Anyone else stuck watching on Flo? Audio is a good 5-10 seconds behind the video. Checked multiple devices. So annoying.
At least Cruz is awesome
The highlights audio is also very choppy:

Nice article in Newsday, written by a Quinnipiac alum. I guess that’s the secret to getting coverage in our local newspaper.

Through the tears, "I never should have left."-TP
Was gut wrenching. Lots of regret there, and fondness for his work home for 16 years. Very heart felt. I think he probably won over a lot who may have been on the fence regarding his legacy here.

It was so moving and sincere I had to go back and watch it again and his insight on the current state of mens basketball and retaining players. Just very sobering.

Have nothing but respect for Tom Pecora
In hindsight, he can say he should've never left
But the reality was there was no guarantee of what the landscape of Hofstra athletics would be like if the president Rabinowitz cut football
He knew about the cut in football before a football coach knew
Kamal Roy, one of our assistance was down in Florida recruiting when he got the call to come up and wasn't told until the next day that football was cut
I guess he figured if they cut football what would be the state of Hofstra basketball under Rabinowitz?
He received a healthy raise to take over Fordham program
It was almost a no-brainer for him
I don't blame him for the move whatsoever

Also, if you look at his body of work here at Hofstra
He should be nominated to be in the Hofstra Hall of Fame

Agreed JoJo, we should send him a nice note...I will. We also had a whole bunch of game pix Newsday published.

Lucky to be tied at the half. Embarrassing effort from the entire team besides Cruz
If Zimmerman was playing for Quinnipiac we'd be getting blown out
Embarrassing???? Come on! It was a tough hard fought game all around...we did fall in love with the three miday in the first half but that happens.
We played a good team tough, outrebounding them significantly too.

My first chance to get to a game and see this team in person. Ditto on the TP comments here, thought HU did a nice job honoring him pre-game, classy. Absolutely appreciate TP's time at HU - he had some super guards, ran a winning and exciting program, and made the transition from Jay and the jump to the CAA about as smooth as you could hope for.
Had a great time at the game, and great to see some folks on here. Arena looks fantastic, and it was a pretty decent crowd considering the time of year. Felt like HU was a run away all game from blowing the doors off. Could've - should've. But never got there as it seemed like it just wasn't our cleanest day of basketball.
Lots of TO's on errant passes from Cruz and Edmead - that's gonna hurt and it did. Add in half a game of terrible shooting and bigs that couldn't hold on to the ball and forgot to box out too many times, and it was a tightrope game. Thought the shots were open overall, only a few forces, did well creating space and taking what QU gave. Bad passes weren't 'bad' per say, just ill timed it seemed. And QU is a tough mid major, this is a solid W.
You can see the potential in this team - still think they are settling in with each other, so I don't think we've seen their best yet. They are skilled, balanced, hungry, and play hard. We've got size, a tad bit of depth, we've got some shooters, guards that can attack the basket, and a stud that looks to be taking the leadership role to heart. That is the makings of a winner. A ways to go, but I saw a team that could take the CAA if they continue on the improvement path.
Fan of Biggie's game - hope he continues to settle in here, he's a nice X-factor type to me. Didn't see much of Roberts, seemed a bit frustrated, perhaps a little blip there behind the scenes. Was hoping to see him light it up, but never really got minutes. Edmead is gonna be super, just needs time to iron out mental mistakes. Cruz is unstoppable when he wants to be. Victory has great wingspan, and love to have a shot blocker again, just needs to clean up his game. And German hasn't been my fav player over the years, but must acknowledge he is flourishing in the right role - he came across as the 'stabilizer' to me yesterday - steady, calm, and ready to step up when needed. He may be the glue for this team now, and they will continue to need his maturity.
Finally, the in-game coaching from Speedy and Co. seemed better to me yesterday - thank the Lord. Big missing piece. If he and his staff are finally growing in that sense, that can make a huge difference. Super OOC from this squad, better than anyone could've imagined, we all should be thrilled. Now it's time to get to what really counts - on to the CAA slate!

Does anyone else get nervous/worried every time Preston and Cruz send up one of those lollipop balloon passes to each other at the top of the key?? Was that a strategy/pass just to be used against QP? Looks like an easy pass for defense to time and then pick off. In addition, its such a lofted pass, the defender has time to move up right onto the receiver by the time he gets the pass.
Other than Cruz, the rest of the guys were a little sloppy in the first half. Too many turnovers from Preston (I realize he's only a freshman) - I assume he will keep improving. He played a much better second half.
Agree with Wags - German needs to get more shot attempts. Not a huge increase, but at least a couple per half!

Cards, Quinnipiac was sitting back in that 1-3-1 zone...that is how Hofstra attacked it. If Quinnipiac came out of the zone Cruz and Edmead were free to attack. I think Quinnipiac only intercepted one of those passes for a fast break dunk on the other end.

Last year's OT loss at Quinnipiac: 51-29, Bobcats including 23-3 on the offensive glass.
Yesterday: 51-34, Hofstra including 21-11 on the offensive glass.
An example of how the changed roster, especially with the addition of Onuetu up front should pay dividends on the glass that may help them win the types of close CAA games that they allowed to get away last year.

Yesterday was the first time we had two players attempt at least 20 field goals since Antoine Agudio and Charles Jenkins in an 81-63 win at Iona on February 23, 2008 that was a BracketBuster. Agudio, Jenkins, and everybody else combined attempted 20 field goals. That was 568 games ago.

Im sorry when only 1 of the 5 starters makes a field goal for an entire half and you have more turnovers than assists in a home game what would you call it? And they gave up a million open 3s in the 1st half, Quinnipiac couldnt take advantage because they were missing their best player.
2nd half was a completely different story, Hofstra took care of business. And the 2nd half adjustments continue to be one of the most encouraging signs about this team. And as I said after the game, the rebounding effort was outstanding, won them the game no question.
But im not gonna pretend like Hofstra played well yesterday, especially when you take into account that Quinnipiac was missing a kid who averaged 17 ppg. But good teams find ways to win even when they dont play their best, and thats what Hofstra did.
Im not down on them at all, still thrilled with non conference and super excited for what's to come. But they will need to execute at a higher level for 40 min if theyre gonna win the league, which is certainly now a legitimate goal

In his final year at Hofstra, Pecora had Charles Jenkins, Chaz Williams and Halil Kanacevic coming back the following year, a core of what could have been one of the best Hofstra teams ever. Jenkins stayed but new coach Mo Cassara lost Williams and Kanacevic and also a strong Hofstra recruiting class that Pecora stole for Fordham. Until yesterday, I was no great fan of Pecora. His honesty was refreshing.

Kanacevic became a terrific, thousand point scorer for St Joe’s of Philly and Williams became one of the best guards in the nation for UMass.

In the 2nd half I agree with you. But 6 of the 8 players didnt show up for half the game. But fine maybe embarrassed was too strong.
To Mark19th's point above, I've been following the team since Speedy was a player. The 3 biggest what if's in that time for me:
3. What if Hofstra got the at large bid over George Mason
2. What if COVID didnt cancel the NCAA Tourney in 2020 and we got to play
1. What if Chaz and Kanacevic had stayed? Totally agree those two with Jenkins could very well have turned out to have been the best team we ever had
