a list of the 100 top high school players on LI. Not one is shown as committing to Hofstra. Hofstra is one of the early and founding programs of intercollegiate lacrosse from the 1940's and we cannot compete with LIU, Quinnipiac or Pace for top players? Really? What is going on over there?

That’s a legitimate question Mikey did it say how many committed to LIU and Stony Brook just curious
