Only two opponents (Cornell and Drexel) ranked in preseason top 20 with six others receiving votes (Ohio State, Princeton, UMass, Towson, St, John's and Fairfield). Hopefully our opponents have solid seasons so RPI can be high and give us a shot at at-large.

At-large?? Um, NO, this team needs to win the CAA, get to the NCAA's, and DO SOMETHING there - no excuses anymore from this program.

No knock on you HP1, anyone that's followed my posts on Lax will tell you I've lost my patience with ST - the sched is a little whacky to me, seems to be a lot of challenges on the road rather than home, but no more BS, this is it, PRODUCE.

Our men go up to Syracuse tomorrow to scrimmage the Orange and LeMoyne on Saturday. Next weekend they scrimmage here vs. Hobart and Rutgers

Earlier this week, the CAA coaches picked Hofstra #1 and Sam Llinares preseason POTY:

Our players will remember Joe Ferriso every time they touch the ball:

In addition, Hofstra has established the Joseph A. Ferriso Memorial Fund. Donations payable to Hofstra University may be sent to:

Mike Malave was the first Hofstra player drafted in the MLL draft tonight. He was drafted to the New York Lizards, so after his senior year this season, he gets to continue to call Shuart Stadium his home turf.

Here's one report:

http://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/p ... oyne/30632

We scrimmaged Le Moyne first and outscored the Dolphins in three running quarters, then took our lumps from the Orange.

We'll get to see for ourselves this weekend when Hobart (10 a.m.) and Rutgers (2 p.m.) visit Shuart. Bundle up!

so HU beat a D2 school (albeit a very good one) and got their rears handed to them by 'Cuse.

Yep, sounds about right for what I've seen from HU lax under ST. Not what I'm expecting to see this year considering most lax folks on here have touted this yrs team - don't want to hear how great 'Cuse is, they're great every year. When is HU going to be?

If this is the best HU has been in years then they're certainly expected to at least give the top teams a game...I know it's just a scrimmage, but 18-8 is embarrassing for a ranked supposed strong HU squad. This kind of stuff is way past 'old' now - would say disappointed, but this has been the norm unfortunately.

Hope they put together much better performances the next 2.

I wouldn't put too much stock in preseason scrimmages, Polito. We don't know who played and who didn't, what new players the coaches were trying out at different positions, etc. Preseason #1 Denver lost to preseason #5 JHU 14-8 this weekend. What do you make of that?

I understand you're frustrated by Hofstra's underperformance. Let's enjoy the regular season and see where we are in May (and I wish May was already here -- brrrrr).

It's supposed to be bitterly cold. Maybe they'll scrimmage in the dome.

That would be ideal but bubble isn't big enough unfortunately for a regulation size field.

I see Marquette is building an indoor facility to be used by lacrosse and soccer teams. I wonder if we could ever build something like that to replace the bubble? Would certainly do wonders for recruiting.

The average price tag on that project like that is between $25 and $100 million. If Hofstra spends $25 million on an indoor facility for lacrosse and soccer, I would be pissed.

We don't need an indoor stadium. The bubble is more than adequate for team practices.

Hey fair point, scrimmages are to be taken with a grain of salt - although the diff is that those other elite programs have FF appearances or nat champs to point to - we know HUs standing in that dept...

The program is on a very short to non-existent leash with me - NO passes whatsoever - not interested in any explanation of any under performing - just show the money now.

http://laxmagazine.com/tv looks like the only road game on TV will be the game at Princeton. I'd imagine they'll be streaming all the home games, like they do with basketball.

According to this interview, Llinares didn't participate in any of the scrimmages and Clarke, our starting face-off specialist, played hurt. Not excuses, just factors affecting the outcomes:
