One thing I noticed…Plotnikov too slow on defense…tends to lose his man, leading to open threes. That needs to change.

Just an FYI that Ken Pom has rated UCF as #73 while we are rated # 146 just to put things into perspective. UNCW 121,Charleston 133 and Towson 134 so if you place any value in Ken Pom we played a team with a far better rating then any team in the CAA EVEN for 40 minutes on the road. A good showing so far for us.

https://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/202 ... orida.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Central Florida." Showing how much Central Florida moved up in conferences, Jerry points out that Central Florida was in the Trans-America Athletic Conference, which changed to the Atlantic Sun in 2001. With the conference name change and making the NCAA Tournament in their last two years in a conference, they were similar nto us. They made the 2004 and 2005 NCAA Tournaments, and then went from the Atlantic Sun to Conference USA. After eight seasons there and ten seasons in the American Athletic, they got to the Big 12. Showing how weak the Atlantic Sun was, in 2004-2005 their strength of schedule according to College Basketball at Sports-Reference ranked 296th of 326 teams, excluding four Independents that joined Division I that season that it does not have strength of schedule for.

he anticipates help too early, ends up guarding open space. can lead to more steals because he's cheating but like you said he loses his man which leads to open shots and disrupts the balance on d
he got better at this last season as it progressed but shouldn't still be seeing it in what feels like his 10th season on the team

Meanwhile he was credited with 3 steals I believe.

Concerned about Biggie Patterson and this initial performance. By all reports, this was a talented kid we grabbed who we presumably had to pay a decent amount of NIL to come be a real contributor here. While I give Speedy and staff a lot of credit on how well prepared the team was for UCF, Biggie stood out as an outlier and seemed lost and forcing it.
I'm extra concerned because it seems like we really have something with this group, but we're a consistent scorer or two away... we really need Biggie to fill that role, and not with low percentage mid range fadeaway 3's...
Overall, really encouraging opener. Power to the staff on bringing in some real talent and excited to see how much Victory and Preston can grow this year.

I don't think you can come to any meaningful conclusions after one game where the kid only played 12 minutes had 3 points on 1-4 shooting but also had 4 rebounds in 12 minutes! What we probably should be more concerned about was the technical foul and how he kept jawing with the ref. I don't know how we picked up the two technicals but certainly not good in a close game. On court demeanor is something I'm worried about. We don't need kids that are insubordinate to the coaches etc.

Pittsburgh at UCF on ESPN2, at 7 pm tonight.
Can get a look at how Pitt (which hosts Hofstra on 12/7) fares at the same place Hofstra played its season opener.

Pitt lost that one, 77-67, and today, our old friend Pecora and Quinnipiac won at Pittsburgh, 83-75.

Pitt women, with a 99.9% pregame chance to win, recently lost to D-III Scranton.

That's a solid win for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac has a very tall roster, which includes 6-7 Amarri Monroe, the reigning MAAC Player of the Year, who had 25 points vs. Pitt:

Monroe was ironically prepared to go to Pitt and then decided on Quinnipiac instead. So, he was probably extra motivated to lead the Bobcats yesterday.
Now Hofstra HAS to win on Dec. 7. Can't see Pecora win there and not Speedy and Hofstra.

Pecora seems to put together respectable clubs at QU - nothing earth-shattering, but they can catch you if you're not ready. He is going to be extra motivated for this game - I sure hope Speedy is too - gotta defend home turf, esp when it's personal.
UCF is a decent squad as was mentioned before the game - they won't light the world on fire this year, but they certainly are formidable - this was a good showing from HU for sure. The inconsistency is the hurdle right now, team has to continue to find itself and gel together.
I haven't been a huge fan of German's game - I've said before, he's just not a starter level IMO - he's helpful off the bench, which is totally fine - he does add some value at times, he's just wildly inconsistent and can be equally a detriment or a boost. I've wanted HU to recruit over him at the wing spot for some time now - one of the reasons I'm very excited for Jahda. That's the kind of skill set I'm looking for there... presuming it translates for him.

To save face, Hofstra has to win at Pitt on 12/7 now AND against Quinnipiac on 12/21.

Part I accomplished. Matched what Pecora and Quinnipiac did two weeks ago, Makes two weeks from today for ALL the bragging rights.

UCF just knocked off Kansas and only has one loss. This is turning out to be a pretty good resume booster for us.

Yes and Kansas is 18 in the NET while UCF is 32 one slot ahead of St John's who's 33. They also beat Towson by 35. IDK how important a 4 point loss is to the powers that be though but we know we could have won that game and that would have been huge right now in retrospect!
