We're normally good at PG in terms of assists even if our PG doesn't shoot well. We had a player average at least 4 assists in nine consecutive seasons from 2008-2009 through 2016-2017. In 2017-2018, Buie got 3.3, JWF got 3.2, and Pemberton 3.2. Buie was over 5 last season and is so this season. I wonder if any other CAA team has had a player average at least 4 assists in at least 11 of the last 12 seasons including this one. I'll include teams who weren't in the CAA the whole time.

Perhaps I'll be the minority here, but I'm very wait and see on Masic. Plays against weak comp compared to the states, and the numbers are good but not 'wow'. And another so-called PG w/under 2 assists per game from what I can see?? Cannot stand that.

Hoosac is very new to the prep league, so there's next to no data or video on them or him playing at that level against top US competition. Until I see that, I will be cautious.

Positives are great size (love that HU is making clear efforts to get bigger in the backcourt), has played on a national team, and euro guards can be under the radar steals. Hope this is one.

Otherwise I'd feel better having Hutchins all day long, and I hope Speedy is still working that. We'll see.

PS Having 1-2 seldom used bench guys moving on could be very beneficial for both sides. Would open door to some other big needs and possibilities.

Polito I'm with you on this one...very curious signing off the radar...was anyone else recruiting this kid? Did we jump on him because nobody knew who he is? Can't find ANYTHING on him in the US and his school...let's hope he becomes the next Pusica but for now not quite sure what he will be.

So my reliable source told me we are still looking for a point guard.
Also that JM was the guy recruiting Masic. That's all I know.

Captain what did he tell u about possible transfers because unless there's something IDK we have exhausted our scholarships.

We all can speculate, but anybody who leaves will understandably remain confidential for now for their own privacy.

Just read where MIke Smith Columbia point guard will be a grad transfer next year. He has over 1600 points scored in his career with another year eligible.

I recently read an article that the Ivy League doesn't let graduates play, so anybody with an Ivy undergraduate degree with eligibility remaining that he (or she since I think it applies to all sports) wants to use must transfer. In 2015-2016 we had Denton Koon, who was a graduate transfer from Princeton.

This is obvious just making the point that we can't sign ANYBODY unless someone is leaving so there certainly could be something in the works here.

Anyone who is going to leave must enter the transfer portal...once they do that we can revoke a scholarship. Thus far no Hofstra player has entered the transfer portal and I would not expect anyone to enter the portal until after our season concludes.

This makes perfect sense so what is your gut feeling?

i really hate speculating about who will transfer since these are essentially kids with potential transfer reasons beyond basketball. But I think there is maybe 3 potential players that would transfer and I think everyone can come to the same conclusions.

I like the 31 points he dropped on Delaware a year ago and for sure he has nice numbers including 5 assists a game. Another kid who's in the transfer portal is Brendan Barry of Dartmouth a 6'2" PG who averaged 13.2 points a game and is from Jersey. Things could get interesting Denton Koon deja-vu at a different position!!

https://247sports.com/Article/Ashley-Ja ... 144544988/ says Ashley James was accidentally shot and died. He had offers from teams including us, and was planning on going to Missouri State. Was he discussed in this topic?

Horrible, so sad - Godspeed to him and prayers to all related.

Not familiar with him, but sheez... we need to shape up worldwide.

On recruiting, I would absolutely love to see what this staff could do and what type of talent might be attracted to this program with an NCAA appearance under his belt… A Cinderella run even more so!

How ironic would it be if the year we make the NCAA tournament is the year we actually signed most (or all) of our recruits before the season even ended.

Ha! So true, didn't even think about that

Also, thanks for the insight Captain, "Also that JM was the guy recruiting Masic." No offense to Joe, but he's prob the coach I have the least confidence in when it comes to recruiting our guards (oddly enough since he was one lol). I'm thinking he may be a bench get, which is perfectly fine, but in that case I still think HU should, and might, be pursuing a standout point to add to the fold, and would prefer Speedy is the one who leads the way.

Make the dance, and let's land some studs. And I would like to see a spot or two open up on the current roster to do so.

I think the boss probably knows a guard when he sees one.
A couple of years ago he recruited a Philly guy. White kid with some video for us to see. Some of our fan feedback knocked the kid and maybe suggested he was walk on stuff. He now mans the point for Villanova. Maybe he sees Masic as a diamond in the rough but I trust JM's instincts when it comes to guards...see Juanya Ameen and Antoine Mason from his Niagara days. I don't think he settles when he's making his offers. At least I hope so.
