I have to agree about HH.
I had always hoped he would develop into a contributor (a 6'9" guy who could shoot the 3 and rebound). It just never happened. He never built up his body/strength, and I guess never really had the foundational talent to build on.

If there is a scholly opening up, Javarzia Belton is still uncommitted...I have no inside info about this, I am just watching.

From the same high school as Burgess. Seems like it would be a solid get as he has some power 5 offers.

A lot of us believe that HH is a D-2 player and thus has no place on this team. Initially we all believed we had a player that would play beyond the ARC and be able to provide us with some scoring but they tried to turn him into a post player. This had to do with necessity at that position but also probably because HH doesn't shoot that well to help us beyond the arc. Kante is getting almost 30 minutes not leaving much for anyone else in the post and when you really look at the position you have Schutte playing almost 8 minutes and filling in nicely there. He's a good rebounder can block shots, passes if only he could finish better around the rim. So if Joe and company could find a Dan Dwyer out there but where would his minutes come from? Realistically if we had that extra scholarship what would we do with it??

I agree with you TripleC. The only way a grad transfer at the 5 would make sense would be if they are better or at least equal with Kante. But I will say I am always for getting best available talent when you start getting to the last couple of scholarships and if that ends up being another 5 then go for it; especially considering we have starters at each spot already.

Kante is going to be a star in our league...I have no problem bringing in a better big to back him up or maybe go with two bigs once in awhile but there is no one out there who is going to supplant Kante.

That was basically my point; that we won't find someone better than Kante. I do get your point that a better backup to play instead of Schutte could make sense but I would much rather get a freshman big to develop behind those two then get someone that will just bury Schutte on the bench. I don't think Joe will ever play 2 bigs; just not his style.

Most grad transfers are not choosing a place where they will sit on the bench. Would bench help be better than Schutte? Schutte can still improve.
A guy like Belton could spell Kante for some minutes as a frosh. Maybe this would allow some more aggressiveness from the 5 position with a bit less concern about foul trouble from the bigs (including Schutte). If Belton came and further developed, the 5 would be set for years to come.

A kid like Belton who appears to have a lot of offers per V/C I'm sure like most kids wants to come to a program and be guaranteed minutes. I don't think he wants to be playing behind someone and only be getting a few minutes. Maybe he's contemplating his decision very carefully as to what the best fit will be.

CB was going to start before landing Cowart - now Elmo starts no question, and CB backs up - agree with the 30 / 10 split or something along those lines. Cowart plays a ton of minutes though, so he may play more in conf once JM goes all in on starters. I like Burgess, highly qualified, and think he could use another year to really get his feet under him at this level. He's a talented kid.
Def agree another big is likely - Kante is the starter obviously, and will play 30ish - Schutte surprised by being decent enough to spell for 5-10. Would prefer more impact if we can get it. Regardless, another big is needed who's at a minimum more prepared for CAA/D1 than HH.
As JM said, runs like this past one have huge impact on recruiting, like many of us have said before. A quality big would still be interested here as Kante will be a JR. Some kids or their parents want to redshirt a year to help their career in the long run, esp if any ailment needs more time - one of the top reasons HU landed Cramer. We'll see what happens.

On the Newsday website, there is an interesting college recruiting article about how things are now so different for HU, SBU,and SJU during the Covid crisis. It mentioned the recent commit Elmo Cowart and reported that there is one remaining scholarship for next season. So, it must mean there is an additional player who will not return for 2020-21.

I think we got 2 transfer candidates which we all know who they are; I don't think I need to mention the names. I'd love to get Belton as a commit. It really would give us solid guys at each position as both upper and under classmen.

I read the Newsday article this morning and lets hope its not just another mistake being made by the writer. Newsday among others have been known to not double check their material. If in fact it's true does anyone around the program who could be privy to who's going and who might be coming in have info. or whether or not this is just a mistake. We should know shortly either way I imagine now that it has been printed if true!

To triplec2195, Good point about the possibility of a reporting error. I guess we will have to be patient, as you mentioned, to see what develops.

Thanks Shadow for being the devil's advocate with me always need to think outside the box a bit. Hopefully someone from HU proofread the article before it went to print? We are all waiting with great anticipation because we see the possibility of not only another team who'll be in contention this year but the building of our next exciting basketball team.

Newsday would never let the source/sources review their article...in the old days they would fact check, perhaps with the SID...although now the rush to get lots of content out supercedes all.

Newsday was a once great newspaper, now it can't even get game dates and times right let alone anything else.
