BOOM!!!!
Was hoping for this one this weekend, visited Friday, fantastic news, fantastic get!! Recruited him originally, but had a TON of quality offers - committed to Santa Clara first, then a coaching change lead to Rhody - offers included: Rutgers, VCU, Dayton, SLU, Fordham, Miss St, USF, UMass, Iona, couple of CAA schools, even had a UConn offer before a change in direction with their staff.
Will give us 3 years - big body combo guard at 6'4, out of St Raymonds, killer from 3, attacks the basket, will bring a very strong skill set, and hopefully some SWAGGER, just needs the minutes, environment, style, and freedom to fill it up (aka Coburn) - 2/3 all day, and will light up the scoreboard.
D of course is going to be the question, but he's got the size HU desperately needs. This one is in addition to a few others in play, so this is VERY welcome add!
Come on home Omar, and let's get busy!!

Very nice get, seems like a guy who can shoot and finish at the rim. Good start with Kante for two years down the road.

Looks like a great addition.
We shouldn’t read anything into the fact that he’s wearing Staff’s number right?

Was thinking the same thing. But 15 was Omar’s number at URI. So that’s probably why it was used by whoever made that graphic.

Does anyone know why Omar did not play more as a freshman at Rhode Island ??

Maybe ST is changing numbers (hopefully not teams) - he wore 24 in HS (from pix) - maybe that is were it is going.

They did have a coaching change - Hurley was there and I assume he was recruited by the Hurley staff.

I like this recruit but as Gary said who is stepping out on the court this year?? Silverio apparently the heir to the throne for Pemberton. Here's his bio from H.S.
Played four years of basketball at St. Raymond's
Led St. Raymond's to the Catholic High Schools Athletic Association quarterfinals in 2017-18
Three-time All-Catholic High School Athletic Association selection
Considered a three-star recruit
Averaged 21 points, 3.5 assists, 6 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game as a senior
Finished his career as a 1,000-point scorer for St. Raymond's
Was a three-time All-League and All-Tournament selection
Originally signed a national letter of intent with Santa Clara
Also had offers from Dayton, Massachusetts, Fordham, VCU, Saint Louis, Iona and Rutgers
Played AAU ball with New Heights, the same program that produced former Rhode Island player Hassan Martin
Helped New Heights reach the Under Armour Finals in Atlanta last July

Believe me, this staff knows exactly what they're doing. When you have a chance to land a kid like this you go for it.
Still see us bringing in three more; a PG, a big and another three.

Other than the few on this board who have somewhat of the "inside scoop", the staff continues to surprise with quality commits that come out of the woodwork! In general, gotta be happy with the recruiting JM, Speedy, and staff have done. Still need some help for the 2019-2020 team, but confident the holes will be filled and needs met.

The dream would be another year of Taylor but that seems slim.

If there is one thing we can agree on it is this staff recruiting - and especially on the transfer wire - and they know what they are heck doing.
As far as Taylor - I am Taylor fan Numero Uno - but I cant see it happening. BUT there are other Taylors out there; not say we are going to land the next one but we are going to work to find someone hopefully like him.
This staff has its best selling resume in presenting to a recruit - again, especially a transfer:
1) coming off this the season we had and the press we got
2) we can tell an incoming transfer - certainly an immediately eligible one - you are going to play (Upshaw, Neismith, Koon, Taylor and Dwyer) and probably have your best stat year of your college career.
I like how our roster is shaping up

These next few weeks starting with Omar should be an exciting time for us Hofstra Hoops faithful...

On the transfer list is a 6ft10 240 center from Northwestern sounds like a Taylor clone without the injuries

I assume u r talking about Barret Benson who averaged 9 minutes a game for the 3 years he played at Northwestern and averaged 2 points a game. Like you said he wasn't injured so do you think this is the best we can do with a lot of grad students out there?
